Rating: Summary: Good Beach Chair Read Review: I, like many of the reviewers, have read all of Judy Blume's previous works mostly as a child and was similarly entertained by this adult novel. As always, her sexual content takes over for plot in some parts of the book. Some of the sexual scenes would have been better left out as I don't think they added any value to the relationships developed. The ending was a bit of a disappointment ...the transition was not very smooth. However, overall the book was a quick, easy, entertaining read and I read it all in my beach chair one afternoon. All said and done and I'd recommend it for mindless entertainment.
Rating: Summary: Judy's audience grew up but her stories didn't Review: This book was advertised as being for adults - I think not. It's about a friendship between two girls coming of age. A book for teens, perhaps, but not grown women. The rags-to-riches luck of Vix & her happy-ever-after was too unrealistic. A fast beach read - if you're in the mood for something light, otherwise buy the book for your teen daughter.
Rating: Summary: Summer Sisters is an excellent read!!! Review: I literally could not put this book down. The friendship shared between Vix and Caitlin brought me back to my own childhood. Judy Blume truly captures the ambience of adolescence. This is one I could read over and over again. Thank You, Judy Blume!!!
Rating: Summary: beach book Review: It's all in the expectations. If you're looking for a cute (but predictable) plot, quick (and unchallenging) read, this is enjoyable. If you're looking for a real book, forget it. This is a dressed-up version of a romance novel.
Rating: Summary: I could not put this book down! Review: I loved Judy Blume as a child and I loved this book as much! I needed a book to take on a camping trip and I could not put this one down! It was wonderful and brought back lots of memories for me spending summers on the Cape. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome... Review: This is the first novel that has been able to keep my interest for more that 5 min., in what seems like forever. I am a young reader... who usually reads magizines. But as soon as I picked up this book, I could not put it down... and stayed up till 4am to finish it! I think Judy Blume has flourished as an adult writer. And I've also enjoyed this novel more than anything else I've ever read from her work so far. Thumbs up! :) How can I not love this book?
Rating: Summary: Simply Excellent. Review: Summer Sisters is a provocative, endearing, and simply excellent story of 2 girls through their youth and adulthood. This is one of those books that you can't put down. Judy Blume always manages to touch the reader...this is definitely no ordinary book.
Rating: Summary: Graphic Yet Compelling Piece of work. Review: Although this is not your average Judy Blume Book, (like Superfudge or Are you there God? It's me Maragret) Judy Blume outdoes herself in a rather sexually graphic, yet heartwarming story about 2 childhood friends named Caitlin and Vix. Throughout this book, the reader feels for Vix as she's going through many obstacles in here life. Through each page, you the reader will hang on this emotional roller coaster ride of Vix's life as she faces struggles all the way up to her adult years. The ending is unpredicable but not as enjoyable as I though it would be. Still it is a great novel and I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Waited for paperback-glad I did Review: As an avid reader of Blume's books, I was so excited to see this book on the shelves. I waited until it came out in paperback and I am glad I did. The characters were not very well developed and left me hoping that their story lines would improve. The ending was very predictable and Vix certainly did not understand the other friendships that she found with her college friends who were seriously in need of more plot. Overall, it was an easy read, a summer read, but not the read I expected from one of my favorite adolescent authors.
Rating: Summary: I don't believe in throwing books away, but.... Review: this one went into the trash. I was very disappointed. I read and loved all of Blume's books as a child and so when I was in need of a vacation book, and had no idea what I wanted, I picked up Summer Sisters. I was distracted by the poor quality of the writing, technically speaking, although it did improve as the book went on. More importantly, I found that the story line was weak, and Blume was stretching to entertain her audience rather than augment the story with her excessive, redundant sex scenes.Contrary to another reader's opinion, I was not impressed with Blume's description of the book's settings, or with her development of the characters. To sum it up, I don't recommend this book. Unless you are looking for a mindless and quick read, spend your literary dollars elsewhere.
