Summary: Barbara Sher does it again. Bravo!
Review: I read earlier books by Barbara Sher and they helped me to find my career path. I recently gave "I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was" to my son and it had a tremendous impact on him. He figured out what he wants to do with his life and is focused and on his way. I also recommend "Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self" to learn how to make the most of every moment, every feeling, every situation and your life. With top-notch books like these, you will be your best and never settle for second best unnecessarily again.

Summary: You only know when you start doing it!
Review: Ms. Sher did a really great job in showing that I am not the only person who does not really know what I really wants in my life, which directions I should go, and what really I am interested. The book has shown many great examples of people who have the same problems as myself. After reading this book, I started my own small business that I love without giving up my current jobs!! Of course, my life is getting better. Overall, I believe this is a great book for people who do not know what they are really interested in. If you are not satisfy with your current life, I strongly recommend you to read this book. Your life will change if and only if you start doing doing and accomplish something!!

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I just finished reading this book, and it is simply amazing. Very wide in scope and insightful. I Kept thinking while reading "How does she know all this?" Apparently, she wrote this book from great experience and clear vision. I'd recommend it to anybody. I even bought another copy for a relative of mine to read and benefit from (his motto is "Nothing Ever Interests Me," so I thought Chapter 12 in particular would be useful to him). Every chapter deals with a specific obstacle or hurdle that stands between you and doing what you want and then offers you how to solve your particular problem. Again, great book.

Summary: I am on my way
Review: If I could do anything I would win the lottery. That probably will not happen so I will use this book instead. With today's job market Ms. Sher's ideas of finding what interests you instead of following a "career" is good advice. I have found it neccessary to switch my career path recently and it was not my choice. This book and Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life have both given me ideas I never considered.

Summary: Should be called, What is Really Stopping You
Review: This book is nicely written, full of helpful and insightful exercises. It focuses on resistance, why you are not getting anywhere or why you can't stick with things or why you are unsatisfied. There is a scenario for everyone, from the seemingly successful individual to the average person.

The author is very loving and caring. She makes it very safe for us to "explore" what we really want, but mostly how come we don't have it yet, even if we don't really know what it is. I have been able to discover the underlying resistances (and yes, I have quite a few!) that have been plaguing my life, preventing me from living to my full potential, and to understand the motivation/behavior behind my major life decisions.

By understanding how I behave, it will be a lot easier to stick with the things I discovered I liked. However, even though I now have a very good understanding of how my patterns of resistance work, I am still unclear about what I want to do exactly. Lots of items on my list, but somehow, couldn't make them come together under one major theme.

No, Aha! for me yet when it comes to finding true meaningful work or a new and exciting career. But at least now, I have elements to point me in the right direction and mostly when I do find my niche, chances are excellent that I will not sabotage myself. That alone is well worth the price of this book!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I really wanted to read this book as it had gotten some good reviews and the chapter outline 'spoke to me'. However, once I started it, I was very disappointed for 2 main reasons. Firstly, my philosphy differs with the author and it made reading some sections difficult. So for example when I saw something like 'I believe in planning but the truth is that most planning is science fiction' or the constant reference to 'luck', I was turned off. However, if these ideas appeal to you, then this book will be a godsend. Secondly, the book seemed to be geared to people who had never done anything with their life or experienced the world and were cloistered at home or at work. If that's you, then read the book. On the other hand, if you have travelled, had some adventures or done anything else above the 'norm' or in control, it may be difficult to relate to the book with its extreme hand-holding, which was gnawing after a short while.

I like the book's concept and chapter outline, and I think it's aimed at persons who aren't used to taking any control for themselves. And I'm sure they need a good guide. But if you're having a career change crisis and you're used to exercising control or planning your way, but still need some help, then look some place else for a book to assist you.

Summary: To Know Or Not To Know
Review: There are many books about how to know what you want or how to find your purpose but this one offers a workbook format that asks questions and then gives solid examples and information in each of the topic areas. Whether you tend toward technical career, artistic careers or anywhere in between, this book serves as a gentle guide through the difficult decisions you have to make when you want more than just a job.

You journey through this book feeling good about the process instead of feeling like you are entering mission impossible. There is something for everyone in this well thought out guide to one of our most difficult questions....what do I really want? If you are seeking answers and meaning that come from within, then I Could Do Anything is definitely for you. This book is even helpful for readers who have tried many different paths and still find themselves seeking something more. Other workbooks left me feeling more overwhelmed than when I started but this book pointed me toward greater fufillment.

I liked this book so much I included it in the suggested reading list in my book, Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life

Summary: I found myself in this book...
Review: What a marvelous book! I purchased this book to help my husband discover himself and ended up finding myself. My only disappointment with this book was to find that just as I was becoming engrossed in self discovery in one chapter the subject would change and leave me starving for more. This process continued over and over throughout the book. A fast page turner and easy to read. Thank you for this book.

Summary: NOT as helpful as 'The Pathfinder' (by N. Lore)
Review: Overall, this book gave a series of pep-talks with some good illustrations of situations people can find themselves in. However, this book may not cover the type of situation you are facing, you may not find the illustrations very relevant, or you may not trust the off-the-top-of-head reasoning the author uses.

I read this book for perspective on my job & career search, and did not find it to be much help. 'The Pathfinder' by Nicholas Lore is superior because it gives methods and approaches to assess your situation yourself, and more fully covers the many aspects of evaluating career options. The techniques presented by Lore may even be applicable for personal investigations outside the realm of career exploration.

Summary: Tools to help yourself
Review: The book helps one to explore themselves and the exercises are practical and useful. Although I have not found what I want to do, I believe it is a step in the right direction.
