Rating: Summary: An Amazing Reflection on the Human Condition Review: Salinger's Nine Stories provoke an amazing, insightful debate inside one's own mind about the nature of humanity. The imagery and symbolic connections play an important role in this thought provoking masterpiece. I would suggest this book to anyone who wishes to persue the basic idea of existence.
Rating: Summary: An inspirational collection of short stories Review: A friend of mine let me read this book a few months ago. Since then I must have read it over about twenty times. Each time new thoughts and feelings run through my mind. The stories are great and beautifully written.
Rating: Summary: He is the Master Review: What an amazing book! You just have to love it. Everything you expect from Salinger only more. As the last of his books avilable here I have read it is most definatly the best. If only we could meet these people - Teddy? If you have not read it yet then do, but savour every line!
Rating: Summary: Seymore and Teddy one and the same. Review: Aside from loving every story and all of the characters in them,I kind of wanted to point out that I don't think it was an accident that Perfect Day for Bananafish and Teddy bookend these stories.I personally believe (after many readings and one mystical experience)that Teddy and Seymore Glass are one and the same(Teddy being Seymore's last incarnation).I also believe there is some evidence of this in another Salinger book. That being said I would just like to add how beautiful all of these stories are and the undercurrent of spirituality that runs through them has at times been the only notion of God I could truly accept.Needless to say thumbs up!!!
Rating: Summary: American Classic Review: Nine Stories -- one after the next making you lament there's one less. It's ashame the author won't let us read more!
Rating: Summary: Meaningful and entertaining, some of Salinger's best. Review: It's hard to summarize Nine Stories in such a short space, so I will just go in directly and say that (like all of Salinger's other work) these stories are both meaningful and fun to read. I should also state that "A Perfect Day For Bananafish" is a must read for all Salinger fans of any degree. "For Esmu- With Love and Squalor" is another unforgettable story. Salinger's writing his hypnotic and, to say the least, brilliant.
Rating: Summary: a must-read for every Salinger fan Review: I read this book for the first time when I was a teenager - I am 51 now and continue to reread it every year or so. The stories are very entertaining and sometimes quite disturbing. I got the feeling upon my first reading that all of Salinger's characters are somehow connected - that they are all part of the same wacky Glass family which I love. I too regret that there are so few Salinger books to read, but I have read all of them and would love to meet the author. Fat chance, I know.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest Review: Can anybody talk about Salinger after so many people?. He is one of the best, that's it. Nine Stories is a great book, whith great stories and from a great author. If u (the one that is reading this) didn't read it yet, make yourself a favor and get it.
Rating: Summary: more than meets the eye Review: there is so much more to j. d. salinger than we will ever know. the author digs and keeps on digging without apology. sometimes i have to re-read a passage; salinger IS deep; but i always appreciate the author's style and audacity.
Rating: Summary: Salinger's Amazing Style Review: Once again, Salinger can wow many people with this book. The book goes through stories, of everyday life about people. There is nothing extravagent, but it does wonderfully depict the way humans live, through the genius of one young boy, to the sad and page-turning life of Seymour Glass. As is the course of all Salinger books, it's amazing.
