Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The most honest book.
Review: For people who gave this book one star or actually anytihng else than 5 stars here isan explanation why it deserves all five. The book describes a life without a huge climax, a huge partys or shocking event, but relays the real personality of the main character without having to resort to flashy things like this. You learn to love Holden for being so honest and real, becuse he points out the things everyone dislikes but forgets to mention. this is my favorite book.

Summary: amazing book to anyone with half a brain
Review: Reading the bad reviews for this book, it became apparent why these people don't like this book; namely, they're idiots. The one star reviews are full of idiotic mistakes and misinterpretations that make me want to yell at my computer screen (seriously, go check them out; one guy keeps talking about his hike through the Arizona "dessert" [I picture a huge banana split myself]). Frankly, if you can't relate to Holden Caulfield, then you're probably shallow and naïve. Everyone feels like this sometimes or else they aren't paying attention to the world around them. And of course Holden is hypocritical! He's an anti-hero, folks. This is not Salinger's guide to life; it's a novel for pete's sake! I really don't understand how someone can read this and not feel sympathetic towards Caulfield. Sure he's privileged, maybe even spoiled, but he doesn't understand life. Who does? Certainly not people who say they "feel sorry for the trees killed to print this" or that Stephen King's works are better (someone actually said this). Anyway, thought I needed to vent about the bad reviews here, but most are good and I agree with them. Read this book!! [By the way, the person who blamed CITR for the murders of John Lennon et al is seriously insane...how can you blame a BOOK for inciting violence in maniacs? Does this person really believe that these psychopaths were perfectly normal human beings before Catcher corrupted them? Please!]

Summary: Pretty Good
Review: I thought the book was very funny and interesting for the most part. The only part I didn't enjoy was the ending. I found it stupid and it didn't bring such a good book to a proper closing. I did enjoy how he created some vivid images of the things and people he talked about! All around funny and well-written book!

Summary: dull, pedantic, trite
Review: A dull, pendantic book about a dull, pedantic hypocrite.
Maybe this was groundbreaking when it came out, but it's dull as dishwater today.
The main character is irritated by every tiny miniscule event that happens in his life, and has to tell you about every single one as if it's momentous. That's pretty much the sum total of this book, a kid griping about inconsequential nothings the entire book.
The only thing that kept me going till the end were the teasing hints that he was about to become seriously ill and/or die. No such luck, just had a bad cold.

Summary: A thoughful book
Review: This book is one of the most entertaining books I ever read. It is a book that make teenagers to to think about their own lives and the decisions they are making. I think it is a wonderful book to read when you are in high school becuase Holden, the main character in the novel, is a teenager who lives the same experciences most of us are living.

Summary: Diana's review of The Catcher in the Rye
Review: I liked this book for the most part. The only things that prevented me from really liking this novel was the continous swearing throughout the novel and the ending. Although I reolize that the swearing was put it the novel to add effect, I don't believe that swearing has to be added to make it better. The other thing that I didn't like about the novel was how it ended because it didn't tell you why he was there, or was happens to him.

Summary: the catcher in the Rye
Review: I thought this book was pretty good, and it kept my interest. I think that instead of the scarlet letter and all the other books we had to read, i think we shouldve just read this one, because i enjoyed it so much.

Summary: GRAND
Review: At first, the novel was really enjoyable to read, but as I got toward the end, it slowed down a bit. This is somthing I didn't enjoy and its why I didn't give it 5 stars. The most enjoyable part about the novel, was the way it was written. When you read, it like your talking to someone, which makes it really easy. Everything was very clear and easy to understand. Good writin' J.D.!

Summary: JRayTribe
Review: I recently read The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I did not like this book at all. It should die. Slowly. I can see the significance of it, but it seems that Salinger has a swearing problem. I'm not sure but this book may have more swear words in it that Mark Twain's Huck Finn and n-words. All of the swearing is funny at first, but after a few, um paragraphs, it gets too annoying. I have two words for Mr. Salinger: Paperback version, page 201, second paragraph. It is what was written on the wall.
