Rating: Summary: Would make great beach reading Review: I wouldn't say this story is a page-turner, but it was a worthwhile read. Miss Julia's character was developed quite well, although I do believe Ross could have spent more time making the other characters more interesting.
Rating: Summary: LOVED this Book Review: I sort of stumbled across this series of books, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the "Miss Julia" books. She and Little Lloyd will keep you laughing. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series, which I believe isn't due until sometime next year (2003).
Rating: Summary: Good, Clean Fun! Review: ...Miss Julia is a stereotypcial Southern woman living in a stereotypical small Southern town, who finds herself in a very unconventional situation. When Miss Julia unexpectedly has her recently-deceased husband's illegitimite child dropped off on her doorstep, she finds herself having to leave her sheltered life and face some gritty truths. Ann Ross creates a character in Miss Julia who is on the one hand, fussy and old-fashioned, but on the other hand, frank and straight-forward. Her dry comments and turns of phrase made me laugh. While not earth-shaking literature, this was a light, engaging read that will help pass a rainy afternoon enjoyably.
Rating: Summary: Hysterical! Review: If you're ever in a bad mood and want something light to cheer you up and make you laugh, this is it. It is lighthearted and old fashioned. The summary by the editors tells all you need to know about the content of the book. I haven't laughed this much since I read James Herriott's book "All Creatures Great and Small." Okay, it's not great literature, but it is delightful and charming!
Rating: Summary: Made me laugh out loud! Review: Great southern fiction with wonderful female characters. Miss Julia is a spitfire! She is sassy and her age adds to the wisdom of her opinions. Yet, she is flexible and open-minded about the curves life throws her. Even better, it is a series so you can continue to enjoy Miss Julia!
Rating: Summary: yech... Review: First off, let me say that I *like* sentimental books where everything works out beautifully in the end. I have an abiding affection for mind candy of many kinds, and this genre is one of the ones I generally enjoy. I like the Elm Creek Quilters series. I even like the Mitford books.Second, let me say that I adore books with oddball southern women taking on the world and winning. Fannie Flagg's books are among my favourites. I love _Cold_Sassy_Creek_. I even like Bailey White's books. So I should have loved this book. I certainly had high hopes for it. A great title. A cover blurb from Fannie Flagg (who should stop blurbing books and get back to writing!) But I hated it. For the first few pages, I liked Miss Julia. Then I hated her. She talks like a third-rate stereotype in a cheesy movie. She seems to be about as smart as a door, and not nearly as clever. And she didn't solve her own problems at all. However, I also hate to stop reading books part way through, so I read it to the last page. I wish I had not. I'm sure the joke about her dreadful disease was meant to be funny, but I found it stupid and annoying. In fact, even if I had liked the rest of the book, I think that this would have ruined it for me, anyway. I'm sorry I hated the book so much, because it appears to be a literary franchise, and if I liked it, I would have had a set of other books to read and enjoy. Having said all that... I know lots of people love these books, and I can even sort of see why. But this one did not work for me, largely because I thought the narrator was an idiot with no real redeeming features.
Rating: Summary: A great read Review: Amazingly, both my 18 year old daughter and I loved this book! Reading portions out loud on a long road trip was so much fun. Well written and totally refreshing. We made an unplanned stop to buy the next book!

Rating: Summary: A Quick, Light-Hearted Read Review: I read this book in about 3 sittings. I've read so many disturbing or depressing books lately that this book seemed like a breath of fresh air. The characters are all memorable and fun. And I was rewarded several times when I thought I had "figured it out" (and I had). Everything works out great in the end; the good guys win, the bad guys lose, and they live happily ever after.
Rating: Summary: Blind-sided by a great book! Review: Miss Julia has what it takes to be a great heroine of this century. Blind-sided by a surprise addition to her family, Miss Julia deals with the infidelities of her late husband with grace, wit, and spunk. Miss Julia is a sassy, spunky addition to my favorite character list. This is a great book. be sure to check out the next two installments in the chronicles of Miss Julia!
