Rating: Summary: Another page turner Review: I have read nearly all of Judy Blume's books. Whenever I read one, I read it in a day. This book was no exception. I identified so much with the Vix character, and her dysfunctional relationships. Sometimes, I felt like I was reading about myself.
Rating: Summary: I was really disappointed Review: I was also amazed to know this book had made the NY Times best seller list. When my daughter was a little girl, we read a lot of Judy Blume's children's books together, I truly enjoyed reading them with her. When I saw that she was writing stories for adults, I quickly grabbed the first one I saw. Big mistake. Abby, Vix and a few others were wonderful characters with depth and personality..... It could have been a good book had Caity been left out. If I had to describe this book in one word, "Weird" comes to mind.Stick to children's books, Ms. Blume.... they, are enjoyable reading.
Rating: Summary: Very good and entertaining Review: This was a terrific book and I completely enjoyed it. Aside from the sexually, well, odd, scenes, it was a terrific story that many people can relate to. I could especially relate to Vix, but at the end, I could relate more to Caitlin. I loved this story! I would really really recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Stick with Blume's childrens books Review: As an educator, I've always been a big fan of Blume's childrens literature. However, this adult novel fell short. I felt as thought I was reading a cheap romance complete with a predictable plot and shallow characters. I finshed the book but it was a chore. The characters were mildly interesting but I couldn't really relate to any of their trials and tribulations.
Rating: Summary: Promotes low self esteem & lack of character as virtues! Review: I think the reason so many people either loved or hated this book is that most of us could identify with some of the things that happened to the characters. I think the difference between the people that liked this book and those who didn't like myself, is what we look for in a book. I need to like the characters in the stories I read. I want to be able to respect them if not always agree with what they do. It was extremely disappointing to me that not once in this story did I feel a real connection with any of the characters. I think many of us have met people that have influenced our lives; but I was never able to understand the desire of either of theses characters to remain friends? I felt this entire novel dealt with an extremely unhealthy relationship between these two women. I strongly disagree with the reviewers that feel this is a must read! I think that Caitlin and Vix lacked self esteem and character. I don't really understand why some many people think we need to celebrate that?
Rating: Summary: EXTREMELY AMAZING! Review: UPON READING THIS BOOK YOU WILL FEEL AS IF YOU ACTUALLY TRAVELED TO THE HOLYLAND. THE PHOTOGRAPHY AND NARATION ARE BRILLIANT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. I ONLY WISH IT WAS STILL IN PRINT AS I WAS DEEPLY UPSET WHEN I HAD TO RETURN IT TO THE LIBRARY.
Rating: Summary: A Book You'll Want To Share Review: From a person who really hadn't read a book all the way through in quite some time I am here to tell you this book grabbed me and pulled me in. It had me sitting up crying at 5:30 in the morning. Judy Blume takes you through the life of a girl from a poor income home who is befriended by an unusual rich girl which changers her life forever. This book shows takes you through first loves, fond memories, tradagy, and the endurance of friendship. It is a must buy for any who would like to know the true meaning of friendship.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever! Review: When I first got this book I couldn't tell if I would like it or not. When I got to page 80 I was still kind of iffy, but after that I could not put the book down. It was a one sitting read and it was absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. Caitlin and Vix reminded me not only of myself at times, but of so many friends of mine that have come and gone. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever had a friend they considered their "summer sister".
Rating: Summary: A great book to share around. Review: This is a wonderful book for both women and teenage girls. I would love to have been able to have discussed it in a mother and daughter book club. I shared my copy with my mother who also loved the charaters in the book. We both shared our outrage at Catlin. I feel this is what Judy Blume wanted as we all have had someone in our lives like Catlin I waited to buy it in paperback and wished I hadn't. I will try to preserve my copy until my daughter is old enough to read it.
Rating: Summary: 18 summers in 3 days Review: I picked up the book to read on the beach when I went on vacation. I was a little hesitant because of the length. When I opened the book I could not put it down. I felt I was living the summers with Vix and Kaitlin. It was like they were living my summer as I laid on the beach. I laughed and cried right along with the girls. It was a book that I felt was close to young womens heart everywhere. It made you see many perspectives of life. How you could be on one end and your friend on the other and suddenly without warning you switch sides. It is a book I recommend for young women everywhere. A great book for the beach! Erin Pomakoy
