Summary: a story so capturing you don't want it to end
Review: If you only read one book this is the one to read!It is a wonderful story of two souls who find each other and themselves. A delightful tale of friendship, and growing up--no matter what age one is. This book will make you laugh, giggle, think and cry. An amazing read.

Summary: Great Read!!
Review: One of the most fun books I've read in a long time! The relationships between Joey, Charlie, Hazel, Aunt Carrie, Craig and the Rabby were so warm and real - I laughed out loud... and I cried. The mix of letters, newspaper clippings, box scores, report cards(!!) and matchbook covers was delightful. And the book gave a very real sense of the war, Japanese Internment Camps, and the youthful exuberance and innocence of the soldiers. Very disappointed to have the book come to an end.

Summary: Terrific, hilarious, warm, made me laugh out loud
Review: Great book. Made me both laugh out loud and wimper, a very embarrasing situation on a Continental airlines flight. Excellent.

Summary: You miss this one, you are really missing something special.
Review: I haven't been as moved by a book since I read To Kill a Mockingbird about a thousand years ago, and that turned out to be my second favorite book of all time. Yes, this book is funny, very funny, and yes the characters jump off of the page as you read their letters, but all this just serves to disarm you and make you aware of just how fragile you are as a human being. Steve Kluger has done an amazing job with this book. I write funny novels for a living, and I'd be proud to have my name on this book. (Well, in fact, I put my name on a couple of copies before the clerk at the book store stopped me and took away my Magic Marker.)Buy this book. Buy many copies. Your friends and relatives need this book too. Especially that grumpy aunt of yours.

Summary: 40's friendship between a baseball player and a 12 year old
Review: Last Days of Summer is a wonderful, funny novel of friendship between a 12 year old and a baseball player set in the early 40s. The story is told through newspaper clippings and correspondence and in this clever format, Kluger presents as rich a novel as I've read in a while. This book is an especially good young adult selection.

Summary: READ THIS BOOK!
Review: Truly an excellent book - rarely are characters so likeable and lifelike. Basically, I didn't want the book to end. Even my husband, who rarely ventures outside the realm of non-fiction, couldn't put this book down!

Summary: Excellent Read!!
Review: Even for someone who hates watching sports, I must admit I enjoyed this book immensely. Its style, variety, and clever dialogue are delivered in an interesting and emotionally captivating manner. As a teacher of 13-year-old gifted students, I have run across many "Joeys" in my classroom. He is definitely an intersting and very "real" character. Although rare, his genius does exist. I often wonder what my "Joeys" ended up doing as adults.

Summary: I giggled, I chuckled, I laughed, I cried.
Review: Every child needs to be loved and needs a hero--Joey Margolis found both in Charlie Banks. Written in an unlikely format--letters, report cards, psychologist's reports, etc. the story captures your attention and holds it untill the very end. You turn the final page and find yourself disappointed that the book is finished. Destined to become a classic.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Wonderful....one of the best of summer
Review: I really enjoyed this book, and by the time I was done, I had tears streaming down my face. Joey and Charlie's relationship seemed real to me. My question is: Was Charlie a real ballplayer, or a ficticious one?
