Summary: Delightful!
Review: What a delightful book! The boy, Haroun, has a father who is a professional storyteller (the Shah of Blah). His father loses his ability to tell stories when his wife runs off with the dry civil servant upstairs. Haroun eventually travels to the moon of stories where he finds he must help save the princess and the Ocean of the Streams of Story, both threatened by the evil cultmaster of silence. Lots of wordplay and reflection on storytelling in general. Sort of an adult Phantom Toll Booth. Not very suspenseful, but lots of fun. Appropriate for ages 10 and up.

Summary: One fo the Funniest and Most Interesting Books I Have Read
Review: I picked up this book expecting Rushdie to be serious and philosophical. Instead I found a fascinating writer who works on so many levels. The book is serious and funny. It is satiric and fascinating. His use of the English language is spectacular. I keep thinking Disney should buy the rights and animate, but then that may just be a tacky, American thing to do. Either way, a great read recommended to anybody 10-100.

Summary: a wonderful fantasy with lots to say about society
Review: This book is not just a book... it is a reading experience... it is rich in detail and perspective. Highly recommend it to anyone who has ever wondered about the importance of stories in our lives... all kinds of stories.

Summary: Must Read for anone who was once a child
Review: Salman Rushdie has created a world of fantastical places, people and concepts that draws the reader in totally. His lyricism is, and always has been, on another plane. His descriptions of the sea of stories and Iff the water genie and Butt the Hoopie are enough to make even the sourest puss laugh out loud.

Summary: Haroun & the Prose Poem
Review: Haroun and the Sea of Stories is one of my all time favorite books. I must admit that I am in love with Salmon Rushdi, his lyrical approach to life, his outlandish and charming metaphors, his wonderfully dark humor.Perhaps, my fond memories of this work stem from reading it aloud together with my 10 year old daughter who was also delighted and mesmerized by his skillful images. I have many times compared Salmon Rushdi's droll, at times twisted life-view with that of Roal Dahl. I guess I came here initially to track down Rushdi's newest book, "The Ground She Walks Upon," and couldn't resist putting in my two cents worth regarding this incredible previous work.

Summary: The best children's book that adults will enjoy as much.
Review: I remember telling stories from this book, for a thousand nights to my two boys in the early nineties. Only a short time ago it caught my attention again. Happy, hilarious, magical and absolutely empowering stuff is what Salman Rushdie gives us. Just imagine two kids 4 and 8 years old in bed listening to the stories. The y never stop asking for it. Salman Rushdie is as much part of their life with this book as he is with my life through the Fathwa. But he is this one of a special kind celebrities that is a real artist as well. Good novelist are storytellers. Well this is storytelling pur sang. Dwell upon it! As I do and my kids did.

Summary: Another Narnia
Review: Haroun and the Sea of Stories is the work of a true visionary. It is literature of this caliber that inspires and fires the imagination. You cannot simply read this book; you will see and feel it as well. Haroun and the Sea of Stories weaves a beautiful and entertaining tale of a child trying to understand life. Books like this are a delight to read to children. I would place this book in a very short list of recommended reading for whole families. A list containing classics such as The Narnia Tales, The Secret Garden, and Little Women. I hope that George Lucas reads this book and creates a movie of it.

Summary: A wonderful masterpiece bulging with allusions and creation
Review: Salman Rushdie, a true storyteller, has created a magical novel which explores the cycles of creation and growth. He weaves this story full of political, ancient, cultural, and humorous themes. While this may be a "funny book" to some, to me this story means so much more. I implore you to read between and beneath the lines of this absoultely beautifully written novel. You will not regret learning about human nature in such an entertaining way.

Summary: If you want to dream, read this book!
Review: Having no idea what to read for my Englisch literature list for school, I asked a teacher for help. He said he liked Rushdie a lot and that I could read it with no problem. It was indeed a great pleasure to read Haroun and the sea of stories as it takes you to other dimensions than you usualy expect in a dream. But it is not only a dream, but also a comparison with real life, good and bad, nature and evil. If you want to walk in this other dimension, than this book is recomended.

Summary: An absolute Classic
Review: I found this book years ago in overprints, and after reading it, went back and bought 6 copies for friends - then another 6, and it wasn't enough. I read extensively and widely; if I could keep only one book, this would be it. I've read it a dozen times and keep going back. Like all good fables, it is both charming and profound.
