Rating: Summary: It is a wonderful escape from reality Review: For those of you who read fiction an hour or so a day, this adventure story will give you something to live for. While reading the book, I relished the thought of getting home at night, exercising, doing my homework, opening a bag of good ole patatoe chips and then the ultimate escape ... cracking the best adventure story I have ever read. After reading Wilbur Smith, Clive Clussler will seem immature and childish. "Birds of Prey" is exciting, inspirational, and entertaining. It will pick you out of this world and deposit you in a world so real and vivid that you forget about the confines of your everyday existence.
Rating: Summary: A Captivating Page-Turner Review: "Birds of Prey" is the first book I have read by Wilbur Smith, and it won't be the last. I became thoroughly engrossed in Hal's adventures and was very disappointed when the last page came so quickly. This book deserves 5 stars for Mr. Smith's immaculate research and story-telling ability, its outstanding character development, and its plot-twisting emotional involvement. I can't wait to get started on his others.
Rating: Summary: I was truly captivated by his extarordinary story! Review: This was the first Wilbur Smith book I read, and I was completely captivated by his story from the begining. Ever since then, I have read every Wilbur Smith novel I could get my hands on. 'Birds of Prey' is a action-packed, romance novel where you are taken from your livingroom to the seas with Hal Courtney and all of the outstanding characters. I stayed up all night to finish every last page, and I drank up every detail! For such a simple last name, Wilbur Smith is the most amazing person and author I have seen.
Rating: Summary: Ahoy Matey! Set Sail for High Adventure! Review: Smith has written swashbuckling epic adventure of pirates, revenge and romance in the 17th century. The Courteneys:Francis and his teenage son Hal prey upon Dutch ships for England until they are betrayed by a greedy rival and Francis is executed by the dutch.Hal swears revenge and his adventures will lead him from sea battles to africa and finally to the court of Prester John the christian ruler of Ethiopia. This novel combines scenes of bloody sea battles, romantic interludes and lyrical descriptions of Africa; it also has great heroes to cheer for and suitable villany.
Rating: Summary: Excellent tale of a Pirates life!!! Review: Even though I had read and enjoyed Seventh Scroll, I was still surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I found that the description of various aspects of being a pirate were consistent with other information I had retained. I like action books and this one kept me entertained from cover to cover. Good job...
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but where's Fabio? Review: This book is a very enjoyable, easy read. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high paced adventure story. Only one caution: at times Mr. Smith seems to delve into the realm of smut with his descriptions of the main character's sexual exploits. More swashbuckling please!
Rating: Summary: Exellent and engrossing read Review: This ones a page burner that I just couldnt put down.Graphic detail leaves just enough to the imagination to make it a fun exciting read. I dont see how any adveture reader could even be slightly dissapointed with this one !!! By all means buy it !!!! :)

Rating: Summary: A blockbuster Review: Birds of Prey is a thoroughly enjoyable read and of the same high level as The Elephant Song, River God and The Seventh Scroll, to name but a few. Eargerly awaiting Wilbur Smith's new work.
Rating: Summary: A trashy, macho bodice-ripper for guys. Review: When I started reading Birds of Prey, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and setting. Then I started groaning at the incredibly predictable behavior of the cardboard cutout characters. By 1/4 of the way through, I found myself hypnotized by the parade of every stereotypical character I remember from the trashy adventure books I loved when I was 12. The young, perfect hero. His loyal negro sidekick. The noble, tragic father. The backstabbing piratical villain. The fat, ugly, cowardly, corrupt, rich villain. The cruel villain who is, however, a "true warrior". The sultry temptress. The beautiful imprisoned princess. A half-dozen more plot elements which I won't reveal for fear of spoiling the book. In every way, at best an average book.
