Rating: Summary: What a book! Review: I discovered this book about 6 years ago (I was 15 years old) while living in switzerland. It has been my book collection since then, and this is the book I recommend the most to people who cross my path who enjoy life, and like to look at it a slightly different way. This helped develop how I think, and how I look at the world. I have read all of his other novels, but this one, by far, is my favorate and is the one I have read over and over again! (I'll also suggest Jitterbug parfume)
Rating: Summary: Yum Review: What a brilliant, magical book! It`s like some kind of connection with all the love in the world... Yum ... Yum ...Yum Isn`t it, my lovely Nora?
Rating: Summary: An epiphany encompassing your mind, sexuality and soul Review: I enjoyed the sexual frankness, humor and and the ludicrous reality that the characters lived in. How do you make love stay?
Rating: Summary: repetitive Review: I liked it for a while, but I got bored of the same theme, especially since he talks about it so directly. There's only so much you can say about how to make love stay. Actually, it's not really that, it's just that he seemed to keep saying the same thing about how to make love stay. It may not be that either. I just didn't like it all that much, on a somewhat intuitive level, if that means anything at all. I'm not sure why I bothered writing this review, but since I did I suppose I might as well submit it.
Rating: Summary: MADE EVERYTHING FALL INTO PLACE Review: WOULD THE PERSON WHO RECOMMENDED ME TO READ THIS BOOK FIVE YEARS AGO AT BIRMINGHAM UNIVERSITY PLEASE GET IN CONTACT. THIS BOOK CHANGED MY LIFE AND MY FUTURE. TOTALLY ECLIPSED.I'VE SEEN THE LIGHT AND IT'S SHINING ON YOU.
Rating: Summary: this book is like a ride to the moon in a wine bottle Review: This is the most awesome peice of literature ever to come into my path. I have read this book several tmes and never grow weary of it. It is one of the few books I've read that are interesting and catching from page one. I wasn't able to put it down the first time I read it and several readings later it's the same way. A truly wonderful reading experience I definately recomend it!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A brilliant novel, Still Life With Woodpecker Review: I bought this book as something to relieve my boredom on holiday but I soon found myself reading it even when we were out visiting different places. The way that this book is written (in short paragraph form) soon grabbed my attention. I do not read books easily as I find them difficult to get in to yet the way this is written means that you can never get bored no matter how long you read it for. It is said to be 'a sort of love story' and that is exactly what it is. A strange tale of a princess, a mad bomber and how to make love stay. Princess Leigh Cheri is a strong willed girl with her own ideas about the world and how things should be dealt with. She is well brought up though sometimes naive and this proves to be true when she looses her heart to Bernard, a man with a natural affinity for blowing things up. It tells of his imprisonment and her long battle to keep their love going. This book looks into romantic individualism, social activism and the problems with redheads. As long as you follow this book very carefully then you will end up being completely satisfied with it. It's changing views of the problems of today's world (and pyramids) leaves you always wanting more. Once you have picked up this book you will never put it down. As a 17 year old I thought I would not enjoy this book but it is a good read for all ages.
Rating: Summary: Yum! Yum! Yum! Review: Tom Robbins writes with such vitality and energy, I believe you actually can burn calories by reading his books. It's like riding a wild stallion - he provides thrills and excitement but never completely tames his words. He captures the glorious sloppiness of life and sex and Twinkies. He also understands the special nature of redheads - we are only 4% of the population, but we comprise 90% of the magic (okay, I'm subjective, I'm a natural redhead!)Here's to mahi mahi, boom!boom!, bad teeth and the wonder of the peachfish.
Rating: Summary: Praise from fellow writer: it wreaks of life's essence!! Review: This work by Robbins had such a major effect on me when I was 19 (first time I read it) that I recognized my "soul mate", my "Leigh Cheri" in a beautiful woman I met then in 1981 who I have been with since. I met Robbins in person in 1980 and no other character he has created resembles the man himself as much as the "woodpecker". I dedicated "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain", a book I highly recommend, to my own "Leigh Cheri". All the best to Mr. Robbins on a work that will never die...Don't know how to "make love stay" but can't say I haven't tried...Kenneth Giuffre MD, author "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain"
Rating: Summary: tangy, yet satisfying Review: I loved this book. Tom Robbins writes brillinatly. I didn't feel so crazy after reading this one(even though I wanted to). This Fairy Tale with a twist is completely off the wall and entirely Tom Robbins. Like the friend who gave it to me, I would recommend this book to a person who is struggling with more than their fair share of mistakes and assumptions. I found this book to be a hilarious and stimulating release. Enjoy!
