Rating: Summary: Warm, Hilarious---You won't be able to put this one down! Review: I have to say, that I have never been able to relate to a character in any book I have read, until I read Jemima J. Anyone who has ever battled their weight will love this book. From Jemima's binge eating to her obession with Ben Williams, this book will keep you intrigued. I couldn't put it down....definetly a keeper. I recommed this to women of all ages....it tugs at you heartstrings one minute and has tears of laughter rolling down your cheek the next. Get it...you'll love it!
Rating: Summary: This is for the fat girls! Review: I loved this book, it will be my bible from now on. If Jemima can do it, so can I! You do not have to be a fat girl to enjoy this so, no offense! I just happen to of the larger size also and everything she said I could relate too. It was great. But this book gave me the courage to start my own weight loss program - tho will not be as drastic as Jemima's. I would reccomend this book to anyone! I too will look into more Jane Green books!
Rating: Summary: Modern-Day Cinderella Story! Review: This book was the best one I've read in ages. I loved the way Jemima matured in this book, realizing that all is not what it seems, especially in the world of images. This character gives the single woman with the not-so-perfect figure a fresh new perspective on what's really important in the world. I loved the way the words illustrated this woman's transformation. If only everyone could have such an experience -- it would make for a lot less therapy bills. The author should be applauded for bringing this character full-circle. I have never read a book from cover to cover in less than 24 hours, yet I just couldn't put this one down. I just HAD to know what was going to happen next! For the record, I'm anxiously awaiting the next book about this character. She should definitely be a series!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK WAS SO MUCH FUN TO READ! Review: I really loved this book! I can identify with Jemima, being slightly overweight for my age. Her motivation has motivated me to shed some pounds and get healthy, not for anyone but for myself. I think that we can all identify with Jemima, whether we are thin, fat, pretty or ugly. I would suggest this book to anyone who is ready for some witty, smart fun!
Rating: Summary: Funny, sad, completely believable! Review: With so many books fantasizing about "if only I were ...", it's refreshing to come across a novel that has all these elements but turns out to be believable. Anyone who has ever had any thoughts about weight issues, will love Jemima J. The self discovery process that JJ goes through is real and one can identify with her completely. I recommend the book for a quick, interesting, enjoyable and even thought provoking read.
Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: I stayed up late with this book, couldn't put it down once I got started! I really enjoyed the characters, and Jemima J is someone that almost any woman can relate to. Pick up a copy of this for sure.
Rating: Summary: In reply to Julia,Sacramento Review: Of course it's not realistic - it's a ruddy book! Jemima J is great escapism - through Jemima's reinventing herself on-line, the reader starts to do the same and it all gets really delicious when she actually becomes what she always believed was perfect. Lovely - we needn't go through all that hard work to discover we don't need to be stick thin to be happy. Jemima found her comfortable weight right at the end of the book and it's certainly easier to be happy when you've one less thing to worry about !
Rating: Summary: Jemima J. - Unrealistic? Yes. Fun? Definitely. Review: While Jemima J. is a little tough to believe at points -- losing all that weight that fast, being described as huge as she is while only weighing aroun 200 pounds, the book is still wonderful. I read it in one day, and I have to say that it gave me something to laugh about, but also something to think about: Jemima's ultimate triumph is not losing the weight, but finally getting the man she loved even when she was heavy. Granted, he thought of her as a friend, but never as a romantic interest until she lost weight. What does that say about our society? Something you might want to ponder even as you enjoy this (guiltily) pleasurable book.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely loved it Review: I can't believe I finished this book in just 5 hours. Jane Green has a wonderful style of writing. The commentaries, the acerbic wit was absolutely delightful to read.I think any woman can relate to our heroine, Jemima Jones. She like most of women today is battling her weight and insecurities of life. Experiencing racism on a different level. This is a wonderful coming of age novel, even at 27! We truly see Jemima blossom from an ugly duckling to a graceful funny swan. Jemima eventually by befriending a once enemy eventually finds true love and the job of her dreams. Anyone can relate to Jemima. This is a great feel good book.
Rating: Summary: Great message Review: I couldn't put this one down. I was entralled daily in Jemima's life. I thougt she was funny and I could relate to her every emotion. It's something every woman should read. She had such confidence and was so real. I think that every woman struggles with some sort of personal issue and reading this gave me an insight on how there are a lot of women out there just like me.
