Rating: Summary: Catchy Review: I'm not a new knitter but I enjoyed the book. I'm one of those who knitted the scarf with the alien on it! lol Sometimes you just need something for fun. Mostly for beginning knitters and young people but there are some nice things. If you have kids or grandkids they'd probably love a sweater with a skull on it! Entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Clever copy but a waste of money Review: I thought this book would be great judging by the title but as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover. If I had been in a traditional store where I could look through it, I wouldn't have purchased it. It is more fluff than content using cleverly written copy, overly snappy layout, and all the knitting puns out there but it doesn't fill a void in the knitting book world. The projects aren't interesting, I was not inspired to make a single one and for several I nearly laughed out loud at how ridiculous they were, do people really need wrist warmers or a sweater with a skull on it? My advice: Don't bother with this book. If your a beginer knitter than the Vogue Knitting guide is the comprehensive tome that every knitter needs, and the Yarn Girls guide is full of quick and easy beginer projects to get you started. Happy Knitting
Rating: Summary: Clever copy, little use Review: I enjoyed reading this book but was dispappointed with its content for the most part. The copy is clever and witty but if you want humor try reading another book. The patterns were esoteric and I was not inspired to knit any of them, often I said to myself why would anyone want to knit that? I mean who wears wrist wraps and sweaters with skulls on them? There are lots of other books that have more information and better paterns and instructions.
Rating: Summary: TAKES THE BITCHING OUT OF STITCHING Review: This is the best knitting book I have ever had. I started knitting at 9 yrs. old and am now 73. I had not knitted for many years although I did make lots of crocheted items in the past years. All of a sudden I felt like knitting again and found I had forgotten some things. I bought this book and lo and behold.......I found EVERYTHING I needed. Older neighbor women taught me to knit and now I am an "older" woman myself. Wow where does time go? I'm finding peace and satisfaction in working the old needles again. Thanks for this woderful book.
Rating: Summary: Great for (k)newbie knitters Review: I have always been fascinated by knitting...a few twists of yarn resulting in something beautiful seemed too good to be true. However, I did nothing about my fascination until Debbie Stoller, editor of the fabulous magazine BUST, published her how-to. Ms. Stoller has a wicked sense of humor, making what can be frustrating fun. She provides explicit instruction and detailed illustrations, everything one needs to know to knit, including fun projects by other knitters.
Rating: Summary: Giving it to me easy! Review: Wow, I am a spanking new knitter and I am so pleased with what this book has helped to make clearer to me. I have taken several classes and the instructions in the book complement and enhance what I have learned. I have had many "a-ha moments" reading through - and I admit I love the hip and spunky way the language reads. I have read patterns in other books but find myself referring to this tome for simple explanations. A knitting book for the new generation of lifetime leisurists!
Rating: Summary: A little of this, a little of that Review: I attended a knitting convention in Oakland last weekend. Came home with too much wool, lots of ideas, and this dandy little sassy knitting book. There is the usual basis information, of course, but it's author Stoller's breezy discussions about the ancient art of knitting, its history, family photos - all sorts of stuff you're highly unlikely to find in any other knitting book. How to start your own knitting group, website information. Oddball projects, too: purses and backpacks. I knitted up a storm about 40 yrs ago when I was in college. Then I went cold turkey and didn't pick up a pair of knitting needles until about a year ago. So I don't know whether I'm a beginner or what - but whatever: I found this book helpful, engaging, just delightful.
Rating: Summary: Knitting for New Generation Review: this book has literally changed my life. i've been trying to get into knitting for about 4 years now and never really caught on. i bought "i can't believe i'm knitting" as well as "Knitting and Crochet for Dummies"... and i'd have to say you would be a true Dummy for not purchasing this book.the book explains EVERYTHING in easy phrasing and, hey, it's got a wicked sense of humor too. the patterns are fresh and exciting... and the diagrams are the best of any how-to-knit book i've seen. knitting is meditative, creative, and useful. it's even helped me cut down on smoking. when i'm watching TV with the needles in hand i don't have the desire to light up. i hope S n B II comes out someday... deb stoller is a revolutionary genius. this book doesn't disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Excellent knitting resource Review: This is one of my favourite knitting books. Why? + Great patterns, about 90% of the stuff is on my "to knit.." list + Full colour pictures of what final knitted item looks like for EVERY pattern + Nice design and layout + Simple to read + Very clariofy instructions and illustrions on how to learn new techniques + For all skill levels + Amusing commentary about knitting This book is fantastic. If you haven't already bought a copy I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: one of the best knitting books out there Review: I LOVE this book. My friend got it for me as a gift, and though I'd been knitting for about 3 months, I only knew how to make scarves using the knit stitch. Though the left-handed instructions are near-absent, the patterns are extremely cute, though some of the designs wouldn't appeal to older knitters, they certainly appeal to me and all of my friends (mostly 13-year-olds.). The instructions seem easy enough to follow, and I love the knit bikini (very 70's) and the cell phone cozy (Each of my friends is getting one as an Un-birthday present.) Though this book doesn't have the clearest instructions, I would definitely recommend this book to knitters with a bit of previous experience.
