Summary: PATHETIC! This book made me angry!
Review: After reading this book I was SO angry I considered writing a letter to Mr. Lamb. He OBVIOUSLY has some unresolved issues regarding overweight, chunky...FAT women. This poor young woman had myriad problems, the least of which was her weight. To lump all of these problems into one symbol (her size) and then to harp on the problems that resulted from her unattractiveness (due, of course to her weight) was an insult to the millions of beautiful, well adjusted, overweight women everywhere. Shame on Oprah...Shame on Mr. Lamb.

Summary: It's probably now my favorite novel!
Review: Lamb has really captured the woman's persona in She's Come Undone. I never for a moment thought that the man had made his characters to be what he thought a woman is. He's captured her fears and loves. Not a fast reader, I devoured She's Come Undone. Well done.

Summary: REALITY BITES
Review: it was cruel and sad but all in all there is a great deal of reality. There are many selfish and shallow people in the world. Loved the story and the connection with the whales. Could not believe it was written by a man, excellent writing that included every detail!!

Summary: Couldn't put this book down!
Review: This book was ABSOLUTELY fantastic! I like the author very much. It was so hard to put this book down. I thought this book was good, because how the auther can describe this poor girl's life from the 4 to 40 is just terrific. he put so much detail in it. When I finished this book, I felt I knew Doloris like she was my best friend, because I knew so much about her. I LOVED this book!

Summary: mediocre at best
Review: Reading this book is like rubbernecking: you know you shouldn't, but you just can't help it. Everything terrible that can happen to one person happens to the narrator of this book. It is unrealisitic, barely mediocre in terms of writing style, and reminds me of a soap opera at times, which is the reason I finished it. It propells you, open-mouthed, to keep reading and see what other wretched things this woman will endure. If lightweight reading is what you're looking for, this would be a good choice. I was dissapointed with Oprah for recommending this; she must be friends with Wally Lamb.

Summary: An entertaining novel.....
Review: This book was entertaining. I kept reading it just to find out what would become of Dolores. In the first half of the book I found myself being depressed and sad. She was either being a real brat and thinking of herself a lot or being just a sad soul! I understand though how she could turn out that way because I have gone through some of those problems. During her "depression stage" I wanted to scream for her to stop feeling sorry for HERSELF and do something ABOUT IT! It got a lot better as the book went on though and as I said earlier....it was an entertaining novel!!! =)

Summary: insufferable
Review: I forced myself through the first 100 pages of this book before giving up. Lamb does get inside this adolescent's head with an eerie emotional accuracy, but I never felt like he really empathized with the character. I was always a few steps outside of her, looking in. It felt creepy. (Unlike the view of the protagonist in Bastard Out Of Carolina or The Bluest Eye.) And one of the more brutal episodes was so predictable, I found myself dreading it as I read. I don't recommend it.

Summary: "True to life" prespective from an unlikely source
Review: While reading "She's Come Undone", I had to continualy check the back cover of the book to make sure the writer was male. "Undone" seemed to speak of all situations in a young woman's life, regardless of the actual circumstances. We have, most likely, been through similar dramas at some point in time and Lamb's usage of the everyday life points that out. The world doesn't end and Dolores doesn't save the day but she wins for herself as well as those who have wanted to do the same for so long, but couldn't.

Summary: A Must Read Book!
Review: I picked up this book hoping it would interest me and from the very first page, it enthralled me. I could not put this book down and I absolutely love Dolores and her will to go on through life even if hers hasn't been nice. I truly enjoyed this book and was amazed at how much detail Wally Lamb put in the book from a child to a teenager to a woman's eyes. Go out and get this book. I'm already volunteering my copy out!

Summary: After reading this book, my life doesn't seem so bad.
Review: I picked this book up because I was looking for something different to read. I usually only read by author and usually it is a medical thriller or a spy thriller or Dean Koontz/Stephen King - definite escapism. I usually have 2 or 3 books going at the same time, and I wanted one to keep by the bed for that 15 minutes before I fall asleep. But this book was totally absorbing and I found myself reading until the wee hours of the morning. I am a little older than the heroine Delores Price and can relate. But I think many people will find something familiar in Delores' life or times or hardships. Everyone at one time or another - and probably more than we like to admit - has felt life's pain. Poor Delores can't seem to get away from it. I kept hoping something really good would happen to her. But even the good moments in Delores life were mediocre. If you think you've got problems and your life is tough, read this book. You will have a new appreciation for your own life.
