Summary: One of my all-time favorite books!
Review: I've given away more copies of this book to friends and family members than I can recall. My prized possession however is an autographed first edition hard back copy. I re-read this book once or twice a year and never tire of it. Mainly I suppose because I visit the Alabama Gulf Coast so often and can identify with the real life places in the book. It's also fun to try and imagine exactly where the fictitious "Snakebite Key" is supposed to be. I suspect it's somewhere in or near Perdido Bay...at least it is in my mind. Some say this isn't a "literary classic", maybe it isn't. But it is a helluva good read. And I can't help but think that Tully's horse's namesake..."that white-haired old philosopher" as Donna Kay put it, from somewhere up in Heaven, gave Jimmy a big "thumbs up" when he finished this. Rumor has it another short story collection by Jimmy is in the works...I can't wait!

Summary: just plain fun
Review: I've read this book several times. It's like an old friend that comes to visit every summer. I've found that looking back on my life I've travelled nearly the same route, been to nearly all the same places, but have ended up with a different end. If anything, this book, as well as Joe Merchant, have increased my deisre to travel, learn to flyfish, own a boat and live life to it's greatest potential. It's just a fun book to read. Not exactly an American Literary classic, but just an enjoyable read.

Summary: A fun book to read.
Review: If I could only take one book to a desert island it would have to be "Tales From Margaritaville". The reason that I would pick this particular Jimmy Buffett book is due to the fact that you can read it over and over again and find new and different interpretations. One can get lost in the Fiction of a Fact or even the Fact of a Fiction. That is what is so great about Buffett. He makes sense, and no sense, all at the same time. You gotta love him. Kirk D. Summary: TULLY MARS RULES!
Review: In this book, Jimmy Buffett creates an exceptional character in Tully Mars. As Tully travels across the United States with his horse, on his way to the tropics, he experiences some unique things along the way. Some of the people that he encounters are people from Jimmy Buffett's songs. I especially liked that! After reading this book, I went back and listened to most of my Buffett CDs again. By doing that, the songs took on a whole new meaning, because I had read all about these characters in the book! Now, I cannot hear the song "Cowboy In the Jungle" without thinking of Tully Mars! Jimmy Buffett has shown the world that he has a great imagination and a great literary talent, in addition to his musical talents. After reading this book, I now realize that Buffett is truly a great writer! This book is as entertaining as anything that I have ever read. I give this book top honors and my strongest recommendation!

Summary: This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys having fun.
Review: In this masterful work, Buffett creates a magical place called Heat Wave. One cannot read it without dreaming of exotic places like New Orleans, South Alabama, or the islands. He is able to go from being hilarious and crazy with the hilarious tale of the Heat Wave High School Lizards football team and crazy tale of Jim Delany's trip across South Alabama to the Gulf COast of Mississippi with his uncle to being tear-jerking and touching with his tale of Isabella, the island girl who follows her dreams and ends up finding lovein New Orleans and happiness in Heat Wave. Anyone who reads this book will also love the Buffett album entitled "Off to See the Lizard" which gives a great accompaniment while reading.

Summary: SOMETHINGS LOST
Review: Jimmy Buffett is a great story-teller in the singing kind of vein. I am one of his bigger Parrot Heads and it muses me to say, "This thing sucks!". Don't approach it. Maps and legends not-with-standing, all stories bore like crazy. I don't want to drag my hero through the mud any more, so I'll close with the familiar caveat, "THIS THING SUCKS!". Avoid like the Barrier Reef!

Summary: Lightweight fun
Review: Jimmy Buffett is one of the few singers who can also write. Or maybe he's one of the few writers who can actually sing. Either way, he allows to the reader and listener into a sunny world filled with offbeat characters and humor.

This collection of autobiography and fiction is easygoing and a pleasure to read. It is filled with tales of wanderers and the places they wander to. For fans of his music, there are various references to his songs (particularly off of "Off to See the Lizard). But even for the non-musical fan, this book is still worth reading.

To escape from the grind of the real world, sit back and read a story or two from this book. It'll make things a little better.
