Rating: Summary: Liked it but... Review: ... It's not for everyone. Marly was raised with these brothers for the last 8 years or so and is like a sister for the most part. The lines of incest are not clearly drawn in this book... But that said - Cade is a great leading man and obviously loves Marly - as she loves him. That he has issues from childhood that makes him need to share with his brothers is a twist that Marly seemed to see as a potential from the begining and loves him anyway - even though he seems to hate himself for it almost. She is a strong character that seems to be a perfect match for him... I also really enjoyed brother Sam and am looking forward to his story.
I don't always enjoy Lora Leigh's stories but when she writes complete books there is always good character development and a decent story. Out of the 4 Books I have read of her's (Menege Magic, Surrender, Feline Breeds: Book 1 and Marly Choice) this and the Feline Breeds book seem to be her best effort.
Rating: Summary: Rating as a Romance Review: First off let me say, if you are looking for a book with extreme and hot sex then this is a purchase for you. If, however, you are looking for a book with true love then please...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...pass this book on. Marly and Cade have been destined to be. She's been in love with him since she was a little girl. Cade is older then Marly, and extremely protective of her. Yet, as she grows older his feeling become very sexual in nature. Since they aren't related by blood this isn't necessarily a bad premise. Most ole school readers have seen this replayed in Harlequin books of the past. LOL...But this is where the old school and the 'new school' come into play. Cade has been abused in the past. The author doesn't really go into detail explaining this abuse, but somehow it makes him want to 'share' his women with his two younger brothers. And, when I say share...I MEAN SHARE IN THE MOST ULTIMATE SENSE. I'll be honest...the sex is hot...but that's all there is to it. I could not relate to a male, alpha or otherwise, who gets some kick in sharing his woman. I find that gross and disgusting. And, any true man who love his woman would not want to share. Cade's relationship with Marly is borderline incest, and too disgusting to be true love. Though, the sex is hot. If you dig this...then purchase this book as an erotica only. But, don't fool yourself into thinking this is a romance with erotic overture. You will be sorely disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Hot and Dumb Review: I read MARLY'S CHOICE in record speed: I started reading it at approximately 10 p.m. last night and finished at not even 2 a.m. this morning. Not so fast. I flew through pages that constituted Leigh's feeble attempt to create the suspense befitting a "mystery" or "thriller," which fell completely flat. The characters are as well drawn as the actors in a porno are deep. The obligatory storyline is more like an excuse to throw in gratuitous and sometimes borderline-perverse 'love' scenes. There is no balance or thought to realism. No depth. No character development...that makes any sense.
The scheme that Leigh sets out is something like this: Three boys are forced to endure abuse and sexual depravity. When these boys grow into men, the Augusts, Cade, Brock and Sam, they are haunted by what has happened to them. One of the most startling aftereffects of their abuse is their inabilty to show each other love.
According to Leigh, the way the August brothers experience love, feel complete, and resolve emotional distress is by sharing the "one true love" of one of the brothers. For instance, if Marly is Cade's one true love, then Brock and Sam have to join in for a menage-a-quatre. Ridiculous! This is the 'solution' that the brothers have arrived at after many years of excess. They supposedly 'need' this brotherly orgy to take place in order to put their psychological demons to rest.
The August brothers convince Marly that she needs to sleep with them all in order to show her love for Cade. And, believe it or not (I don't) the other brothers miraculously love Marly too--"not as deeply" but in their own way.
It would have been less absurd to me if Leigh did not set out this silly premise holding out the appearance of a legitimate plot. In brief, the dominant nature of Cade was very exciting and even the dirty way that he had of talking and dealing with Marly would have been more palatable if he weren't contemporaneously professing deep love and respect for her. If he convinced Marly to share relations with his friends, this would have been less disturbing. Leigh's justification for their behavior via the weird brothers' coventant to share was beyond contrived. Why couldn't they just go bowling or hang out together? Talk? There aren't any other ways of showing love??!
One scene in particular was over-the-top disturbing and ridiculous: Cade wants to bring the bad guy out into the open. Keeping in mind that this is the same bad guy who nearly molested Marly when she was younger, Cade's idea of provoking the man includes ravaging Marly with plugs and dildos so that he can see it all in plain view. Well, that makes perfect sense (NOT!).
I gave MARLY'S CHOICE three starts because I really liked the dominant edge and alpha male attitude of the male lead. I even liked his dirty mouth and mind. Additionally, I knew not to expect a mentally stimulating story, though I may have hoped for more. What I didn't like was the paper thin flimsy nature of the plot and inconceivable course of events. I wish Leigh would not try to put a gossamer gloss on what is clearly erotic porn. Someone should have told her that putting deoderant over body oder just makes it worse.
Read TEMPTING THE BEAST if you like the hot love scenes. I should warn you not to expect much better as far as story or characterization.
Hot Scenes. Hollow Story.
