Rating: Summary: Wonderful, Painful, Realistic, Unforgettable Review: This book is for anyone past the age of 25 who still has a "best friend" from childhood and/or still remembers - vividly - the thrill and heartbreak of your first love. I cried my eyes out. I have read the ending section of this book at least 20 times, and come away with tears and a lump in my throat every time. The emotions described here are so realistic, so painful, that reading this book is actually more gut-wrenching than enjoyable. Thank you Judy Blume. I'd give you six stars if I could.
Rating: Summary: A little bit shallow ... Review: I bought this book because I was in the mood for an "easy read", something that didn't require much effort. This book was just that. But it fell short of my expectations in some ways. It seemed kind of shallow. I think younger readers might really enjoy this book -- it reads much like her books I read as a teenager! If you're looking for an easy read, try it out. Just don't expect too much!
Rating: Summary: Pass it by! Review: I bought this book thinking it would be a great story about Cape Cod (a favorite vacation spot of my family's) and found that it was merely trash. This book was a total disappointment. It was a book about teenage love and sex and, in my opinion, a total waste of time!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fantastic Review: I'm a junior in high school, and I'm an avid reader, not to mention difficult to impress. Judy Blume greatly impressed me with *Summer Sisters*. Being from Massachusetts myself and living in Missouri, I could identify with every single summer occurence, and every single detail of their friendship. I grew up reading Blume, and was eager to read this novel. I found it to be a delightful surprise~one of those books you want to read again. It has become one of my all~time favorites. One could argue that, yes, it was a bit sexually explicit in some parts, but that is why it is one of her adult~not childrens~books. It is a novel about more than sex~it's about the friendship of two young girls who became best friends, and grew up together. If you have a best friend, there are so many things to identify with in this novel. I could say so much more, but I don't want to spoil the novel for you. Worth the read, definitely. I'm so glad I have a copy of my own!
Rating: Summary: An Enjoyable Book Review: "Friends forever" This is something that many people say and are told. Do they really mean it? How can one be sure? What if your best friend said this to you, "I'll always be your friend, but I doubt you'll want to be mine after I tell you this..."? Is this a possible betrayal? Or even an end to your friendship that was supposed to last "forever"? This is what the book Summer Sisters by Judy Blume is about. A girl Cassandra becomes best friends with a girl named Vix. Throughout the book, Cassandra tests the limits and tries to find out just how good of friends the two of them really are. In order to do this, she crosses many boundaries and does things people wouldn't want their best friend to do. This was a well-written, enjoyable book. I loved reading it. Once I picked it up, I had a hard time setting it down. The book was filled with such terrific details that I couldn't help but keep reading until I finished. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes books about teenagers. Who is also interested in details about the obstacles they encounter while growing up. It describes them perfectly. I would also recommend it to anyone willing to read something different that they don't normally read. This book it definitely worth picking up!
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: This novel is the best book I've ever read. I have recommended it to all of my friends and we all fell in love with the great characters and plot. I would never consider myself a reader, but this book has opened my eyes to a huge world of books out there waiting to be read. My only regret is that I didn't read this book earlier!
Rating: Summary: An easy read Review: This is a good book to take on an airplane. It's not great literature, but it's a fun read.
Rating: Summary: Summer Sisters Review: Any woman who has had a best friend will enjoy this story of two girls from different worlds who become best friends. The shared laughter, heartbreaks and other problems of growing up are all there for the reader to experience all over again. This book is a quick read that will take you back to your own teenage years and the struggle to become a woman that we all must go through. Ms. Blume has a knack for bringing back memories both good and bad. Read this book and enjoy the relationship between Vix and Caity. These two will surprise you.
Rating: Summary: Loved this book... Review: I started reading Blume's books when I was 12 years old, starting with the Fudge series. I just bought this book last week and started reading it at 1 am this morning, and finished it at 6 am. I was captivated by how alive her characters were and how much it reminded me of myself and my best girlfriend from childhood. This book made me laugh and cry. In fact, I emailed my childhood friend and told her I would send her a copy. I highly recommend it. Just goes to show that Blume still has it!
Rating: Summary: A real page turner Review: Being as that I do not especially enjoy reading, this book was probably the first book I've read for pleasure in about a year. I am only 14 so I often have to read books assigned to me. On a recent vacation I took a risk and decided to start reading Summer Sisters, recomended to me by my best friend. While reading this book I couldn't stop my mind from trying to think of me as one of the charectors and my best friend as the other. This book left me laughing and crying at the same time. Now, two weeks later I still cant go a day without remembering the dynamic charactors, Vix and Caitlin. Judy Blume has certaintly done it again, another easy, yet exciting read. Definatly good for teenagers.
