Summary: Another block-buster story by a block-buster author.
Review: I picked up my first novel by Wilbur Smith in a little bookstore in London in 1980, and have been addicted ever since. At a time when so much of today's "literature" has lost plot and character development, Smith stays true to his craft and talent by telling a heart-pounding story peopled by colorful and unforgettable characters. As so many others have said, he is simply the best fiction writer of our time.

Summary: Can not get enough of Wilbur Smith
Review: When I saw the book I was happy. I have a full collection and to be able to follow through with the on-going story of the Cortenays it is a pleasure. There are no dull spots as eveything flows. I can not weait for his next book.

Summary: The Master strikes again!!!
Review: To add my two cents worth to a comment from an earlier reviewer of this book...Wilbur Smith is the best novelist writing today..period!!"Monsoon"is a worthy sucessor to "Birds of Prey" and another welcome (but too long in coming...) addition to the "Smith list" "Monsoon" continues the story of the early Courntey seafarers, Sir Henry and his sons, Tom Guy and Dorian. As is common in Smith's book there is a bit of tension (shall we say) between some of the brothers. Sir Henry, after 4 years away from the sea, must undertake, at the crowns request, an extremely dangerous undertaking, and takes his sons along on the voyage with consequences for all, including death, loss of fortune and capture and more adventures than any 4 men should have to undertake. This book takes the Courtney's to Africa for the first time, and Smith's love and awe for this land shows in every line. When he describes the beauty and granduer and yes..violence of the "Dark Continent" you can see and feel it as you find yourself walking along with his characters..(telling which characters and the circumstances would be giving away too much of the plot..)If you have never read a Wilbur Smith book, deny yourself no longer..hurry down to your bookstore or amazon..or even your library and get this book..then read the other 26 books..and discover why Wilbur Smith fans are so loyal..but Mr. Smith, if you should read these lines..PLEASE dont make your readers wait two years for the next one....

Summary: Visual visit to 17th-18th century East Africa and Arabia
Review:

Near the end of the seventeenth century, any Englishman who makes part or all of his fortune in Africa or Arabia, knows not to trust anyone but family to protect the holdings. Sir Hal Courtney realizes that so he sets a plan in motion to protect what he and his family already own and to make an even greater fortune.

His oldest son stays behind in England to manage the vast landholdings. His other three boys accompany him on his seemingly hopeless quest for an inordinate size treasure. However, more likely, Hal and his four children will face death, betrayal, and dishonor as the sibling rivalry is so fierce that nothing, including the Courtneys, seem capable of surviving its devastation.

MONSOON, the sequel to BIRDS OF PREY, is a typical swashbuckling, non-stop thriller that takes readers on a magical tour of plus or minus a few years circa 1800 East Africa and Arabia. The story line never eases up as the audience sees a dysfunctional family struggling to unite in support of a common goal. Wilbur Smith leaves fans feeling that they sailed alongside Sir Hal because the geography and the era appear so genuine. This is what makes a Smith book worth reading.

Summary: Superb, non stop action,
Review: Had a hard time putting it down, but managed to get some sleep during the time I was reading Monsoon. Enthralling novel, as are all of Wilbur Smith books. Have been reading him for as long as he has been writing and eagerly await his next best seller. Bought in Britain in March 1999.

Summary: Wilbur has done it yet again - a rip-roaring story.
Review: How foolish of me to think that Wilbur Smith had begun to run out of steam when he left the bush to journey to Egypt but how wrong can someone get. Birds of Prey was an aperitif for the main course that is Monsoon. How clever to have a prequel of the Courtney stories (par for the course these days) and it works. I felt cheated when the story ended, could he not have written an extra 500 pages? How long do we wait until the next book - too long I am sure.

Summary: Wilbur Smith has done it again-A triumph of storytelling
Review: Monsoon is impossible to put down. When you are not reading this book it is constantly on the mind. A wonderful sequel to Birds of Prey that has captivated me with the early Courtneys who first arrived on Africa. As a reader of nearly every Smith book in print, my opinion is that this is equal to if not better than 'When the Lion Feeds' and 'River God'. I am on pins and needles awaiting more words on Sean, Dorry and Guy-so Wilbur, please hurry!

Summary: Simply the best
Review: I know this is a big claim, but Wilbur Smith is the best author of modern time. His ability to captivate and completely engorss his readers is unsurpassed. I eagerly await every release of a new Smith novel. I hope he continues to turn them out forever! Thank you Wilbur

Summary: smith is as good as ever.
Review: A great follow on to Birds of Prey and leaves plenty of space between this book and the first book situated in Africa of Sean Courtney for many more novels. Unfortunately we will have to wait one more year for the follow on to Monsoon.
