Rating: Summary: Oh where is the lunacy of Ice Station? Review: Unfortunately, Temple lacks the total gonzo, over the top, damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead insanity that made Ice Station such a guilty pleasure. A rather slow plot and an ill-fated attempt at doing some background research (exactly how does a stone get "fossilized" anyway?) does nothing but hamper the admittedly fun action sequences. Reilly is no Crichton, not even an Alister Maclain and his attempts to pad the plot and add characterization simply make one sigh impatiently and hope that it gets better soon. Wait for the paperback and read it for the super fun (and ridiculous) action sequences. And if those are all you want, you can pretty safely start about halfway through the book...
Rating: Summary: action pack, thrill, suspense...awesome Review: If you're looking for an adventure or quest like Indiana Jones or the upcoming Tomb Raider movie, then this is the book for you. I couldn't put the book down after I start reading it. The action keeps you in suspense until the end. That's all that I can say without giving out any spoilers. So go ahead and pick up the book. I'm warning you though, read it during weekends otherwise you will be neglecting your household chores.
Rating: Summary: Great holiday read Review: For those of you who can still remember Alistair MacLean, this book is in a similar style, and I really enjoyed it. OK, some of it just isn't believable and it's not going to win the Booker Prize, but it's a really good read, especially for vacations. It's a tribute to Matt Reilly that he can keep the action going through 700 pages - I waa so enthralled, I didn't even feel the need to turn to the end to see what happened!!
Rating: Summary: Let's get REAL, shall we? Review: OK, so it's not "meaningful" or "original" writing, but I've got to admit, it was FUN! Guys with GUNS, giant RAPAS, speedboats EXPLODING! It was totally meaning-LESS, and UN-original, but I HAVE to tell you, in a day and age where we fork over HUGE dollars to be overwhelmed by special effects laden "blockbuster" movies, it's kind of refreshing to read a novel that DOESN'T take itself so seriously. Escapist fiction at its best, complete with heroes, villians, ancient traps and pitfalls, vicious snarling beasts, and (of course) guns that NEVER run out of bullets (Unless you've got a handy EMP generator, right?). I ready for my CLOSE-UP Mr. Reilly!
Rating: Summary: Not to be compared with Tom Clancy Review: I was expecting some magical things or misteries to be solved when I read the backpage: Some doors are meant to remain unopened. But what I found is unbelievable stories and a superhero which can do nearly unbelievable things. Some parts are to much detail. Please count and find out yourself Thehow many pages the author described about the pursuit in the river. Anyway, some pages are interesting to follow.
Rating: Summary: Good action but not very belivable Review: Hero wins through despite impossible odds. A very fast moving story line with many twists and turns to delight even the most jaded of readers. A disappointment that major chunks of plot that are very similar to ICE STATION. Swap water for ice and the chase scenes are virtually interchangeable. The use of animals in the plot of the first book was novel - in the second it was a case of deja vu. Check out a "A Tourist in the Yucatan" if you want a more belivable adventure thriller.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down quick enough! Review: I was given this book for Christmas. It was the worst present I have ever received. Totally unbelievable from beginning to end with cliched characters, plots and juvenile writing full of hackneyed words and phrases. But who am I to complain. Judging by other reviews this book is fantastic-such is life.
Rating: Summary: Good book for teens Review: See story summary above. An action packed thrill ride through the jungles. A good story for the comic books. I say this because, as implied elsewhere, it's all so implausible and unbelievable. This title will most be appreciated by young readers. Maybe grades 8-12. But be advised, there is plenty of violence and death. Recommended for younger readers with a taste for adventure.
Rating: Summary: What a Ride Review: This book does what I bought it for, surrounding me in a wonderful adventure/action story that I had a hard time putting down, and reread when I finished the 1st time! The plot is exciting and well thought out, And I loved the way story from the past tied in with the main story.
Rating: Summary: unbelievable............ Review: I enjoyed this book for the first third of the story. Somewhere around that point I found myself becoming bored. Not that there wasn't plenty of action, there was. It was just way beyond plausible. I really enjoy this type of story, but it need to be credible. This was incredible.
