Rating: Summary: A funny, heartwarming story of a boy and his hero Review: This is the best book I've read in a long time. I loved Joey and his devious ways and Charlie was wonderful. Laughter through tears--what a beautiful emotion. I am recommending this book to everyone who enjoys a great story.
Rating: Summary: An exhausting and exhilarating roller coaster ride Review: Yes...it's outrageous. Yes...it's an exercise in excess. Yes...it's a stretch in every sense of the word. All that said...it's a wonderful read: a story of faith, trust, pain and growth, a story that challenges your imagination and your heart. Joey is unlike any twelve year old you ever met, but then you didn't know Steve at twelve (and I did). Suspend your disbelief for the few hours it takes to inhale this book and immerse yourself in a genre mastered with delightful creativity. You will be grateful that you took the time.
Rating: Summary: Extrodinarily Creative, Hilarious and Uplifting Review: This book was the best book I've read all year (and I've read a bunch)! The presentation was creative, the humor and wit is outstanding, and the story was heart-warming. I've recommended it to many people and they've all loved it! Buy it, you won't be disappointed!!
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: So it's a little too cute and predictable..so what? It's also a book that will make you feel some emotion.... try and find some of THAT in a NY times bestseller. And as far fetched as these relationships between the characters in this book might have seemed, kudos to the author for making them believable. A good book.
Rating: Summary: Sports+relationships+humor+tears = excellent reading for all Review: After 45 seconds of glancing through this book (and laughing out loud), I was sold! Although I mentally edited most of the color metaphors, this relationship-based book is the second best I've ever read (The Bible is first). Once you start, you can not stop. The only reason I had to was that my flight between Philly and West Palm Beach was over -- too bad we couldn't have circled around the airport a few more times! Thanks for bringing the characters to life for me. I'm reading it again, of course, and the pages are more alive than before.
Rating: Summary: I laughed, I cried, I told all my friends Review: Joey Margolis was so refreshing - just plain fresh. I LOVED this book, it reminded me of my own childhood hero. This kid was just unstoppable. The character line-up was perfect, from Aunt Carrie, to Hazel and her competition with Ethyl Merman. Laugh out loud funny.
Rating: Summary: a must read for everyone Review: i have read numerous books over the years and this book is definately one of my top three. i read the first letter from the juvenile detention center and became hooked. i have since read bits and pieces to various friends and many of them have gone out and bought the book. it is just to good to keep to yourself. if i could have, i would have given it six stars!
Rating: Summary: Very funny! Suspend your disbelief and wallow in it. Review: It took me about 3 hours to finish this book - it's a fast read and VERY fun. Of course the actual plot is unrealistic, but not the characterizations. I wanted more, more, more!More!
Rating: Summary: You don't need to be a baseball fan to thoroughly enjoy this Review: One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the character development. Telling the story through letters, postcards, etc. was brilliant. I hope others will take the time to read this funny, poignant, and uplifting book.
Rating: Summary: Just TOO Cute!!!!!!! Review: OK. The book has some nice things going for it. The mix of letters, report cards, newspaper articles, etc. is clever. And it started out with an interesting premise. But the precocious main character Joey became more and more unbearable with each page. He became a stereotyped "loveable little scamp" of WWII vintage who hobnobs with stars of stage, screen and ballpark, personally corresponds with the White House, dances with Eleanor Roosevelt, etc. etc. ad nauseam. If he had built a space ship with scrap auto parts and flown it to the moon it would have fit right in. The ending is so predictable it's pathetic.
