Summary: He has done it again
Review: I own 14 W. Smith books and I am hungry for more. Ever since reading Time to Die I have been his fan. The older he gets, the better he becomes. Monsoon is an independent sequel for Birds of Prey and I think it ranks as his best book along with River God. The characters of the book are typical W. Smith stereotypes. Tom, the hero, is a strong, independent, down-to-earth guy (who gets all the women), while his brother Guy is more intellectual and sophisticated, therefore he is the weakling. This kind of setting is somehow annoying since right in the beginning of Smith's books you will know who will win and who get kicked on the head. Despite that, Monsoon is absolutely superior entertainment.

Summary: Say What? Keep on Smithy.
Review: The discriptive analysis of Monsoon is not available to this humble reader, sufice to say that it is a burner from cover to cover.Wilbur Smith is the second best author this world has seen(The first being Mitchner)Monsoon has been the best sequel to a continuing saga that I have read. This is the begining of another set of books that will enable all to enjoy a master at work,my only hope is that he does not take too long to give us another one. Thanks Wilbur

Summary: Could this be any better?
Review: Wilbur Smith has the most skilled use of english language of any author i have ever read. His books are exciting, enthraling and involving. I think he should be giving other authors tips on how to write. This book has to be one of his best yet (although i did enjoy Seventh Scroll more)

Summary: A great book from the greatest author of our time
Review: Words cannot do Wilbur Smith's books justice. His stories take my breath away. This one had me enthralled from start to finish. The only book I have read that is better than this is The Sunbird, also written by Smith.

Summary: Great Sequel - We Want More!
Review: Smith spins another great story. Impossible to put down while he paints one great scene after another. Best news is the ending leaves ample opportunity for the saga to continue!

Summary: The amazing Mr. Smith rolls on...
Review: Sometimes the Courtney clan goes looking for trouble and sometimes it finds them, but throughout this book, all of the various members of the clan are in a turmoil of one kind or another to the great entertainment of the reader.

While Monsoon is a sequel to Birds of Prey, it is also a prequel to the many other books of the Courtney family that Mr. Smith wrote some time ago, beginning with When the Lion Hunts, I believe. There should be at least one more book to complete the time line to the Sean Courtney era and beyond, maybe more. Tom and Dorian Courtney are worthy parts of the Courtney lineage and they encounter, between the pages of this book, more perils than Pauline ever thought of. The action is fairly non-stop, both on land and on sea; the romancing is intense when it occurs; deceit and treachery are constant companions, some bad things happen to good people and some very bad things happen to some very bad people. No one does this type of story better than Wilbur Smith and he still has the hop on his fastball.

Summary: Excellent sequel to Birds of Prey!
Review: I was hesitant to read this book because I didn't think that Smith could outdo Birds of Prey. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he could and did with Monsoon. This is one heck of an adventure story. There's a little bit of everything in it -- danger, adventure, intrigue, romance, and treachery. And fortunately, Smith does a great job of tying it all together into a coherent, very enjoyable story. My only "complaint" is that I thought ending was a tad rushed -- but that's likely because I didn't want it to end. The ending does leave an opening for a sequel, but it's not the type of ending that leaves you hanging. It just leaves you wanting more. I listened to an unabridged audiobook version of the book, with David Case as the reader. As usual, Case does a good job portraying the characters and their emotions. I recommend the book.

Summary: Please, don't stop here!
Review: Simply stated, Monsoon is a page turner in the clasic style of Wilbur Smith. Birds of Prey was wonderful, and Smith begins Monsoon where Birds of Prey left off, without missing a beat. The narrative is riveting - I couldn't put the book down, and was sad to see it come to an end. This was the perfect read while soaking in the sun on a tropical beach. I hope we do not have too long to wait until Smith treats us to the further adventures of the Courtney family!

Summary: OUTSTANDING ADVENTURE
Review: This book will have you climbing the riggings and hauling the mains in no time. A brilliant tale of a family and their trials and tribulations. This book has it all, boys coming of age, pirates, love of a father, rivalry of siblings, and much more. If you don't read much make sure you don't pass this one!
