Summary: INCREDIBLE
Review: I love this book. Diana Gabaldon gets straight into describing these fabulous characters, she does it so well they almost become alive in your mind. Set in Scotland in 2 different centuries, this book shows love in its purest and truest form, it tells a story of a love that will not die and cannot be tainted. While I was reading this book I felt like Alice in Wonderland, as if I'd been sucked into the story myself. The story is based on two people,Claire - a woman who is used to getting her own way, she has a strong will and is the kindof women that most admire. Jamie - a typical Scottish brouge, who does not look twice at plundering but has a sensitive heart and takes care of those he loves. Throughout the book, we watch the timid love develop between these two fabulous people. You will experience heartbreak, laughter and confusion. It's a longer book, but if you dont sit down and read it, you are missing out on one great read.

Summary: sappy romances-a thing of the past
Review: I too fell in love with this series by the ever-guiding words of my mother. She loved the books so when I started reading them we would have discussions on the characters. I of course loved Claire and Jamie, who wouldn't, but I also found this novel exciting because of the onslaught of minor characters who you get to meet. It's just fantastic, there is nothing to compare it with, and once you start to read be prepared to never stop. I was late to work twice, trying to desperately finish those last few pages in the parking lot!!

Summary: What's under his kilt?
Review: A thinly disguised romance novel. I was disappointed that once the main character goes back in time to early Scotland, she stays there for a loooong time. I expected more treatment of issues of going back and forth between realities. Also, the ending was blah, beige, boring. It could have been intense, especially if the time scene had flicked back and forth more often, as her character's husband in "present" time is a descendent of a past enemy. What if she'd tried to get present hubby to go back with her and change things? What if, what if.... ah well....

Summary: Outlander is Outstanding
Review: What took me so long to read this book? I dont ususally read 'historical romances' or time travel. Ladies, you have to read this one! I am so glad it did not have a stupid cover. I would have passed up a great book. Claire is full out guts, amusing and good hearted. Jamie is, well, read this book. OMIGOD! Your heart will go out to this man. The other characters are well defined. Everytime Claire wondered if she should return to Frank, I muttered "the hell with Frank." You will see what I mean. Despite its length, it is a fairly quick read and worth every second. Having waited so long to start the series, I bought all the succeeding ones. The ending of the Outlander was poignant and stirred me enough to read the others. On to the next!

Summary: fear terror horror love and down right injustice tore at me
Review: Pointed in the right direction i was introduced to Outlander by a very good friend. I have just finished the book yesterday and already i feel tears well in my eyes as i think i may never hear from them again. Gabaldon made every page jump out in my imagination and when they were hurt i was hurt. I don't know how Claire did not break out crying throughout her entire adventure. All day i was wondering - i was told this was a series but what kind of series. Are there going to be totally different characters throughout the series...When i saw that dragonfly in amber had the names Jamie and Claire i started welling again...like i had found my best friends again...who i thought were lost forever somewher in Italy in the 18th century. My love to them all even jack randall whom without i would have had no reason to cry - pure injust.

Summary: This book will hook you in and keep you there
Review: This book is perfect for anyone who has ever been fascinated by the history of Scotland, time travel, romance, or all of the above. In the first of a six part series, Gabaldon blends together multiple genres to form one breathtakingly beautiful story of love lost and passion renewed.

The book opens in post WWII Scotland with Claire Randall and her husband-- newly reunited after the war they have decided to take a trip together and get to know one another again. Frank Randall, Claire's husband, is a historian and desires to research his own geneology. Claire served as a field nurse during the war, and has developed an amateur interest in herbs and herbal medicine.

While Frank is off researching his notorious ancestor, Black Jack Randall, Claire takes a trip to a group of standing stones to hunt for herbs. While there she is drawn to a mysterious cleft in the rock, and subsequently hurled through time to land on the same spot... 200 years earlier.

Claire must quickly adapt to her new surroundings and her new life, as well as try to find a way back home to her beloved Frank. She is unwillingly picked up by a band of Highlanders and forced to travel with them. Along the way she becomes aquainted with Jamie Fraser, a tall handsome Scot. Before long the two have fallen madly in love and Claire finds herself battling to keep the love of her life while surviving in a hostile, divided land.

The book may seem intimidating at first glance, due to its' length, but the story is fast-paced and latent with suspense. Gabaldon paints her characters so brightly that at times it is difficult to differentiate between the page and reality. A truly entertaining read.

Summary: Fantastic!!
Review: I have just finished this first book of this series and haven't been so enthused about a new author for many years. Her wonderful attention to detail and the contrasts between life in the 1940's and 1740's were great! What impressed me most of all was her ability to write in Gaelic dialect so well, I could just HEAR it! (The fact that one of my best friends is Scottish helped a little I guess.) This book has EVERYTHING--history, lovable characters, great love scenes, and nasty villains. I can't wait to start the second one!

Summary: What a wonderful book!
Review: When I first received this book from one of my friends, I'll admit, I was a bit intimidated. I flipped to the back and noticed it was 600+ pages... Not being one to turn down a challenge, I immediately starting reading it. What a joyous day. Gabaldon tells the story of Claire and Jamie with such detail. I literally dreamed about these characters! I have never read another book that so completely captured my attention as those in the Outlander series. I am nearing the end of the third book, Voyager, and it's just as wonderful as the first. (No boring sequels here) And I can't begin to express how tickled I was to find that there is a fifth novel! I rue the day when I finish the Outlander series and have to revert back to my old dime store romance novels.

Summary: Best Book Series ever!
Review: I have discovered the outlander series approxomately 5 years ago and absolutely love them. I have read all of them 7 times and it's hard to tell which one is the best! The combination of romance, history, fiction and thriller is unsurpassed. The story stays interresting and spell binding through all four books. I can't wait for the fiery cross!
