Summary: A Quick Read for All Appetites
Review: I really tried not to like this novel, as it was full of all the fat girl/skinny girl cliches. And I thought that was going to be possible with the first few pages of reading about Jemima's life of the fat girl watching all the good looking thin girls get the world. But after getting past that, it was quite entertaining. However, do not expect great literature here, although not badly written. This book turned out to be an amusing tale of a British gal who happens to love food for comfort. She meets a Californian hunk online that wants to meet her, and so she and a colleage create "JJ", the beautiful, skinny version of Jemima. And sure enough, Jemima loses the weight, gets fashionable clothes and hair and takes off to meet the hunk. Now we all now disaster will strike, as the lesson here is looks are not everything. But who really cares when you're entertained by the read? Of course it has a corny ending, but it wouldn't be right to send off Jemima back to her ugly duckling days, would it?

As far as the many comparisons to Bridget Jones, I must put my two cents in here. Yes, they are both single British girls with the aversion to spin themselves a few holes. But not once did I find Jemima insulting as I did with Bridget. If you are weighing between the two, go for Jemima!

Summary: Whimsical At Best
Review: While Jemima J has a fun kick to it, the book is whimsical at best. You see, poor fat Jemima has no life until she has a miricle 100 lb. weight loss in just a few months. Add some makeup and new clothes and an anorexic undertone and you have Jemima J.
The author tried to let the world know that each women has potential. Unfortunatly the potential only comes from being thin. Each women should be confident..but only if she is thin.(The last thing I wanted to read was that a 16 year old is keeping up with her hefty weight loss plan just like Jemima. Great now that reviewer can be anorexic as well.) <--see other reviews.
If this book gave Jemima more time to lose weight and reinvent herself I may have enjoyed. But truth be told, a few months is all you need to become a completely different women according to Jane Green.
No one will become confident and worldly beautiful and thin in a few months. So why write a book that pretends. I agree with one thing that the published review said, "it is a cinderella story" And Cinderella is a fairytale.

Summary: Amusing and entertaining
Review: A good, enjoyable read. Sure, some of the themes were derivative, and yes, the writing was fresh and young (which is a plus in my book)...but it was all very HONEST and at times even painfully touching. I enjoyed this book a lot and consider Jane Green to be one of the hottest up-and-coming writers of (predominantly) female fiction out there.

Certainly better than Bushnell, dahhhling.

Summary: By far, the best book I've ever read
Review: I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read the rest of Jane Green's books. A wonderful summer read.

Summary: Jamima J. is no Dolores Price
Review: Everyone seems to be comparing this book and others to Bridget Jones, but everyone forgets that before the success of that book, there was Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone. Dolores' weight issues and personal problems along with problems with the opposite sex were better and more humorous than those of Bridget and Jamima.
I'm in the middle of this book and the constant switch between POVs makes it really hard to get into it and become part of Jamima's life. Granted, it is an easy read but the break ups between the POVs seem like a bad movie that doesn't quite fade out before going on to the next scene. Honestly, I would recommend She's Come Undone before Jamima J or Bridget Jones.

Summary: Best Book
Review: this was the first book I read from Jane Green and absolutly loved it I am 16 and I couldnt put this down. Its very down to earth and very funny! it also has its more serious moments but its got an unusual finish and I think anyone would love this book that like romance and love those page turners. I also read Mr.Maybe and loved it and I have already preordered Bookends before it comes out! I cant wait to read it!

Summary: The Best Book I've Ever Read...
Review: ...and I mean that. This book inspired me to keep up with my summer weight loss plans (which are about as heafty as Jemima's are) and I am on my way. I can't wait to see what Jane Green can stir up next!

Summary: INCREDIBLE!!!!
Review: This book is absolutely fantastic! This was the first book of Jane Green's and have been hooked ever since. I started to read it at 8pm and couldn't put it down. Finally at 4 am I was about 80% done and couldn't keep my eyes open. As soon as i woke up I stayed in bed and finished it. This says a lot coming from me because i generally don't like many books. It is very entertaining and keeps you entertained the whole way through! I would definitly (and have) recomend it to a friend!!!!!!

Summary: "Oh, PLEASE!"
Review: My anorexic sister recommended this book. I should have known better! She related so well with Jemima - what anorexic woman wouldn't? The completely unrealistic premise of this book was only one of its many irritations. I could barely tolerate the bouncing back and forth between first and third person writing. It made the plot even more implausible. Jemima losing 100 pounds and becoming cover-model beautiful in no time at all was just too sugary sweet. The internet boyfriend needing her as arm-candy to disguise his love (lust-fetish) for his hugely obese lover was the lamest "plot line" that I have ever read. My 10-year old son could think of better. I prefer "fairy tales" such as "Pride and Prejudice" written with passion, intelligence and scathing truthfulness. Fortunately for me, I read so quickly that I didn't spend too much time on this waste of paper. Jane should stick to magazine writing.
