Summary: This was a good book!
Review: "Zlata's Diary" by Zlata Filipovic was a good book! For Zlata, life in Sarajevo, Bosnia was good until the war started. When the war started, she began to write in her diary. She wrote from 1991- 1993. In some of the passages in her diary, she wrote of her family and friends, such as her mom, dad, her best friend Mirna, and of her pets CiCi, and Cicko. This book reminded me of the diary of Anne Frank. Both of the girls were about the same age, and both went through extreme hardships in war. This book taught me to count my blessings, and to appreciate being safe from war. It showed how a young girl delt with war life. Bad things things happened, like the death of many of her friends and family. There were good things that happened too, like how she had matured and, learned how to value the important things in life. I thought this book was good, although I would have liked to hear more about Zlata's feelings,and less about the war. All in all, I had a good time reading this book. I liked this book because I like reading diaries of girls. I thought it was interesting to see how a young girl coped with a war life. I would definitely recommend this book to any girl who likes to read diaries, although I think that anybody would enjoy this great book!

Summary: A bit disappointed!
Review: As this book was a diary of a girl which was written during wartime, I think it's boring for her to repeat and repeat the similar miserable comditions of no electricity, water and gas almost everyday.As well as the birthday partiessssss!!These would greatly decrease the extent of compactness.
After Zlata knew that her diary was going to be published, her style in writing changed,it became more and more emotional or even made me feel a bit of hypocritical.

Summary: Civil Rights are not always a right!
Review: For those of you who look at unfamiliar names of people and places and get frustrated before you can even get past the first few pages, this book is one that deserves your effort to continue reading. Although she is compared to Anne Frank, Zlata's Diary is much different. I think that Anne found freedom in her "prison" by writing in her diary. I think that Zlata uses her diary as a release from the emotional frustration she does not allow herself to show in front of her parents. There is also the motivation of writing for publishing. Early on, Zlata learns her diary will be published. There are times when that motivation comes through in her writing. Still, Zlata's experiences in the war torn city gives us a first hand impression of modern war and innocent victims of such. She is a very literate young lady who went from being "well off" to victim of war. Therefore, there is some common ground--rock stars, movie stars, etc

Summary: A tragic and very human tale of lost childhood in Sarajevo..
Review: I encountered Zlata's Diary in an adolescent psychology class in college. Her haunting words became the impetus behind my subsequent research in law school and other work relating to the wars in the former Yugoslav republics. I can vouch for the authenticity of Zlata Filopovic's account. Zlata's words portray a true picture of what life was like during the blockade of Sarajevo, and the feeble attempts by the international community to do something about it. This is appropriate reading material for high school students, as well as adults who simply want to understand the horrors of the Bosnian civil war. One note of caution, however; it is not an easy book to read.

Summary: Make the Best of Your Situation
Review: I feel that it is a great book but I disliked that it was a diary. It was worth reading because it shows many important lessons in life. For example, Zlata always made the best of her situation, like when it is someone's birthday they try to make it as special as they could by giving presents, cooking with wood burning stoves because there is no electricity, and try to forget about the war and enjoy themselves. It is also a good book because a young girls viewpoint of war was given, showing how the war actually affected her life and emotions. Just by reading this book and seeing how Zlata suffers illustrate how hard we should try to prevent war.

Summary: Zlata's Diary was an okay book.
Review: I had read the book once before and I thought it was great. Reading it twice spoiled my ilusion. It's really sad how a lot of her friends die and it's sad that Saravejo gets bombed. And bombed. And bombed again. But just writing about bombs and war doesnn't always make for great reading. And Zlata's Diary is proof of that.

Review: I READ THIS BOOK BECAUSE I AM ENGAGED TO A MAN FROM SARAJEVO, BOSNIA. I WANTED TO READ THIS BOOK TO GET A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT HE WENT THROUGH. READING THIS BOOK TORE MY HEART APART. HE LIVED THERE TROUGOUT THE ENTIRE WAR AND THIS BOOK HAS HELPED ME TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT HE HAD TO LIVE THROUGH. I HAVE ALSO WATCHED THE MOVIE "WELCOME TO SARAJEVO," I WATCHED IT WITH HIM, HE SAYS IT IS VERY ACCURATE. IT WAS A VERY SAD AND HEART WRENCHING MOVIE. MY QUESTION IS, WHY MUST WE FIGHT AND HAVE WAR...WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST LIVE AND TAKE LIFE FOR WHAT IT IS, NOT TRY TO CHANGE OTHERS BECAUCE THEY ARE DIFFERENT? THAT IS WAT MAKES THE WORLD SUCH AN INTERESTING PLACE.

Review: I t was a story which in many parts was very sad, for being an innocent child being destroyed for the rest of her life because of war, but the book was not that great because Zlata mainly repeated most things over and over. For being in journal form, it was all right.

Review: I think that the book Zlata's Diary is pretty cool. It reminds me of Anne Franks diary, but this one is better. I think that you should buy this book if you are interested in how hard it is to live during a war. It's about an eleven year old who has to survive during the war. It made me think of how hard it is to live through a war.
