Rating: Summary: For SMARTIES, not dummies Review: Unlike other fine Dummies books, this Dummies book tosses you right into cold HTML waters, and keeps taking you deeper, while you look for shore. I got in over my head fast, and I had some HTML experience via the web. I eventually learned HTML mostly through FREE web tutorials; they are often concise, one small chunk at a time, and you make pages as you go. Plus they're conversational and often funnier than this disappointment.I refer to this book only occasionally. Any humor seemed to be tacked onto headings as an afterthought; Mostly it was a rather dry technical text book. And there are too few examples ("Here's the code, and here's how it looks in your browser" isn't seen often). I now have a complex web site I'm proud of -- but I learned how elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: There are better guides out there! Review: Vague and inconsistent. There is too much reliance on the CD and the toggling back and forth got old pretty fast. The book should do the teaching. The enclosed CD-ROM did not have many of the examples, especially those relating to chapters 4, 5, 9, and 10. A call to customer support promised a replacement that never arrived. I also found the attempts at humor to be distracting. More coordinated examples may help.
Rating: Summary: A must have for the techno illiterate.... Review: Want your own website but don't even know what HTML stands for? You need this book. This is definitely a "for dummies" book. It walks you through the painstaking process of building Thine Own Space in Cyber and makes it fun instead of frightening. Highly recommend!
Rating: Summary: Aweful Review: What a load of crap. These two authors have no business writing a book and whoever decided to publish it is a moron. It's all over the place with no real order to it and says absolutely nothing. Don't waste your money.

Rating: Summary: HTML 4 for people who love stupid jokes and useless filler. Review: When I bought this book, I was under the impression that it would teach the HTML language. Thats ALL of the HTML language. This book seems to go into great detail about certain things that arent really that important and even repeats some of them over and over in different chapters (like the "don't use too much graphics on your web page" lecture that appears about 10 times throughout the book). Then, it spends very little time explaining the actual HTML tags and sometimes only gives a very brief decription about the attributes for that tag. The worst part is in the very last chapter. Throughout the entire book the authors tell you about these "style sheets" and how great they are. They tell you how these "style sheets" are going to replace this tag and that tag in the next version of HTML, which is XHTML. Finally, you get to that final chapter that is going to unlock the mystery of these "style sheets". Here's what you get: "Before you dive into this chapter expecting to find out how to create and use style sheets, please understand that we don't tell you much about how to make style sheets of your own in this book." Thats straight from the book. What really makes me mad is the page after page of useless filler information that could have been used to actually tell me how to make a friggin style sheet! Now I have to go get another book on HTML. So, in comclusion I would like to say this. If you know that HTML is used to make web pages and you know how to turn your computer on, this isnt the book for you. Go find a book that was written for people who are serious about learning HTML. You may miss out on the page after long page of retarded jokes and useless info, but I guess you cant have it all.
Rating: Summary: Very useful for begginers.. Review: When I first was going to read this book, I had absolutely no idea how to use HTML. But, after reading this book I thought I knew everything! It was so informative, very easy to understand and it taught me everything that I needed to know. The examples were easy to follow and understand. The examples were expecially useful for when I had trouble understanding certain aspects...but not anymore! I would highly suggest reading this book if you are just starting out with HTML code. But, if you are already pretty experianced with HTML, this is the last thing I would suggest that you read. But overall, it was very good.
Rating: Summary: Marine Proof!! Review: When I was told I would have to revamp our Company's Web page I was completely illiterate when it came to HTML. With this book as my ONLY reference I was able to create a great looking and functional web page complete with image maps, mouse-overs, frames, and tables. I also gained a basic understanding of animation and simple java-script. I would definitely recomend this book to anyone interested in getting started in HTML.
