Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read! No, it is THE BEST! Review: As an avid reader of romance novels (over 500), I have to say that Outlander is by far the best novel I have ever read. In many of the books I have read, the authors do not reach the same level of detail as Diana Gabaldon does. I am always in constant search of a "great read" and found it in the Outlander series. I have read all four books in the series several times now and each time it's like reading a new book. The storyline is captivating and believable and the characters are very real. I love that the book contains romance, mystery, politics, sex, danger, and adventure. I've cried, laughed, been horrified and amazed by the characters and their actions. I highly recommend the Outlander Series to everyone! I am eagerly anticipating the next book!!!
Rating: Summary: Action, Adventure, and romance, all wrapped up in one!!! Review: This book was one of the best books i've read in a while. It kepy my attention and I never got bored. I liked how it tied in all the differents aspects of writing. When I first started reading it, I couldn't wait for the adventure and action to begin. This book was worth reading and I am currently reading the second book in the series.
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Escape (Reading)! Review: What an awesome book! I hated to have to put it down (and get back to reality) and when I did put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to it. I'm looking forward to getting into the next one!
Rating: Summary: The most addicting book I have ever read Review: I could not put this book and the following books down. They are great. This books really feeds the imagination.
Rating: Summary: Are you sure that this is a romance? Review: This book was really great. It seemed to carry it all: ACCURATE history, fighting, politics, sex, magic, mystery...The book begins in the future, but then travels back two centuries into the same region of Scotland. Clare is a nurse practitioner who quickly becomes nessacary to the survial of a Scottish clan, but not without having drawn the attention of the ruling English. What starts out as a convience becomes a loving relationship admist the difficulties surrounding Scottish life in the 1700's. The amazing thing about this book is that it does not read as a "romance." I am not sure why it ended up there. Outlander has mor in common with the Lightbringer by Donna Gillespi (fiction section, but more romantic-mushy than this) than it does to something like Highland Velvet (also good, but for diferent reasons). My mother, who gave me this book, keeps all of the "to be read" books in the same pile as my father. He read this book and really liked it before my mother even got to it. He even read the second book in the series after we told him it was a romance.
Rating: Summary: I don't think it gets any better than this Review: I absolutely loved this book. It is my all time favorite. It has everything: love, lust, greed, honor, manipulations and machinations. Characters you truly love and those you really hate. The hero and heroine are my all time favorites and the villain is at the top of my most hated list.
Rating: Summary: Time-travel, Romance and History...what more could you want! Review: I am a fan of time travel novels. I picked up "Outlander" at a flea market recently. When I got into the book I was riveted and fell in love with Claire and Jaime. Claire's travel back to 18th century Scotland opens the reader up to a world of history that is fascinating and intriguing. The love between Claire and Jaime Fraser is breathtaking and I found myself hoping she never returns to post-war Scotland. I found that I didn't like Claire's present day husband all that much, especially after meeting Captain Randall in 18th century Scotland, an ancestor of her husband's. Ms. Gabaldon's characters have such strength of character and courage, enduring the hardships of Scotland in the 18th century, it made me wonder what I ever have to complain about! I was sorry to see this epic end. The good news was when I went to amazon.com I found that this was the first of 4 books in the saga! I order the other 3 books from amazon and I am now reading the second of the series, "Dragonfly in Amber". Outlander is a fabulous book about the extraordinary courage of a woman and a romantic love that spans the centuries. A must read for all lovers of historical, romance and time travel novels!
Rating: Summary: My All Time Favorite! Review: There is no book that comes to mind as a favorite I have read than the Outlander and its three continuances, Dragonfly in Amber, The Voyager, and The Drums of Autumn. Diana Gabaldon weaves such a story so rich in details of Historical Scotland that you are literally there with Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser. I feel like I have spent part of my life with them after reading these books written by a woman who can tell a tale like no other. A fantastic read from beginning to end, and you will wish it would never end....Diana Gabaldon truly brings these characters to life. I found myself laughing outloud in some points in these books and crying sadly for Claire and Jamie in others. I have read and re read the Outlander to the point that the pages are falling out of the book. The Outlander is one to add to your library collection of books!
Rating: Summary: Get the 640 page, trade paperback edition! Review: OUTLANDER is a book that truly transcends the romance genre. Told from a first-person point of view, OUTLANDER follows the time-travel adventure of Claire Randall. This is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it book, and I absolutely loved it. I'd give it ten stars if that was an option! Since there are nearly 600 reviews posted about this book's content, I'll forgo further editorial comment and add something that hasn't been mentioned--spend the extra buck or two and get the trade paperback edition (at 640 pages) instead of the mass market paperback. It's MUCH easier to handle, and you won't have problems with the spine splitting or pages separating. Unless you're a REALLY fast reader, this book will be lying around your house for several days while you read, and the mass market paperback edition just doesn't hold up to much abuse.
Rating: Summary: Love this kind of story! Review: Diana's books are always such a joy to read, and this one is a great read. I have read all of her books and recommend them highly. I have also recently been hooked on H. Van Horne's time travelers series too, so I hope this means that there will be more time travel romances out there from all of these writers soon. Great job, Diana!
