Summary: Engaging!
Review: A sensitive, beautiful commentary on life, love, and change, which transcends the book's cultural settings, while simultaneously paying deference to the milieu of modern India. Divakaruni is a master storyteller, who weaves elements of everyday life, dreams, and folklore into engaging, seamless tapestries which are as truth-filled as they are complex. Wonderful, captivating, and beautiful.

Summary: Sister of My Heart
Review: I first read this story after reading The Mistress of Spices simply because I loved it. This story was equally good. A simple story with a bit of mystery thrown in for good measure. Am now reading Arranged Marriage, which was not easy to find, but well worth seeking out. Would love to continue reading books written by this author, she has, what I think, a style that is magical, romantic, mysterious, and aromatic as the country and people she writes of.

Summary: A bittersweet tale of love and loss.
Review: This is an amazing story of love and loss as seen through two young cousins, Sudah and Anju, who live in Calcutta, India. They are born on the same day, and are as close as any two people can be. Divakaruni does an amazing job of exploring the exotic culture and society of India's upper caste. She weaves a tale that will keep you spell bound and hungry for more.

The only problem I have with the book are the last two or three chapters, and the ending is downright terrible. There are too many loose ends, and not enough answers. And I got very frustrated with Sudah's martyr complex. If it weren't for the breath-taking way Divakaruni told the rest of the story, I would have given this a lower rating. I only hope now that she writes a follow up novel to tell the rest of the story.

Summary: I could hardly put this book down!
Review: I happened upon this book by accident and decided to give it a try. I could not stop reading the story of these two Indian women. The author weaves their tale artfully bringing both characters fully to life. The language and descriptions are beautiful and the plot moves along taking unexpected turns. This is a book not to be missed.

Summary: A Beautifully Written Tale
Review: I found out about this book through my online bookclub. Without them I never would have picked this up on my own. It is an incredible tale of two cousins who are born on the same day and who both lose their fathers at the same time. The girls grow up to learn about life in their Indian culture while at the same time giving the reader a wonderful glimpse into their own secret world.

The author is a phenomenal storyteller and the writing is simply beautiful. The story stayed with me for quite awhile. It is a great book to pass on to friends and family. They will be sure to appreciate its moving story.

Summary: A wonder...
Review: READ THIS BOOK! Ms. Divakaruni's novel is beautiful and her writing style and prose even more. The story revolves around Sudha and Anju, two cousins that closer in more ways than the women surrounding them realize. They are sisters of the heart...a bond so tight and close that it can't ever be broken (and the reader finds that even in situations where one would expect them to be). The novel follows them through their lives and how both these women find comfort and solace in one another but also how they come to terms with their lives and especially how they draw strength from themselves. It captures wonderfully the bond between two friends...true sisters of the heart!

Summary: Recommended, and reliable..
Review: Sister of My Heart was recommended to me by several people in my Book Club, and it came with brilliant reviews. Once I started it I could understand why. It was so eloquent, and beautifully written. I found myself reading for hours just absorbing the surroundings when I had meant to only read for a bit.

The author's review of Indian culture, both in India and in the US is full of insight. Many things that are not privy to non-Indians are made known to the reader. It is both a lesson and a wonderful jaunt through Indian society and culture.

This novel is an incredible delight through the good times and the bad times of the Chaterjee women. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Summary: Like drinking fine wine!
Review: This is one of my all time favorite books. I am naturally intrigued by other countries and cultures and this author took my senses to the limit by intertwining Indian history, culture and a wonderful story to formulate the perfect read.

The story of Sudha and Anju leaves you with a warm feeling inside. I believe every person searches for their soul mate, whether it be a sister, cousin, brother or life partner. Sudha and Anju were born soul mates. Born on the same night just hours apart there a bond that the strangle holds of life could not break.

This is a great book for a cozy winter night by the fire, or even a long lazy day at the beach. Anywhere you read 'Sister Of My Heart' you will feel warmth.

Summary: Sister of My Heart
Review: Sister of My Heart is one of the most fantastic books that I have been priveledged enough to read. It is the perfect combination of reality and fantasy. Any girl can relate to the trials and tribulations that Sudha and Anju experience. Their bond is so strong that it is able to overcome all of the emotional barriers. This is fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone.
