Summary: Buy this book BEFORE you acquire your pup.
Review: Absolutely wonderful insight into the workings of our canine friends. My young Jack Russell Terrier agrees.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Even works on a Jack Russell Terrier!
Review: My wife and I bought a Jack Russell Terrier. The methods expressed by the monks have been very successful in working with our aggressive little dog! They place much importance towards the psychology of the dog, which has been helpful on a number of occassions as JRs are highly intelligent. The gentle touch methods have worked extremely well in our dog's training. He grows more responsive daily. The monks really know their stuff.

Summary: As close as you can get to being a k-9 Therapist
Review: The book does a wonderful job of contrasting the myths and truths of dog training.

Summary: Can a book have a profound effect on your life ? Yup...
Review: My wife and I never dreamed we could love a dog so much. This book was an extremely important part of getting to that point. We now firmly believe there are no such things as "bad dogs", just owners that think they know all they need to as owners (and thus blame the dog when something doesn't work).

But I also need to mention how useful the "Puppy Aptitude Test" was for us. We used it while looking for a puppy, and it was how Baker responded to our informal "quizzes" that brought us to the dog meant for us.

Buy the book AND follow through with its advice. ESPECIALLY, give your dog the time it deserves and needs, and you'll all reap enormous awards.

Summary: The best for new puppy owners
Review: This book is great for new puppy owners. There is tapes by New Skete Monks. Even though the Monks raise shepherds this book is good for all breeds. I raise guide dogs and refer to their book and tapes. I've been doing this volunteer service for 4 years and always learn something new when reading or viewing the tapes. I recommend this to all new puppy owners.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great for all puppy owners, also their tapes are marvelous

Review: If you want to turn your puppy into your best friend, use the techniques of the New Skete Monks. This book was very well writtent; it brought me laughter and tears while I read. It also provides much needed encouragement for the new puppy owner stressing the vital importance of consistency in the training process. A must for the first-time puppy owner!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Read this book BEFORE getting a dog.
Review: This book is invaluable. Not only will it teach you how raise your dog, but will also show you how to pick the right dog! That's right, how to pick a puppy that won't turn into some 4-legged-psycho.
