Summary: Dude, where's my needles?
Review: This book will teach you how to knit and/or inspire you with fun knitting projects, all in an easy-to-enjoy and non-dorky tone. Sometimes knitting books (and even knitters themselves) don't seem very modern or hip. Deb shows her readers how to embrace this old-world craft with style in the 21st century. You won't be disappointed if you buy this book because it's packed with great reference/how-to material, as well as fun patterns you'll be itching to try ASAP. Enjoy!

Summary: HAPPY THAT I OWN THIS BOOK!!!
Review: This is the BEST of the Knitting books that I've read so far, plain english, witty, fun and uncomplicated, I have been knitting like a fiend ever since I recieved this book.

If you want to learn how to knit, how to determine a purl stitch from a knit stitch and so on, get this book. You will not be disappointed!

Summary: Great projects for a first time knitter
Review: I only own one other book on knitting, but I was convinced that I couldn't learn from a book. I mean if something titled "How to Knit in Plain English" was too much for me, then where could I turn? I swore I'd never pay money for another knitting text.

At some point I started hearing the talk about how great this book was for beginners. I found the price to be reasonable so I set out on a quest to find a copy. I had to go to 3 book stores before I found one who wasn't sold out. It was so worth the effort. Not only did I figure out how to cast on just by looking at the pictures in this book, I've also completed projects that don't suck! Go me!

Seriously though, I'd recommend this title to anyone who doesn't have the time to take classes. It has really simple instructions and the writing style isn't as boring as you'd expect from something that deals entirely with yarn. The projects are great too. I wouldn't wear most sweaters I've seen on patterns, but I can honestly say that I'd wear nearly everything shown in this book.

Summary: My daughters' favorite and mine
Review: This is the hippest and most entertaining knitting book that I have seen in a long time. The basic instructions in the first half are solid and easy to follow, and the patterns in the second half are hip and appealing. All techniques required for the patterns are covered by Stoller, as well as some personal history and historical info about knitting. The patterns appeal to the young girls in my life, ranging from 12 to 23 years old. The kitty hat is especially fine.

Summary: Fun and Easy!
Review: A fun read-great diagrams, cute sayings, fun patterns....I like this book because it brings knitting down to a level that I can understand. You start out with a simple project and then work your way through more complex projects. There are a variety of different patterns to do, and there are full-color pictures to check out what they will look like. Most of the patterns have a timeless feel...like they won't be the type of sweaters to go out of style anytime soon. Book is well laid-out, easy to read, and the drawings take you step-by-step through the stitching. I also like the way she gives an alternative for doing things...two ways to cast on, two ways to hold needles, and has you explore different types of needles and yarns.

I WOULD REALLY RECOMMEND THIS!

Summary: Strong enough for a man, but written for...EVERYONE!
Review: I don't have anything to compare it to, but this book is pretty cool. I put this book on my wish list for Christmas sort of as a tongue-in-cheek request after seeing it at Urban Outfitters and making some off handed comment about learning how to knit my own socks. Guess what - someone called my bluff. (For the record, I'm a man of the "has a girlfriend" variety.) Well, to play along, I went out to the fabric store and bought the reccommended materials for my first project: a bunch of rows, aka, a scarf. Whaddaya know, within about an hour and a half I had 6 mediocre rows and had learned not to panic when I bumped a loop off the needle before I'd done the knitting part to it :). I have to say I'm pretty proud. My new years resolution re: this book is to complete all the projects in it by 12/31/04. I'm sure my girlfriend will wear the stuff I make - at least in the house. (Quality control at this point, is lacking. :)

I really like the "history" that Ms. Stoller includes in the book, and her personal narratives are very sweet. The illustrations are surprisingly good and her technical descriptions are good enough for...well, good enough for a guy like me. I must say that after my trip to the fabric store to buy yarn and checking out the guides there, that this is definitley the coolest knitting book EVER (if not the best).

Summary: Fantastic self-teacher
Review: I've never felt so enthusiastic about recommending a book before. I've picked up knitting so easily with this work. In the two weeks since I received it, I've taught myself casting on, knitting, purling, garter stitch, stockinette, and ribbing. I've completed a scarf and made a couple of swatches, and I'm working on another scarf. I'm no expert yet, but I've been wonderfully surprised at how easily I've gained these skills. I think part of what's made it easy with this book is that the book is pretty hip. Stoller has an easy, fun style to read, and there are lots of pictures and cool patterns to drool over as you learn. Excellent.

Summary: New Knitter's Dream
Review: This is a great resource for first-time knitters! The patterns are fun and the instructions are carefully spelled out in easy-to-comprehend language (unlike the unintelligible knitter-speak of other books). I just completed my FIRST EVER knitting project with the help of this terrific book. I made the Alien Illusion scarf for a friend. I am completely thrilled with the results and can't wait to begin my next project-- this book has made me so confident, I'm planning to tackle the Skully sweater next!

Summary: Finally!
Review: Finally a COOL yet affordable knitting book! I love the title.
Lots of useful and FUN information. I particularly enjoyed reading Debbie Stoller's endearing family anecdotes, especially the one about her grandmother knitting an imaginary pair of socks on her deathbed. Knitting is almost better than chicken soup for the soul! Inspiring.
