Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: I liked how Haulden Caulfield didn't care what happened to him as long as he didn't have to be forced into doing it. I liked the end, and where he ends up. Other then that, it's nothing spectacular. Pretty good.
Rating: Summary: A superior piece of work.. Review: I read this book for the first time at 17. I was exceptionally curious about the book, as I'd heard so much about it for some time. Expecting nothing more than a good story, I began to read. However, I got much more than just another good story, more than an exquisite writing style, more than a book of exemplary yet classic adolescent indignation and mercurialness. As Holden's story unfolded, I began to think, and I began to put some things, insignificant as they seemed, into perspective. If this doesn't seen quite comprehendable now, perhaps you will understand after reading the book, which I very highly recommend to anyone searching for a little more. As I mentioned, I felt the writing style to be exceptional. It is said from the mouth of Holden Caulfield, an adolescent boy who has been expelled from school. Rather than go home, he spends three days wandering the streets of New York City. Holden willingly excludes himself from anything phony, and tells us of his experiences while doing so. I'm sure that just about any teenager can relate to him in one way or another. I know I certainly can.
Rating: Summary: Who says cynicism is a bad thing? Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a true classic. I enjoyed every nuance and detail of this book. Some people may not be on the edge of their seat reading about Jane Gallagher putting her kings in the back row, but the specifics of Catcher in the Rye are what make it a teriffic read. People claim that there is no plot, but just even though there is not a uniform storyline (beginning, climax, etc.), this is real life. Real life does not function on set boundaries or limits. Holden's struggle as he comes to a crossroads in life is told from his point of view, a 16 year old's point of view. Although the drama is altogether lost in the cynicism, who says that's a bad thing?
Rating: Summary: AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life!It may take a little time but at the end, we get very attached to the main character, Holden, and we just want to read it once over again!
Rating: Summary: Somewhat Out of Date... But a CLASSIC Nonetheless! Review: Many should read this story to better understand the importance of examining ones place in the world. Also, as with the protagonist in this story, the significance of perhaps never understanding ones place in the world. For a more contemporary take on the feeling of alienation, also check out Joseph Green's "Pseudo Cool." This novel is also a powerful examination of ones so-called place in this world.
Rating: Summary: Very poignant for teenage readers Review: This book really mirrored how I, and many of my peers in my class thought. We aren't the "bad kids" like supposedly Holden is, this is an honors class. This book has a strong moral background to it for those who are willing to think a little deeper.
Rating: Summary: "Catcher in the Rye"...Such the great book to grow up with.. Review: If I could write 3,000 words about this book I would!! What can I say about Holden Caufield, except for the fact that he is my personal hero! High school's tough for many kids, and reading about one's angst, and trials is such the stress reliever! Maybe it's the way Holden puts everything into a new light that one may not think of , or maybe it's the way you get so angry at him while you're feeling so incredibly sad for him. Whether you get angry, or feel bad, this dynamic teenage character is one to surely keep you laughing and feeling!
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: A very very very very good book. The langague and the story being told by Holden makes the book very interesting.
Rating: Summary: Awesome. Review: I am a teenager, and unlike the review below, I read this for pleasure. This book has to be one of the top five of my favorite books. I think that a lot of tennagers cannot relate to Holden because they have never had the feelings of being alone and scared but also trying to grow up at the same time. I do not feel that I can persecute people for the way that they feel about certain things, but I do not think that these people have actually put much thought into their reading. This book is very good and makes you think about things that go on about you. I can understand where Holden is coming from because I feel the same way about people and authority. During a time in his life when he needed his parents most they were not there for him. When he went to New York and talked with Pheobe, he realized that he was very troubled and needed help. If you haven't ever read this book, i recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A CLASSIC! Review: This book perfectly describes the angst and turmoil projected among much of my age group. Holden reminds me of an average teen kid that is found in every highschool in every city, the loser who never gets the girl, the kid who thinks for himself. He's the perfect antihero, someone with whom youths can identify with. I'd give it twenty stars if I could! Don't pass this up!
