Rating: Summary: my personal highlight in 1998 Review: a pageturner, a book to dive in, dream away, go back to 1954 and more, learn about the relationship between Americans and Japanese-Americans before, during and after WW II.
Rating: Summary: These book is good for people with different cases Review: I think the book was confusing and some of the book was interesting on the murder of Carl Heine. I think a lot of people is going to read this book. You got to write a lot of names in notes to remember this stuff and you write a lot of the case.
Rating: Summary: A memorable, if flawed work Review: Where David Guterson fails dreadfully is in his dependence on the murder trial at the center of "Snow Falling on Cedars." Though providing an effective premise for the book, the mystery becomes over-bearing, stealing the spotlight from the story's more poigniant elements. Ultimately, Guterson seems to use the trial as a crutch, concocting a hurried finish to the novel which left me altogether unsatisfied.David Guterson's prose, however, is among the most elegantly descriptive I've read in years. His depictions of small-town life in the Pacific Northwest are fantastic, artfully integrating nature and humanity with cinematic imagery. Moreover, Guterson's ability to capture and convey his character's emotions is dead-on. The story of Ishmael's ill-fated childhood romance, for instance, is absolutely wrenching; it is impossible not to feel this young man's ache. As disappointing as Guterson's plot devices may be, I was nevertheless sad to put "Snow Falling on Cedars" down for the last time. Highly memorable and beautifully written, Guterson's flawed book is a worthy read.
Rating: Summary: Mesmerizing Review: A thoughtful and tightly-woven tale about the difficulties and realities that occur when different cultures and people try to co-exist. Especially thought-provoking for me, since I live in Tokyo and have a Japanese wife. A must read for people who have lived on both sides of the Pacific, and highly recommended for everyone else.
Rating: Summary: THE PLOT WAS ABOUT LOVE AND MURDER Review: I THOUGT IT WAS A GOOD BOOK IT ISN'T THE TYPE OF BOOK I READ BUT IT WAS PRETTY GOOD, I DID LIKE THE LOVE STORY PART OF IT, IT SHOWS HOW STRONG LOVE IS BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE EVEN IF ONE IS NOT IN LOVE WITH THE OTHER. IN SOME WAYS I LIKED THE PART OF THEM FLASHING BACK BECAUSE IT LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THEIR PAST AND WHAT HAPPEN AND I GUESS THAT WAS IMPORTANT OR YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THE PAST HISTORY BETWEEN HATSUE AND ISHMAEL, I WAS GLAD HE GAVE UP AND LET HER GO I KNOW IT WAS HARD FOR HIM BUT SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE ELSE. ALSO YOU COULD TELL THE LOVE SHARED BETWEEN CARL AND SUSAN MARIE BEFORE HE DIED, HE NAMED HIS BOAT AFTER HER AND THE PARTS IN THE BOOK OF THEM TALKING ABOUT THE TWO THEY WERE IN LOVE. THE MURDER TRIAL PART OF IT KEEP YOU ON YOUR TOE'S YOU HAD TO KEEP READING TO FIND OUT IF KABUO REALLY DID IT OR NOT, AND IT HAD YOU GUESSING UP TO THE END. I WAS REALLY GLAD HOW THE BOOK END!
Rating: Summary: This book was a murder and a love story Review: I really didn't think this book was all that great. It drag forever. It really didn't start picking up till the end. But my feelings for the book change at the end and thats when I really was getting into it. It was really interesting with the whole love story and how things turned out with that abd the trail situation. The trail was very interesting and well put. Although I thought the book was challenging it was worth reading if you get into those kindof things.
Rating: Summary: This was a very interesting novel. Review: There was a lot of predjudice throughout the book. I learned a lot about how people were treated in internment camps, the World War II era, how people fell in love and out of love, how people feel when they loose someone close to them. The author got into a lot of details about everything above. I really liked how the author waited to the last minute to tell the outcome of the murder. He went back through gave a summary of everything that happened the night of the murder. This was a very interesting story. I recommend reading it.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK WAS A WELL WRITTEN MURDER TRIAL THAT YOU MUST READ Review: THIS BOOK WAS VERY WELL WRITTEN FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK TO THE END OF THE LAST PARAGRAPH. THIS BOOK WILL KEEP YOU FOCUSED AND VERY INTERESTED TO READ ON . I THINK IF YOU DON'T GIVE THIS BOOK A TRY YOU ARE REALLY MISSING OUT ON A BREATHTAKING MURDER TRIAL. THIS BOOK IS WELL WORTH READING.WHILE READING THIS BOOK AT THE BEGINNING YOU WILL HAVE MADE UP YOUR MIND IF KABUO IS INNOCENT OR GUILTY. THERE ARE A LOT OF POINTS MADE THAT WILL MAKE HIM LOOK GUILTY AND INNOCENCE. SO THRUOGH OUT THE BOOK YOU WILL BE A LITTLE PUZZLED WEITHER HE IS OR ISN'T GUILTY BUT IN THE END IT WILL ALL COME TOGEHTER AND MAKE SENCE.
Rating: Summary: this is a good book Review: Well this is not a good book if you don't like to read. Over all it was interesting yet frustrating at the same time. It had great progression from begining to end and even in some of the sceens I thought was realy there it was so discriptive. It turned out to be quite an interesting book in the end. It was so good that it seems like yesterday that I started to read this book. I think that the author should be put up for a prize or somthing. I just can't wait for the movie to come out so I can rush to see it. I just can't beleave how well all the charicters were tied together and ended up all happy in the end. this is just a great book and I can't stress that enough.
