Rating: Summary: One more flattering review Review: I love this book, and I love the title. The information is up to date and very comprehensive. The "conscientious" part is important to me, having had a few specimens die despite herculean efforts to create the optimum environment. The author clearly describes many species that just aren't appropriate for aquariums unless you are willing to jump through many substantial hoops... it's just cruel and dumb to try to keep some species of coral and/or fishes.

Rating: Summary: Saltwater Bible! Review: I really cannot say anything that hasn't been said before. This is by far the best book for the beginner saltwater enthusiast. If you are just starting or are merely curious and would like to read about saltwater husbandry techniques, YOU MUST OWN THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Before you start your saltwater tank...READ THIS Review: I wish pet store dealers would abide by the "rules" implied by the author, Robert Fenner, as his years of accumulated knowledge guide the beginner aquarist through the steps of set up, selection, maintenance, and ETHICS of saltwater fishkeeping. This book will open the eyes very wide and made me realize that to truly become a hobbyist, you must care for what you care for!! Advanced aquarists will find much useful information in the book as well.
Rating: Summary: Excellent but not enough. Review: I'll just start off by saying this is a great book for someone to start with, it touches on almost everything. The only problem I had was the beginning half of the book (mostly dealing with the tank) doesn't get detailed enough and then the 2nd part (livestock) was too in depth dealing with the anatomy and natural habitat etc.. with only 1 or 2 paragraphs out of 30 actually discussing how it would behave in a reef tank, and that's if you're lucky.I'm glad I bought this book, it's helped me get a handle on reef tanks, but it's not good enough to be the only book you'll need and it's not something you will likely reference due to the skill level it targets.
Rating: Summary: Impressive and useful Review: I'm impressed with the straight forward approach this author takes with letting new marine aquarists know the risks of different tank sizes. The author also takes it upon himself to let the aquarist know which fish won't survive in captivity though they are sold regularly at stores.
Rating: Summary: Readable, informative! Review: I'm still in the early stages of my tank. I've read other books and this one is by far the most comprehensible. The synopsis of various species (including behavior, habitat and feeding) is excellent. Additionally, "conscientious" advice on species to boycott and species capture with an eye toward not destroying the world's natural reefs.
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate Beginners Book Review: I, as a beginner with marine systems (although I have kept freshwater for a fair amount of time) found this book extremely informative. It covered virtually all of the topics I am interested in, including giant clams, anemones, and basic set-ups. I definitely reccomend this book. Eric, Colorado
Rating: Summary: The beginner's Primer !!! Review: If you are just starting to set up a saltwater aquarium, fish only to complete mini-reef, I would highly recommend this book. With it you can progress thru stages, as your confidence grows, up to your,(my),final goal, full mini-reef set-up. I would recommend that you not buy a single thing till you have read the book and decided what route you wish to take. Simply put, do as he says, you will succeed !!!
Rating: Summary: Investment???-------YOU BET!!! Review: If you had to name the the foremost opinion about marine tank keeping, what would be the first thing to come to mind? Well if your new to the hobby, or old alike, the first thing out of your mouth would be "isn't it expensive?" I would say depending on your view of expensive most likley (yes). But this book will save you ALOT of time and money, precious commodities none the less, by allowing you to avoid "many pitfalls" trying to learn the hard way. Bob Fenner brings to you years of experience. I could imagine he's seen alot of husbandry trends come and go, and in this book he will give you a clear plan of attack to wade through the sea of wonder products, tricks, gadgets, and flat out schemes to rid you of your "precious commodities," that exist on the market today. Not to mention the money he will save you through the encouragement of proper livestock selection. Plus he will open your eyes to some of the dastardly collection deeds that are being practiced on the world's reefs today. One last note, I challenge you to buy this book, read it, compare it to other popular publications, and I'll bet that most of thier opinions will agree with each other. Then I challenge you to go to your local pet store, even the best around your local, and cross reference some of the thoughts and feelings of these authors, and I guarantee you will hear some amusing stories. Take it from someone that has seen the evidence, dont go it alone, you'll regret it.
