Summary: Finding My Caitlin
Review: This book describes a friendship in it's purest form. The good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. I believe that every woman has had a Catilin in their lives. Mine is by childhood best friend, we may not have spent our summers together but she drifts in and out of my life with new stories and adventures I can only dream about. I have read this book more than once, and it only becomes truer. It's impossible to put down. Every woman should read this book.

Summary: Good for all women and girls
Review: The book Summer Sisters to me was such an amazing book. I cannot explain how much I enjoyed reading it. Every time that I opened the book I never wanted to put it down. The relationship between Caitlin and Vix seemed as though it was reality. When I began to read this book it made me think of my sister and her best friend. No matter what they do during the years they always come together to spend the summer with one another on our families vacation spot. Although, they were not in any race to be the first one to receive their kiss or any other relationships with boys, they always came back together for the summer.
There is something about the way that Judy Blume wrote this book as a fiction when it seems so real, is totally amazing to me. I feel this way because Judy Blume makes you feel as though you are there through out everything and as though you are part of the girls summer life as well as their individual lives.
When Caitlin calls to tell Vix the news in the end you feel so horrible for her and begin to cry. In my eyes this book was absolutely great and I recommend it to every women and girl.

Summary: Never too old for Blume!
Review: I grew up reading Judy Blume books, and was fascinated when I learned she also wrote books targeted to an older audience. I bought "Summer Sisters" as a book to read on flights that I take, but simply couldn't put it down until I was finished! And after reading this book for the first time... I picked it right back up the next night and started reading again, thinking that I might have missed something the first time around. This is a fantastic book, and I would definitely recommend!

Summary: 14-year-old Bookworm's Opinion
Review: I am quickly labeled by everyone who meets me as a bookworm or a bibliophile (depending on their age). I, as you may be able to figure out on your own, have read many, many, many, MANY books in my short lifetime, and this book has got to be within the top two everything I have ever read. I first read this book when I was 11 and I re-read it faithfully at least twelve times a year. I identify with Vix in how she is a little shy of boys at first and very obedient of her parents, as when Bru and Von offer them a ride and she doesn't want to hitch-hike. My very best friend, whom I have known since kindergarten, I identify with Caitlin. She has always been more street-smart and experienced than me. I am often in awe of her. She is forward and outgoing, much like Caitlin. This book was also very realistic. It wouldn't have been anywhere near as good if Vix had married her first love, Bru. That is very untrue to life. I cried at the end when...well, I won't give it away to those who haven't read it yet. I was so disappointed at first when Vix didn't marry Bru, but then I realized that Gus was still a good match for her and that it really would have been too good to be true if the book had ended happily, with Vix and Bru marrying and living next door to Caitlin and Von. Their kids would have been perfect and they would get together every Sunday for dinner. THis would have made the book too sickly sweet. It would have nothing to set it apart from all the other books I have read. Please read it...open the door of your heart to a story of teens and love. Remember.

Summary: Real, relevant, touching, extraordinary
Review: Judy Blume is the type of author that seems to know everything about girls and women, and she expresses that knowledge beautifully. "Summer Sisters" is a wonderful novel that follows the friendship of Caitlin and Vix from the 1970's to the mid 90's, from awkward moments to boyfriends and sex to marriage and divorce. The characters are wonderfully drawn. They're not exotic or perfect and they don't learn all their lessons -- they're as real as possible. A great read for all girls and women.

Summary: Hated to see this book end...
Review: Growing up, I loved reading books from my favorite author Judy Blume. I'm 22 now and was ecstatic to find out that Ms. Blume also had a few books out for her older readers. From beginning to end this book was amazing. Vix and Caitlin are very opposite of eachother but quickly become friends when Caitlin invites Vix to go away with her and her family for the summer. The book follows the girls from puberty into womanhood. This book reminded me so much of myself when I was younger and my very friend "Caitling" whom I think each and every one of us knew when we were growing up.

Summary: A quick, fantastic read . . .
Review: The writing of this novel is utterly personal and, although not too complex, it has many layers: happiness, sadness, betrayal, love. When reading, you get a true sense of the lives and feelings of every character. Most people will be able to relate to this novel even if they haven't been in the same situation. Everyone should read it!

Summary: Best To Be Read On The Beach In The Summer
Review: "Summer Sisters" begins in the summer of 1990. Victoria "Vix" Leonard, a 24-year-old Harvard graduate, receives a surprising call from her estranged best friend, Caitlin Somers: Caitlin is getting married at the end of July, and she wants Vix to be the Maid of Honor. Furthermore, she's engaged to Bru, Vix's old boyfriend. Despite the shock, Vix agrees to be there.

Then the story flashes back to 1977-1980, when these two girls became "summer sisters". Vix was an awkward, shy sixth-grader when Caitlin chose her out of all the other students and invited her to Martha's Vineyard for the summer. During those three years, Vix matures tremendously, and with the start of puberty, most of her experiences are sexual--either with Caitlin or her first boyfriend, Bru. If you hadn't guessed, Vix and Caitlin's friendship borders on the lesbian side. I mean, how many best friends count each other's pubic hairs? (Please don't reply; I don't really want to know. :)

The book continues on through the 80s and 90s like that, feeling like one long summer vacation. (If you had one, you'll most likely reflect on your own summer fling(s).) While Vix is the main character in the book, several other characters share their opinions in a few brief chapters, such as my two favorites: Lamb, Caitlin's endearing hippie father, and Sharkey, Caitlin's introverted older brother.

So far, this is Judy Blume's longest book, reaching almost 400 pages, but it's hardly wordy. She always has a knack for writing concise stories that expand and stick in your mind. This is mainly why I love reading anything by Judy Blume. She is an absolutely talented storyteller.

Now, although "Summer Sisters" is a fantastic book, it's not one of my favorites. I guess I had a hard time feeling anything for Vix's friend, Caitlin. On one hand, she did get Vix out of her shell, but on the other... well, she was just a terrible friend. She was too competitive and jealous, and Vix deserved better. So, when Caitlin departs (for lack of a better term) in the end, I was very relieved. It was an appropriate ending for a much-hated character.

Despite that, I would still recommend this book. "Summer Sisters" was definitely refreshing, and made me wish Judy Blume would write more "adult" novels like this or her other two, "Smart Women" and "Wifey".

Summary: Great book for any woman
Review: After picking this book up and not being able to put it down for about seven hours, I realized that this book was almost perfect. It is the type of book that any woman should read because it brings back memories of friendships, first loves, and many other girlhood days. Almost anyone can find something that takes them back to the days when their biggest worries were whether or not some boy thought they were cute. It is a great book. The only dissapointment was that the ending seemed rushed. The book was very detailed throughout the first three-quarters, but seemed to sum up all the endings in just a few chapters. Overall, a wonderful book! I recommend it to all women.