Rating: Summary: Overrated Review: I'm sorry, but this was such a poorly written book!! The plot was decent, but the writing was overblown and repetitive. If Cade "ran his fingers through his hair" one more time, or agonized over how Marly would "run away screaming" if she was exposed to his sex practices, I thought I would scream myself. Also, Cade's character in particular was so overdone. He repeatedly went from extreme anger to gentle sensitivity, without explanation. His hand wringing and angst about his sexual attraction to Marly was particularly annoying. The author provided no explanation of why Cade would be ashamed of his attraction [...]. Cade also repeatedly characterized himself as this sexual bad boy whom Marly shouldn't want to tangle with. [...] The mystery element [...] couldn't save an otherwise uninteresting book. To top it off, the book was full of typographical errors, grammatical errors (repeated and inexcusable use of incorrect verb tense) and typesetting errors. I counted over one hundred of these. Given the astronomical price of this paperback ($...), I would expect a much better product. [...], I would be embarassed to put my name on this poorly written, sloppily edited and printed book. If you want solid romance, with well-written plots and characters, coupled with graphic, raunchy sex, read anything by Emma Holly ("Menage," "Top of Her Game" and "Cooking Up a Storm" are particularly excellent), who is head and shoulders above this author.
Rating: Summary: Hot but sort of icky Review: I've read the Bound Hearts series by Lora Leigh and although I don't usually go for the menage thing, I thought they were really good and I was only mildly disturbed by the premise in those books. I read the first two books in this series and although they're really hot, the premise made me really uncomfortable. Maybe it was the idea of the males in the story being with another woman. In the Bound Hearts series. the males introduce another man into their sexual relationship, but they never involve another woman. I guess that's what made me so uncomfortable about it because I was almost okay with the first book, but the second was icky....
The other thing I thought was 'off' was that these male characters were tortured souls and the premise was that they needed to share their women with their brothers in order to feel any closeness to their brothers after the abuse they had suffered together. They needed THERAPY!! There was never any mention of any attempt to get over this warped perspective on their relationship so how could they ever get even close to healing and get on with their lives...
Rating: Summary: Awesome, breathtaking novel of intense and erotic passion Review: Lora Leigh is one of my absolute favorite authors of those who write books published by the erotic romance publisher, Ellora's Cave. This particular book, Marly's Choice, is the first in a series of four books about the August brothers. This first book tells the story of Cade August and Marly. Marly is in love with Cade and wants him to recognize the fact that she's all grown up now and more than ready to become his lover. Cade, who has spent much of his life protecting and sheltering Marly, is hesitant to reveal the depth of his sexual needs to Marly. Marly, however, is determined to break through his shields and reach the man inside... the man who secretly hungers for Marly. I loved watching Marly and her co-conspirators push Cade to his very limits -- and when he finally breaks, all hell breaks lose! Cade is a fiercely sexual alpha male with deep-seated needs. Watching him eventually coax Marly into accepting and meeting his sexual needs (as well as the needs of his brothers) will make you weak in the knees. This book is sexually intense and very erotic. If you want to read an erotic romance novel that will take your break away, here's the one to do it. Once you read this book, you'll want to continue with the rest of the books in this series, each featuring one of the brothers. (Note, at the time this review was written, I think the rest of the books in this series are available only in electronic form from Ellora's Cave. They are well worth pursuing. If you've not tried e-books yet from Ellora's Cave, you are missing out on some fabulously erotic and amazing romance!) Lora Leigh is the author of a number of other books and series, which are not to be missed either! Particularly her Feline Breed series and her Wolf Breed series. Everything Lora Leigh writes is passionate magic!
Rating: Summary: Hot and unique storyline! Review: Marly's Choice by Lora Leigh was my first menage book that I ever read. I was pleased with this story. It's a unique book filled with lots of hot sex and a wonderful storyline about three brothers who while teenagers were sexually abused by a family member. They escaped their abuser but now they have a unique bond where they prefer to share their women. Marly's Choice is mainly about the eldest August brother, Cade and the woman he and his brothers grew up with, Marly. Both Cade and Marly are really sexually attracted to each other and there are some of the best sex scenes I've ever read in this book (as well as Lora Leigh's other two books in this series - Sarah's Seduction and Heather's Gift). The menages between Marly, Cade and his two brothers I thought were fantastic and really well written and quite arousing. If you love menages this is a MUST read!!!! Besides hot sex there is a suspenseful story going on too that brings the brother's past back to haunt all of them. Like I said this book was my FIRST menage book and after experiencing it and the other two I don't want to go back to straightlaced vanilla romance books ever again. LOL. Hugs, (...)
Rating: Summary: Excellent Beginning to a Wonderful New Series Review: Marly's Choice is a sensually erotic book about overcoming past tragedy, brotherly bonds and choices people make. The emotional story begins with Marly returning home from college for a funeral and her decision to finally let Cade August know that she wants him for her own. Cade also wants Marly, but is worried that his intensely sexual needs will scare her away. Secrets from the past not only threaten their relationship, but also their lives. Lora Leigh writes deeply touching and rich stories that awaken not only your emotions, but your sensuality as well. I was drawn into the story of Marly and Cade and wanted to know more about them. This story was an excellent beginning to a wonderful series and you should read the stories of the other August brothers as soon as possible.
Rating: Summary: Intense Emotional and Sensual Suspenseful Review: Marly's Choice is a the first book in one of the most emotional and erotic series of books I have ever read. It features the August Brothers who suffered abhorant abuse as young men and how this effects the brothers and the bond between the woman they love will have to be special - this first books is a fabulous start and a must for those that love a book that will grab you and keep you within its craps from page to page - This is a keeper and from the one of the most talented authors I have ever had the honor to read This book is a Keeper
Rating: Summary: Beginning of a great series Review: Marly's Choice is an excellent example of the use of emotion in a sensual story line.
