Summary: If you like suspense, pick up this book!
Review: Congrats to Rollins on an excellent first novel. This books provides believable characters, non stop suspense, edge of your seat nail biting action adventure that would easily translate to a blockbuster movie. Pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Didn't sleep till I finished it!
Review: I've not read a book this exciting for 15 years! Rollins seems to just grab me by the throat, and won't let me put the book down. I'm glad I didn't pick it up until Friday after work. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes action and adventure, and has just a little imagination.

Summary: Above reviews correct Crichton meets Verne...great reading
Review: This is a fantastic summer read. Michael Crichton meets Jules Verne with a bit of Indiana Jones thrown in. Settle back, pop the popcorn and enjoy a fun thriller.

Summary: Terrific summer read!
Review: I loved this book from start to finish. It's a scientific thriller loads better than JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, by Jules Verne, who was really just an armchair traveller. SUBTERRANEAN takes place in a 24-hour time frame, which is great for the pace. Biological facts are taken one step further into very convincing fiction. There really are glowing molds in our world--and they light the underground world of this novel. There really are marsupial creatures here on earth--but in this novel all mammals (including people) are marsupial. You're in for a wild ride with this one!

Summary: Subterranean was awesome!
Review: This book had everything I love about action/adventure. Great characters, fun monsters and a dark cavern to run around in! Even though it was similar to Jurassic Park, you were constantly surprised by this new and wonderous world under the ice. I couldn't put it down!

Summary: A big disappointment
Review: I was so excited when I bought this book. I couldn't wait to jump into my Laz-E-Boy and read. I love science fiction and I am a caver; Journey To The Center Of The Earth greatly influenced me as a child. However, Rollins's book is huge loser.

The characters are cliches. The plot is derivative. There is no character development at all. I hate to say it, but I could not finish the book - it was that bad. Worst of all, the characters seem to lack imagination or interest in their own circumstances. An eleven year old boy narrowly escapes tyranosaurus-type creatures five miles below the Antarctic, speeds through subterranean shutes and tunnels in his rubber raft, barely makes it to shore, and then pulls out his GameBoy because he is bored. His mother, meanwhile, in another part of the cave, cannot control her pent-up animal passion for one of her teammates while running from the attacking creatures. Yes, Ashley is so aware of Ben's hot flesh against hers while running from the faux dinosaur things, that they have to take a quick break from fleeing and kiss. Right.

I could possibly soldier through cardboard characters if the plot makes sense. But it does not. Unfortunately, I bought the book new and paid full price. Fortunately, it was the paperback version.

Summary: Last 50 pages are too silly
Review: The book in the last 50 or so pages just gets too silly to further hold my suspension of disbelief. Journey to the Center of the Earth is the better book for this kind of story.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: One of Rollins' best
Review: If you are a fan of Jules Verne and Journey to the Center of the Earth then this book is definately for you. An expedition of scientists and SEALs travel deep below the earth where they find a completely different world, along with horrifying creatures. Full of adventure and action (especially the second part of the book when the creatures go on a rampage), this is a book that any fan of Verne will appreciate.
