Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: (...)First of all I have a point of disagreement about the whole concept of secret war. There is no secret war nor has there ever been a secret war. The war is open, continuous and has gone on for thousands of years. It is called anti-Semitism! It is supported by government propaganda, some schools, and even some religions. I just read the book "Genghis Khan" by Weatherford and posted a review at Amazon.com and in that book that describes things happening around mainly 1211 to 1350 AD. In that book the author notes that the Jews (amazingly) were blamed by the locals when the Khan family reached the Danube River. So it was happening then and they are still blamed and vilified. Any place where you have ignorant people you have Jews being blamed. To me it is that simple. Now for the main parts of the book itself. The premise of the book is interesting. There are many documents and similar that are classified so one really does not know all the historical fine details - of what has gone in the past. What really happened to the body of Hitler in Berlin (?) is one story that stands out in my mind. So the authors have taken this tact and have created a book - a heavy 514 page plus another 115 pages of notes - to dissect and look at past historical incidents relating to Jews, but mainly since 1920. They have used a lot of interviews with people in the intelligence services to get the inside story as Loftus does nightly on WABC. It is a story of greed, incompetence, and hatred of Jews or indifference. They outline many instances where the intelligence services have helped or hindered Israel and the Zionist movement. It is a fine work and a fine read. It is the type of book that will kill most of a weekend with great enjoyment. It contains many fascinating side stories and comments; it is 80-90% right (my guess) and it is entertaining. It is not a fabulous literary work but it is a solid 4, 4.5 stars. Recommend. Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking Revision of Modern Mideast History Review: FDR appointed Allen Dulles as Secretary of State to spy on him and eventually prosecute him for aiding the Nazis during WWII by extorting high oil prices from the US. Wall Street and Oil magnates helped Hitler build his industrial complex and then aided Germans in escaping with their assets to Latin America. Ben Gurion blackmailed Nelson Rockefeller into delivering the OAS states' votes in the UN to recognize Israel. Rockefeller agreed if the Israelis would not pursue Nazi War criminals in Latin America. Israel then blackmailed the Soviets into support in exchange for not revealing their secret agents to the British and US. The Israelis attacked the USS Liberty in 1967 not as a mistake, but on purpose because the ship was monitoring Israeli troop movements and sending them to Nasser. The CIA was caught in an act of War against Israel and agreed to the coverup. Nixon recruited known Nazi war criminals to help get the ethnic vote. George Bush Sr. dealt with a known Arab arms and drug dealer (and an unknown Russian spy) in a grossly illegal arms for hostage deal that in its course greatly armed Sadam Husseim and known PLO terrorists. If these tidbits sound so unbelievable that it sounds fictional then you understand the challenge of this book. There is solid evidence and circumstances that support much of these radical allegations, but with so many undisclosed sources ("old Spies") you also have to trust the authors more than the evidence. It is a fascinating read and much of it may well be true. At the very least it should be extremely thought provoking.
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: Filled with racist lies and slander, shows how evil some minds can be
Rating: Summary: This is a very strange book. Review: I believe almost everything in this book is true. I think the assumptions are correct, the assessments realistic and true. But, its impossible to accept at face value, because 100 pages of footnotes marked confidential do not a proof make. By the very nature of the subject, there is subterfuge and deception, secrecy and deceit. In the end, you have to believe a good part of this book without seeing all the footprints. And then, its scary as hell. The holy trinity of oil, prejudice and profits mean that this world won't change any time soon.
Rating: Summary: Although I have not read this book... Review: I can honestly say that for every argument a Zionist makes that claims the U.S. is secretly aiding the destruction of Israel, I can probably find a fundamentalist Muslim quote that claims just the opposite. So, what's the point? Let's look at the facts here: - America was one of the first countries to recognize Israel as a state - America still gives Israel a lot of money, in the sum of billions of dollars a year for foreign aid - America assisted Israel with technological progress and defensive capabilities Oh, and my dad, who was an officer in the Egyptian army at the time of the 1967 war, said that any claim the U.S. was aiding the Egyptians against Israel is ludicrous. In fact, the U.S. was displeased with Egypt because of Nasser's decision to get Soviet aid for the country. So, why do you have to dig deep to find facts that U.S. officials dislike Israel, when you can easily find facts proving otherwise that are clear as night and day? That's not to say that Israel isn't helping the U.S. as well, they're always helping research advanced technology for both militaries so it's a mutually benficial relationship. So although I have never read this book, I'm going to judge it by its cover. It's pure Zionist paranoia. Just for the record, I'm not racist, I'm not anti-semitic, I have a lot of Jewish friends. Although my Jewish friends are cool and would never start discussing crap like this as a serious issue. Peace, KT
Rating: Summary: Conspiracy theory Review: I don't know how much of this book is true...but, if even a fraction is then we are in touble. Not only the Jews but the whole fabric of our "democratic" society. I would recommend this book. But, take it with a grain of salt...
