Rating: Summary: Interesting twist at the end... a quick read Review: As a woman of color with a great interest in sisterhood and friendship..this book was not a disappointment. I loved the twist and turns and all of the real life things that both caitlin and vix shared. I would recommend it to all. I especially recommend it to those who have been blessed with spending any amount of time on Martha's Vineyard. I loved knowing about a lot of the places that were mentioned. I have a summer sister and 6 biological sisters...so this was a good treat for me!
Rating: Summary: a great book Review: i bought this book during the summer and i wasn't sure if i would like it or not. i am very picky about books but this book was really good! i couldn't put the book down. this is the third time i am reading it. i was kind of dissapointed about how the book ended, but it was a really good book over all. i think anyone who likes love, and friendship books should definately read Summer Sisters by Judy Blume.
Rating: Summary: Loved Judy Blume as a girl, love her as an adult Review: I grew up on all of Ms. Blume's books because she poignantly captured the plethora of emotions, joys and heartaches of puberty and early adolesence. Ms. Blume manages to maintain this keen insight applying it over a longer time period to capture the story of a girl becoming a woman. I thought the book was great and highly recommend it! A very fast read, you can finish it in one sitting
Rating: Summary: A very cheap novel Review: When I first had "Summer Sisters" in my hands, I couldn't wait to start reading it. But when I started reading it, little by little, I began to feel as if I was reading one of those cheap novels with Fabio hadlf naked on the cover. Summer Sisters has a lot of sex, lots, and lots of it, and the worst of all, is that it disgusts you. The two main characters, when they are 12, rub their private parts against each other to feel "the power", as it says in the book. - I wanted to vomit! It is a very cheap novel. Don't read it.
Rating: Summary: Perfection- The best Book I have ever read Review: This book is amazing. It is a book that every woman should read. I was sad that it had to come to an end when I was reading it, and no other book seems quite as good as Summer Sisters was. I am anxiously anticipating her next novel.
Rating: Summary: WOW! SUMMER SISTERS IS GREAT! Review: I'm probably the only person under 16 to write a review on this page so far so I will enlighten you on my thoughts on this book. It was great! I loved Judy Blume when I was 9 and 10 and now that I am 14 someone told me to read this book but said it was a bit "innapropriate" but hey i thought i live in an innaporopriate world and I'm an innopropriate person! So I picked it up and read it in one lazy Sunday afternoon. I don't usually read very fast so that goes to show how awesome this book was. It really reminded me of my best friend and I in the beginning and I sure hope our friendship doesnt turn out like Vix's and Caitlin's! The characters were really real to me and it was easy to idntify with Vix(the main character). I urge you to go to the bookstore and buy it! Don't just check it out at the library, because you ill wnat to read it twice. I have already passed this book around to a lot of people and everyone has loved it! It isn't appropriate for girls younger than 15 or 16 but any girl 13-14 would still enjoy it. There are a few "scenes" every once and a while and the language can get a tad bit offensive but it is still awesome! PLEASE GO READ IT!
Rating: Summary: Blume for grown-ups Review: Heartbreaking, funny and fascinating all at once. If you loved Blume as an adolescent, if you read "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret" about a hundred times, if you were coming of age in the late '70's -early '80's, do yourself a huge favor and read this book. You will ache for Victoria and struggle to understand, sometimes struggle to like, Caitlin. The dynamics between these two characters are fascinating. I was not able to put this book down once I began reading it.The supporting cast of characters is equally fascinating, and you will love how they all meld together in a wonderful mosaic of personalities. The setting of Martha's Vineyard is perfect for the story and the characters, and in fact becomes a character in itself. Blume fans, don't miss this. Give yourself this book for Christmas--you won't be sorry. And Ms. Blume, if you're reading this, hurry up and write the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Summer Sisters By: Judy Blume Review: People who read Summer Sisters will notice that this is a book about life and how faith brought these two girls together. Blume who is known for witing children stories decided to write this book and couple of others mainly about life. I think about anyone can relate to one of their closest friends. While you read this you will probably find yourself laughing because of this funny things you forgot you did. This is a story about two girls whose names are Caitlin and Victoria (Vix). Caitlin is a new girl whose parents gets dicorved and moves to Vix's school. She becomes the popuarlist girl in school and everyone wants to becomes her friend. Vix is very quiet and timid and is catch by suprise when Caitlin asks her to go spend the summer with her at her fathers's Vineyard. Vix agrees and the book talks about their expierences they go through and how they become summer sisters. Vix goes back every summer after that until they grow into adults. Blume does a good job at coming out showing her metaphors. Which is that everyone has a friend and shares memories throughout their lives that they will never forget and be able to cherish those memories forever. Also, friends are always there for you for when you fall into your deepest holes or when you reach the top of the mountains. They are always there to give you a shoulder to cry on and help you make the best descisons possible. Everyone learns throughout this story how precious friends are and you can never live without them. Blume uses beautiful vivid imagery and when I read this story I felt like I was the person living in the moment. She really gives you a vivid idea to what each of the characters were feeling and what was going through their minds. She really knows how to paint the perfect picture in the readers mind so they makes sure to pay attention to the smallest details. "In Venice, Caitlin meetsher at the train station. Caitlin is all in white, her hair tucked inside her white-brimmed straw hat. She's wearing huge designer shadesand is carrying a second hat for Vix, who's bolining in a blue denim maternity dress." "She sat back and worshiped from afar as the others fought over who would get to be her partner, who would share desks with her... Want to come away with me this summer? Vix was wearing worn bell-bottom and a jucie stained purple T-shirt, her dark hiar pulled back into a sloppy ponytail." Blme did a very good job at making her characters very quirky especially Caitlin. She made her to be very outgoing carefree and totally opposite of Vix. Caitlin never set her mind on anything to long. Instead of going to college like Vix she went on a tour to travel the world. Never took on any reponsibilties and whenever she wanted someone come visit her she would send a letter with a ticket like, "Celebrate the Big Three-O With Me!" Vix is the total opposite who like to go to Harvard and lead a regular life. It become apparent throughout this book that both girls are total opposites but still manage to stay best friends. This book I would recommend to mostly women because there is no way that men could relate to this book. I think young teenager girls would enjoy reading this because this would be a good lesson on friendship and teach them a lot about life and the things they might expierence later in life. The plot is not difficult to follow at all and it has been one of The Nre York Times BestSeller for several months. I would also recommend setting aside enough time dto read the entire book once you start because you will not be able put it down.
Rating: Summary: Close to home Review: This book really hit me close to home. While I was growing up I had a "summer sister". As I read along in this book I found myself releiving everything in my own past. This book made me feel as if I was the actual character so bad that I cried for 5 minutes. Judy Blume did an excellent descripition of showing how true best friends can be, not the typical fight over who has better clothes. Thumbs up to Judy's exquisite writting style.
Rating: Summary: Perfect! Review: Okay, it's not high-brow literature, but who really cares? It's a beautiful easy read - not at all bogged down with literary devices and the stilted pretenses of an angry writer (John Irving maybe?)! I think any woman that reads this book will be reminded of her own personal Caitlin - the best friend of her youth. Small betrayals that still bring tears to your eyes. _Summer Sisters_ will likely become a favourite of yours, but just remember to stick it through the first chapter, which I found quite discouraging. It pays off!
