Summary: Zlata's Diary
Review: Zlata's Diary is written by Zlata Filipovic. It is a compelling story of how her world was torn apart by hatred during 1991-1993 in Sarajevo. It tells about the horrors of war like having no electricity, no water, and deaths. She saw her friends being taken away and sometimes killed. This black haired, brown eyed girl's diary tells a sad but true story of bombs being dropped and cities being blown up. She was pretty close to her family and it hurt her to see her family get hurt. Before all this Zlata Filipovic was just a regular girl with a family and a cat. She played piano and enjoyed life. She was just starting fifth grade. What I learned from reading this story is that there is more to war than fighting. Ordinary people that have to live through war don't want to see their world be destroyed by armies. I think this story was sad and it is well written. It made me think about of how much I apprecieate my family. I would recommend this to a teenager who likes to read diaries or who wants to learn about life in wars.

Summary: Touching story, author questionable?
Review: Zlata's diary was a touching, although questionable account of a horrific time. I recommend this book to others, even though at times it gets repetitive. Some of Zlata's insights are a little too advanced for her tender age which is what makes me question the authenticity. Along with reading the book I feel a person should also look into reports of the book being re-written in a slanted light to shed sympathy on certain sides. Not quite Anne Frank but Zlata indeed suffered a great amount and the innocence of her childhood was certainly affected by the tragic events of the Bosnian civil war.

Summary: Gave an accurate review of the effects of war on youth.
Review: Zlata's Diary was an interesting "journal". The perspective on war, provided by Zlata gave a chilling glimpse of reality. Many things that are often taken for granted were assigned great value by Zlata. Her perspectives gave family life and friends new importance. Zlata seems to be older than her eleven years and her writting suggests an older soul. Altough, it seemned as though she didn't endure any personal changes, her world of bliss was changed forever.

Summary: Easy read, but not very interesting.
Review: Zlata's Diary was obviously written by a fifth grader. The vocabulary (may have been changed a little bit by translation) is a little above a fifth grade level, but the sentance structure is the same. In the middle of the book she finds out her diary is going to be published. I think this impacted her writing, because after that she started talking just about the war, not her feelings. If you are interested in the war, not how someone lived through the war, read this book. If you are looking for feelings and thoughts more, read Anne Frank.

Summary: I think Zlata's Diary was very sad at times yet boring.
Review: Zlata's Diary was very predictible. That is why it is so boring. She repeated the same things a lot. It was sad at times, but had a happy ending.

Summary: Zlata's Diary
Review: Zlata's Diary, by Zlata Filipovic is about a girl named Zlata Filipovic living in Sarajevo, Bosnia duringa brutal war in the 1990's. She gives her opinions on the war and she talks about her everyday life in the war. In the book she says she hates the war. I would have to agree with her on that. She also talks about her friends and family in the war and how they change. I would compare this book to a regular girls diary. It's in that kind of form. It would bejust like looking at a pre-teenage girl's diary. If you would look at a girls diary, they would look the same. I, myself would recommend this book to a girl who likes diaries or a person who likes to read about wars. I would recommend this book to those people because girls would like this kind of diary and it's about a horrible war in Sarajevo. The message this book sends to me is that "you shouldn't take for grandted what you have because one day you might not have it." Zlata was a nice person who gave her opinions on things. I think Zlata's Diary is a great book because I like diaries. I like reading about other people's opinions and I alsolike reading about wars. I think they're cool. I also like books to be in diary form. That's my favorite kind of book. That's the best to me. I really like a person like Zlata. I think they're real nice. This was a very good book. I hope other people will enjoy it too!!

Summary: Zlata's Diary
Review: Zlata's diary, it is written by Zlata Filipovic. It takes place in Sarajevo,Bosnia between 1991-1993. There was a war going on and Zlata is a victim. What she does to express her feelings is write them down in journal form. In my opinion I really enjoyed this book, it showed many interresting things and points about war. One point is that no child nor an adult should go through this rough time. In this time period it was so rough that they had no electricity, wayer or even gas for heat. Another point is that this book is really good because it has a happy endings. I like happy endings because they make you cheerful after all of the sad, mad and hurtful times, which Zlata's Diary did. This character is Zlata, she's very wise and thoughtful because she knows what to do when something goes wrong and when someone is hurt she trys to cheer them up. Zlata is also scared because when something happens that is really bad she crys or gets really careless, This is the main character and is my favorite. The theme of the book is a young girl writing down her thoughts about how she feels about this war and how it effects her. I would reccomend this book to any person age is 10 and up because it is a higher level book and contains alot of information. It would most likely be a girl because they would like to hear about rough times and they might even have a diary of their own. Last I hope you will try to consider this book to read.

Summary: Open your Eyes
Review: Zlata's Diary, written by Zlata Flipovic, is the story of Zlata's life in Sarajevo during the horrible war. It is a non-fiction autobiographical book that explores the tough life of a child who has had her childhood cruely taken away from her. She writes to her diary, which she named Mimmy, almost every day explaining the difficult and sad times during the war. At one point, Zlata reflects and asks why they have taken her childhood away from her. She wants to be taken back to "the shores of my childhood". The book was very memorable and impressionable because it is a first hand story of someone's life during a horrible war. Often we hear general news of things that occur in our world but usually it is not from the people who actually went through the trials and tribulations. This book really makes you realize that you are truly blessed, and that there are plenty of people fighting for things that we automatically take for granted. I can't imagine my childhood being taken away from me and having to deal with WAR at the tender age of eleven. This book opened my eyes to the reality around me and made me conscious to the fact that there are people in our world who need our help. It made me understand how fortunate I am and how thankful I should be for all the things God has given me. It is necessary that we realize what goes on in other parts of our world. Zlata's Diary is a touching account of what some young people must endure. It truly is a book one will remember and one that will leave a lasting impression.

Summary: Charlies review HA HA HA
Review: Zlatas diary was about a girls life in sarajevo bosnia during a political war in the early 1990s. She goes through many hardships through these years. People she knows get killed throughout the war. She is mostly living with no electricity and water most of the time so they had to use a wood stove. Sometimes they run out of food so they get food deliivered to them. She was rarely even alout out of their house because of all the shelling and fighting going on. This book i think teaches you to be thankful for what you own and do not waste. This book is very descriptive and sad, but I reccomend it to everyone. So overall this book is a very good and emotional book and you will remember what happened forever.
