Summary: A thrill-a-minute adventure
Review: Matthew Reilly's second book, "Temple", is part Indiana Jones, part James Bond, part Clive Cussler hero, and part Tom Clancy hero. Other reviewers have deemed this a "fun" read and I whole-heartedly agree. The novel is not deep on character development, but that doesn't seem out of place here.

The novel hits the ground running with the massacre of monks at a monastery. The novel continues at a quick pace for the next 500 pages and never lets up. There are many twists and turns, surprises, double agents, etc. By then end, the reader wonders who is the more prominent villain in the grand scheme of things. Many mysteries abound ranging from creatures inside the temple, the history of the sought idol, why everyone wants the idol, etc.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to go into much detail as there are a number of surprises the reader must discover for himself/herself. If you're a fan of Clive Cussler, James Rollins, or Tom Clancy, this is a "must-read". While there is little to no character development, the non-stop (and sometimes very far-fetched) action will keep the reader enthralled for many hours.

Summary: The Perfect Thriller
Review: Okay, let me admit that I am a die-hard Reilly fanatic. Though "Area 7" left me disappointed, and "Hover Car Racer" flat-out left me cold, the Aussie remains my favorite author in the thriller genre. And without a doubt, "Temple" is his best book yet.

The plot can be gleaned from the Amazon summaries, but I'll give the bare bones anyway. A Linguistics professor accompanies a team of Special Forces soldiers into South America to find a legendary idol, made of a chemical compound which could be used in the biggest superweapon ever conceived. Not exactly original stuff, but the resulting novel is a heady mixture of Indiana Jones, Bruckheimer blockbusters, and a raving conspiracy theory website. Startling twists, cinematic action sequences, and likeable if somewhat cardboard characters all combine to make this book one heck of a read.

Now the primary story is great, but Reilly also includes the parallel story of a Spanish priest and an Incan prince in the 1500s, with their own deadly escapades. So in effect you have two intertwined, incredibly entertaining yarns going at once. Let's face it..."Temple" is the greatest thriller ever written.

Summary: Wow! This book was fun.
Review: Hey, I have to admit that I bought this book on the cheap through Amazon, but not from Amazon. But anyway, I loved this book. It is sheer adventure written in a plausible way. It is action, action, action. I liked the hero of the book and the story, and pretty much all of the loose ends in the book were tied up very nicely. Really, this is a hell of a book, especially if you can get it cheap, but it would be great even at full price. I loved it.

Summary: A book that must have fallen from heaven
Review: This is probably the best actual story by Matt Reilly. It is a totally fun read. That is all it's meant to be. It's not "War and Peace", it's not even "A Seperate Peace" It is an action movie that hasn't been made yet. The hero is good the bad guys are evil, the monsters are scary, the chases are exciting...
This is a vacation book, an airport book, a coffee break book. It won't change the way you think, but it will give you a break from thinking. Enjoy the escapism!

Summary: Completely unbelievable and yet thrillingly entertaining!
Review: William Race is a professor at NYU that gets drawn into a high stakes game that turns deadly for many of the players. Competing groups, some military, enter into the Amazon Rainforest and battle nature, natives, and even each other on a quest to recover an ancient idol that is thought to have otherworldly properties that could be used to create an extremely powerful nuclear weapon.

This novel is extremely fast-paced and a real page turner, but the exploits of the main character are completely unbelievable. If you can suspend reality and just settle back for an entertaining read, then you will absolutely get lost in this book.

My only real complaint is that this author, as demonstrated by his other works as well, completely over uses italics in an effort to place emphasis on words. It actually gets distracting. As for plot, in all of his books the main character always rescues himself with a grappling hook of all things. It seems trivial, but these two items are oddly annoying. Overall, however, this book is a ton of fun! When's the movie?

Summary: Uh?????
Review: If this is a Story involving the Incas, Why is the front cover displaying the pyramid El Castillo from Chi chen itza? That is a Mayan Pyramid thousands of miles away on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Summary: I can only suspend belief for so long
Review: This book, what can I say but that this book was total junk. I didn't go into it thinking "Oh look another Pulitzer Winner." I went into thinking that I like Crichton books, I'll like this one the summary seemed to support my theory. But alas, was I ever friggin wrong. Really we only needed about half of this book, the rest was just a rant gone bad.
Really only one scene where the hero miracously stops the exploding bomb or doomsday device 5 seconds before it detonates is needed, defintely just the once, not twice. And come on could there have been enough villians in this book, Nazis, Militia groups, rogue Army officers, ex-girlfriends who become whoring sister in-laws, giant jungle cats, and man eating caimans. Furthermore there was way too many tremendous feats achieved by a language prof. Yeah, yeah, yeah you can tell me the whole line about the courage of the everyday man, but come on. Oh and I don't know, but I guess that Mr. Reilly must have forgot that he had one of the pontoons on the seaplane shot off. But the charactors continue to fly and land the thing throughout the rest of the book. I thought that it'd be kind of hard to land a seaplane with just one pontoon WITHOUT IT CRASHING!!!
I will say this, the initial idea for the story was good, but not much else. In fact I think this book sucked. The only reason I gave it a star was because I finished it. Why I don't know, but I did, guess I just figured I had too much time invested to just give up.

Summary: Completely preposterous, but a wild ride!
Review: I picked up "Temple" during a Clive Cussler hiatus, and I was not disappointed. The story was completely and thoroughly unrealistic, but it was a fun and quick read. The action is constant and often preposterously improbable. How many times in one day can an ordinary guy face (and defeat) death? I felt like I was reading a movie script for a mindless but entertaining summer blockbuster. The imagery is vivid. Reilly did a good job of making me feel like I was actually in the jungle and at the temple.
