Summary: Wonderful read!
Review: This funny, poignant novel grabs you from the first page and you won't put it down until you've finished. A terrific coming-of-age that takes place during WWII. Joey Margolis, the main character, is hilarious. You will laugh and cry -- guaranteed.

Summary: Life, love, and the comedic pursuit of baseball...
Review: I haven't laughed out loud this much in a really long time! This book was an absolute JOY to read. The creativity of the layout and narrative style made it a quick and wonderful story. The author does a fabulous job of allowing you into the minds and hearts of the characters, since he relies strictly on their own words to paint the pictures. This book is like taking a peek into a personal scrapbook from someone's history. Grab this one!

Summary: A diamond in the rough. No pun intended.
Review: This in one of those books that you keep on your bookshelf so someone can spot it and ask "Is this any good?" Not a baseball book, baseball is just the vehicle Steve Kluger uses to tell his story about the relationship between Joey and Charlie. Laced with humor and touching moments, Last Days of Summer is a quick read that everyone should invest in. This is one of those unheralded gem finds that once you're finished, you're glad you picked it up.

Summary: A Wonderful Story!
Review: Having read Mr. Kluger's previous baseball novel, I had high expectations for this one, and I was not disappointed. I was constantly laughing at the exploits of the young hero and enjoyed reading about how his relationship with the Giants ballplayer came to be. The ending was not completely unexpected, given the time in which the book is set, but it was uplifting in it's own way. "Laugh Out Loud" funny is exactly the right way to refer to this book!

Summary: Linda
Review: Our 72 year-old neighbor suggested this book and we're glad he did. Having ties to Brooklyn and a love of the era in which the story takes place and along with a love of Baseball, this book is a great read. Mr Kluger's novel transcends generations. Our only concern is some language may not be suitable for younger kids. My neighbor was concerned that we wouldn't connect with the time frame. It's hilarioulsy funny and wonderfully touching. The format is great and very different. Take a chance and read this book! You won't be sorry.

Summary: unbelievable
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is hysterically funny, and the characters are so real I almost know them. I think I do know some of them. The format of the book is refreshing and interesting, and makes it a very quick read. I finished it in one day, but I'm sorry I'm done so soon. The story was touching and left me all gushy inside but in a great way, not a sappy way. I recommend this book to any and all.

Summary: A GREAT BOOK!
Review: I loved this book! I usually read mysteries, but this was highly recommended to me. It was laugh out loud funny in parts but also very touching. The ending was predictable but it was handled with such skill by the author that I was still moved. I've recommended this to several people and the ones who were smart enough to read it enjoyed it immensely. Do yourself a favor: Read it, you'll like it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Less about baseball, more about life
Review: If you're worried that you won't like this book because of the baseball element, worry no more. Baseball is part of it, yes, but the focus is more on life and on how much one life can be changed by a single relationship. We watch Charlie and Joey's relationship as it grows, and they grow along with it. There are lots of laughs along the way, but the book doesn't shy away from difficult themes: bigotry, war, abandonment. It's a wonderful book that should be required reading (except "required" usually ends up being "hated," and that's a fate this book does not deserve).

Summary: Absolutely Great Read
Review: I would have never guess that I would enjoy a book about a boy and his hero - a baseball player. I not only enjoyed it, I laughed out loud and finally I cried. Then I told almost everyone I know who likes to read to read this book. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Oh and I really loved it. Did I already mention that?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Didn't put it down -- even after I finished the book
Review: What a rewarding book! This story of an offbeat friendship between a Brooklyn kid and his baseball hero feels real, had me laughing convulsively, kept me waiting breathlessly for the next adventure, and brought to life a great cast of supporting characters.

What makes the book so special is that, although often hilarious, there is a gentle side to the humor. At the same, while it is a very moving story, there is nothing schlocky about it.

Two suggestions: First, don't skip a single word. And second, forget about getting any work done till you get to the last page.
