Rating: Summary: Much better than the summer's hit - "Bridget Jones Diary" Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Judy Blume had all her facts right about New Mexico and I'm sure Martha's Vineyard. I enjoyed reading about both places and mostly enjoyed the story of the two girls Caitlin and Vix. Even though I am 45, I could relate to my younger days as a teenager similar to the story. I could not put this book down.
Rating: Summary: not very good Review: This book dissapointed me alot. I read many great reveiws of it, and the book was really dissapointing. It didn't have any depth to it, and I thought it should have been much more 'real.' All the sex was very dissapointing, I felt like that was what the book was about, instead of a story of friendship.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read Review: I could not put this book down!!! I read it in 24 hours. It's a great "adult" story written in the voice of my pre-teen years. I'm 29 now and want to re-read all her younger books. I'm also eager to read her other adult books
Rating: Summary: Reading Summer Sisters is like coming home to an old friend. Review: Like many others, I grew up reading Judy Blume's books. While looking for books to take to the beach, I found Summer Sisters and purchased it. I started to read it just to get a taste of it and found that I couldn't put it down. Reading this book was like coming home to an old friend. While I never had a friend as close as Caitlin and Vix were, I did have several close friends who I wondered about as I read the book. I could see so much of myself in Vix, it gave me hope for my own future. This book is Judy Blume at her best -- no one understands the angst of growing up and coming of age like her!!
Rating: Summary: Simplistic - Like watching and episode of Melrose Place Review: Maybe my expectations were too high, but the story of the Summer Sisters was one dimensional and disappointing. This book is a quick read and kept my interest most of the time, but the lack of character development and real emotion caused the book to fall short. Also, the detailed description of each sexual encounter reminded me that it would have easier to watch an episode of "Melrose Place" than to read this 400 page melodrama. Too bad - I'd hoped for better.
Rating: Summary: This book was one step above pre-teen! Waste of my money Review: This book was a fairy tale for one, and I never want to grow up for another...... The most real feeling in this book was when Nathan died, and his character which probably took 7 pages. I kept waiting for more depth, then I realized most times Ms. Blume's world is "teen" oriented. I would say go back "home" where your more comfortable.
Rating: Summary: A Real Look into the Complicated lives of Girls. Review: I'm 13 years old, and I couldn't put the book down. Most adults would think girls like it because of the sexual encounters of Vix and Caitlin, but I loved it so much because it really dives deep into the complicated friendship of two preteen, confused girls. Both characters seem strong and sure of what they want, but if you really think about it, they are just lostin the world of love, hate and sex. I think this is a really thought provoking book, which I highly reccomend.
Rating: Summary: The Best-Seller List??? Review: I was very disappointed with this novel. The story line had such potential, but Blume relied too much on cheap sex instead of developing her characters. Blume took the easy way out.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books of the summer! Review: Summer Sisters had a lot of competition this summer with so many great novels out. However, I am adding this one to my all time favorite list. The characters suck you in and won't let go. I found that I couldn't put this one down. It's been a long time since I've had a book touch me this much. It brought back what it felt like to be young and in love. It also reminded me of those friends who touch your soul and change you forever. It addresses the reality of friendship through good and bad times and reminds us that friendship is often bittersweet with many facets. I found this book funny and tragic and wonderful... You must try this one out!
Rating: Summary: A fascinating book! Well developed characters. Loved it! Review: I just completed this book and found it compelling. I couldn't put it down. I could easily relate to Vix. I think everyone has known someone like her friend who seemed so mysterious. In the end, even though we may envy these "free spirits," we realize, as did Vix, that these are not happy people; actually quite tragic. Judy, please write another book soon!
