Summary: A Masterpiece! FIVE Stars
Review: For an English research paper, I decided to read Salinger's works. No wonder the 1950's were referred to as "The Age of Holden Caulfield". The many themes of childhood innocence that is lost to the vulgar adult world and the quest for spiritual fulfillment in a material world are genius. The ideas can still be applied to todays world. It is by far a wonderful book that is easy to read. (It CAN be read in 1-2 days)

Summary: just a godamn book......
Review: The first thing you'll probably want me to say is how great 'The Catcher in the Rye' is, and how it changed my life, and all that existential angst crap - but I don't feel like saying that, if you want to know the truth. It's just a book, for chrissakes, about some lousy goddamn kid who goes to New York for a few days. If there's one thing I hate, it's phoney books. Don't even mention that Holden Caulfield guy to me. So he's a bit screwed up and all. So what? And don't start talking about the human condition, either - I'm touchy as hell about that. We've all gone through that madman stuff; I don't need some goddamn crazy author telling me how it feels. I know how itfeels. I swear to God, if I ever saw that JD.Salinger I'd go right up to him and tell him what a corny book he's written. I'd really get a bang out of that. You know, I'm the most terrific liar you ever saw. If I read a great book and somebody asks me if I liked it, I'm liable to say I hated it. It's awful. 'Catcher in the Rye' - a masterpiece of American vernacular and all.

Summary: This is one of the worst books I have ever read...
Review: I am sorry if I offend anybody by my review of this book, but I think it was soooooo stupid! I am a pretty big reader of books and this one just made me mad because it never got anywhere and just rambled on about nothing. I could've written a better book than this and I am only 16 years old! I am mad I wasted my time reading this book and I am upset with Salingers writing of this book, he could've donw a lot better! AMEN!

Summary: This book as completely changed my life
Review: You need a change in your life! You do! I did, I just didn't knew that until I read it. Before I read it I was a stupid kid who does what everybody do, and goes after whatever everybody go. After I read it I actually got smarter! I did! I start writing, I found a love, changed my life style, start reading some good books (Heller, Carver, Auster) and understand reall art. This book is so reall it's in-sane. I love it and I admire J. D. Salinger, for this book and all of his other books, ("Nine Stories", "Franny and Zooey", and "Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters Seymour An Introduction" wich you can't find here, in Amazon)

Thanks you Salinger, you made me be truth.

Summary: I liked it, but I didn't really understand what it was all a
Review: It was an interesting book, and very funny, but i didn't quite understand it. And what was all the swearing for? wasn't that book from the 40's or something? Oh well. I liked it all right cause I liked the guys attitude.

Summary: The other reviews are either 1) trite or 2) miss the point
Review: There is much more to this novel than mere 'teenage' relations. You can read Archie comics for that. There is much more to this novel than Holden's 'course' language and intemperate disdain. The books outlines something lost; the lost innocence of society. Today, we no longer meet a body in the rye-- we merely pass it by with our narrow and flattened vision.

We've lost all our Holden Caulfields...

Summary: * * * POWERFUL STORY THAT ALL SHOULD READ * * *
Review: I have just finished reading this book for the third time and I am fairly confident now that the acclaim this novel has received is well deserved. It provokes discussion and it is an important and well-thought out examination of a life. Some readers may come away thinking that the story should have been more entertaining or more forthcoming with trite and upfront assessments about life. This is not the case with "Rye". Read it to educated yourself... read it for the experience. For a more modern tale along the same lines as this one, also check out Joseph Green's PSEUDO COOL. Young people examining their lives has always been an interesting topic for debate.

Summary: It should be read by everyone at least once in their life
Review: I had to read this book for my english class (11th grade). I thought the book was really great. Being 16 myself I could relate to Holden in many ways. I think Sallinger's writing style is great. His narrative is easy to read and it paints a crystal clear picture of what's going on. Holden does curse a lot, but who doesn't? The one draw back of this book is its ending. But I guess it acts as a symbol of how Holden's life is not wrapped up in one nice little package. Instead, it continues on with its trials and tribulations--nothing is ever perfect.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Read it or become a phoney.
Review: The catcher in the rye is by far, the best novel I've read lately. Not only does it show in a magnific way how tough and funny (in its own way) relationships between teenagers are, but also it desribes every situation as if you were there. It's just amazing and everyone should read it, mostly if you wanna know how a person feels when he's 16. Besides, it's exactly the way I would have written a novel.