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: I must acknowledge the John Bachelor radio show on WABC - New York city - heard nighly at 10:00 pm week days. Bachelor features Loftus each night for 10 to 20 minutes.
First of all I have a point of disagreement about the whole concept of secret war. There is no secret war nor has there ever been a secret war. Now for the main parts of the book itself. The premise of the book is interesting. There are many documents and similar that are classified and stored in government classified vaults so one really does not know all the historical fine details - of what has gone in the past. What really happened to the body of Hitler in Berlin (?) is one story that stands out in my mind. Rating: Summary: shocking, with a reservation Review: I read this book over the winter break because the title was so interesting. The authors make several claims throughout the book and try to corroborate them. Even though a lot of information are from "confidential interviews" and thus leaves the reader with the choice to believe the authors or not, the book tends to verify most of its claims in a convincing fashion. There were some things that disappointed me though. I expected to read about the betrayal of Israel by the Western nations, but most of the book is devoted to description of events leading up to the betrayals. Also, most of the book is devoted to events that happened in the U.S. Even though the reader needs to know the backgrounds of the events and the authors drew their sources largely from American intelligence, the authors seem to spend relatively little time discussing the impact of Western policies on Israel. In addition, the authors take a long time before they get to their points they set out at the beginning of each chapter. Overall, I recommend this book, but suggest future readers to keep in mind of the points I made above.
Rating: Summary: Lofty Charges, lowly Scholarship Review: I was referred to this work by a friend who found it the most substantial and damning work of scholarship he had ever encountered. When he recounted the books charges to me, I had to find out why this material had not been given wider publicity. By the end of Chapter 1: Philby of Arabia, I knew why. First of all, we must acknowledge that over 1/3rd of the bibliography notes "Interviews with Confidential...". Now the authors, to their credit, acknowledge the weakness in their case that much of their information can not be sourced. So one must wonder, why did they bother to include these references in the bibiliography. They could have simply noted it in the body of the text. Furthermore, some of the biblio. notes of confidential sources are fleshed out with notes on the circumstances of the conversations, etc. Again, this material could have been included in the text. It looks conspicuously as if the authors are trying to beef up the work's credentials with empty footnotes. However, I do accept that any such work is going to have to include some degree of anonymous contributions. Now onto Chapter One. In Philby of Arabia, the authors try simultaneously to tell us that the British were among the first nations to employ anti-semitic policy in the middle east AND that Jack Philby, as an operative, was hell-bent on interfering with British policy to avenge their failure to promote his career. They go on to assert that Philby becomes the nexus of anti-semitic policy in the region. Now, if Philby is intent on thwarting British policy and the British were trying to undermine the Jewish people...wouldn't we logically conclude that Philby would work on BEHALF of the Jews??!?!!! The authors also note that the Arab nations had reason to feel betrayed for the British treatment of them. They note the British appointment of a partisan Zionist to a key position in their middle east delegation and say that was finally what caused Philby to resign his government position. Philby is quoted as writing something to the effect that he can not work under a person who is so biased against the Arabs in the conflict. I'm paraphrasing, but that was the general sentiment and the words were no more inflamatory. The authors immediately use that quote to then assert something silly like "Philby's hatred for the Jews was cemented". They had done NOTHING to even EVIDENCE his supposed animosity. There are other weaknesses here. The authors seem to toss about Philby's alleged homosexuality for no apparent reason, unless they were trying to evoke some latent prejudice against him. The simultaneously muse that he was lured to the religeon of Islam by the opportunity to use the Saudi king's harem! This first chapter is all over the map. It's really quite amusing. I don't know how the most avowed conspiracy theorist could read this tripe and not be saying..."Wait a minute here" due to the massive conjecture and contradictions. There's a weakly substantiated assertion that Philby "raped" his wife and other various attempts at character assasination. It's a common ploy of propagandists. You villify your opponent, make assertions that are unsupported and then use those assertions as the foundation for your next attack. This book is a house of cards.
Rating: Summary: A Good History of the Jewish Struggle! Review: I was very impressed with this book. The details are provided through documentation about the many roadblocks and hurdles the the Jewish state had to endure. It is well covered how the American State Department, the Eisenhower administration, the governments of France and England made efforts to stimy the Jews. There was also a note about the Vatican and their efforts against the Jews. I was also impressed with the chapter about Robert Maxwell the media baron and his role in getting weapons for the newly formed Israeli state. This was an unknown fact. This is a very readable book. You could teach a history lesson with it.
