Rating: Summary: hype Review: This book only contains made-up nonsense. Hathcock was a superb shot and should have left it at that. There is not one shred of valid evidence to back any of these "kills." The Sea Tiger rag is not a valid source but that's where the sea story begain.
Rating: Summary: One of the classics Review: After only a few months in the Marine Corps., I'd heard stories of the legendary Gunny Hathcock, and I picked up a copy of the book at the PX while in the School of Infantry.10 Years later I finished my third reading, and can't see where all of the bad reviews here are coming from. Reviewers who are claiming that the author couldn't have known what the enemy was thinking obviously skipped past the Preface, others are acting like Hathcock wrote the book himself and are bashing small details. Another claims the book is a farce because all of the literature he's "read" on sniping says that they always operate in teams; he must have gotten a copy with the pages missing that depicted Hathcock getting restricted for operating alone. This is a great book depicting the life of a Marine Corps. legend, don't go into it with the thought that Steven Spielberg invented the sniper scene in "Pvt Ryan", and you'll be okay. :)
Rating: Summary: made for hollywood Review: Sorry folks, I thought his story was nonsense, something out of Hollywood. I patrolled many of the areas he supposedly had work, and I found his account filled with inaccuracies.
Rating: Summary: Buy It Now Review: After seeing one of my friends reading this book and he telling me some of the plot, I knew I had to buy it. One of the best book buying descisions I've ever made. The true story of a sniper in Vietnam and his many adventures. This book did one thing almost nothing does these days: it shocked me. The part where the Vietnamese woman tortured the American Marine was just sick and you wanna go out and kill her yourself. The ending was sad and very unfortunate, and could have been avoided. Overall a good book and well worth your time and money.
Rating: Summary: Give Me a Break Review: Sorry fellows, I just don't believe a lot of what I read.
Rating: Summary: Intresting Book, Well Written Review: This book was pretty well presented. The copy I had was published with afew small typos, but it is easy to look past when dealing with such a great story. This was the first book in a while that held my attention. I HIGHLY suggest people to read.
Rating: Summary: A Legendary Sniper Review: Marine Sniper is by far one of the best military books available. Carlos Hathcock is truly an inspiration in this brutally intense and deeply motivating work. Patience and discipline form a deadly combination with the skill and marksmanship of snipers like Hathcock. Marine Sniper is a must read for any person either in the Marine Corps or considering it.
Rating: Summary: Great Story, Well Told Review: This book is well written and interesting. While the detractors say that the book is not historically accurate it was a fact that while in garrison the snipers would support the infantry. This book is very good, it was well written and very interesting, he does have 93 CONFIRMED kills and the book is historically accurate.
Rating: Summary: Marine Sniper: 93 Confimed Kills Review: This is one of the best books that I have read.. Charles Hathcock was one of the best snipers' that the Marines' had to offer.. I am sad to say that Charles Hathcock has passed away but may his legacy live on in our hearts and minds.. This book will explain it all.. He fought bravely for this country and his skills will never be matched... This book represents the Corps and its value not only during vietnam but in the present day... Marine Sniper is an excellent book and shows our history and the men who served with honor... SEMPER FI GUNNY HATHCOCK..... YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED
Rating: Summary: BEST OF THE SNIPER BOOKS Review: This one is hard to put down. Very realistic account of the stealth, patience, determination and marksmanship that it takes to be a Marine sniper. Lots of details on his various long range kills. Makes you feel like you are lying there in the shadows with him. I particularly liked the sniper-countersniper and stalking the NVA general chapters. Interesting was the difference in the attitudes of his fellow Marines from his first tour in Nam and his second. Hathcock was a real patriot and an excellent shot. Good book.
