Summary: Inspirational, touching, and just plain fabulous
Review: I was so moved by this book. I saw the movie first, loved it, cried myself to pieces, and read the book, which I loved even MORE (which is amazing, since I loved the movie so much). I read this book in a day, it is impossible to put down. Catherine Ryan Hyde does a wonderful job of writing it, twisting in and out between characters, and giving you tons to think about when you're done. Like all brilliant books, this one lingers in your mind long after you read it. It is amazing, brilliant, unbelievably sad, and just plain wonderful. Please read it.

Summary: Read Something Else Instead!!
Review: "Pay it Forward" wasn't very good. The story was saccharine sweet and had very unrealistic dialogue. A great example of the horrible dialogue was when Trevor referred to Chelsea Clinton as a "major babe". I'm sorry, but I just don't believe that most 13-year-old boys think of Chelsea Clinton as a "major babe". Oh, and every other word out of Trevor's mouth was "cool". My teacher is cool, my project is cool, Bill Clinton is cool, and every damn thing is cool.

Another problem with this book was the love story between two of the main characters. They just didn't seem like they were really in love.

Summary: This book gives hope
Review: I read this book in one day. I enjoyed it so much and even dreamed about it that night. It really inspired me and want to do something for someone to see if maybe it would work. I appreciated that the plan got off to a rocky start which seemed realistic. The characters were a bit shallow - Trevor a little to good to be true, mother a little to typical, teacher typical chip on his shoulder man but it didn't stop me from enjoying the story.

Summary: Horrible Writing Kills Story
Review: Pay It Foward could have been a decent book. It really could have. Unfortunately, the only people that enjoy it now are people that aren't completely literate.

The writing is bad. There is no other way to say it. Anyone that passed high school english could formulate more coherent sentences. It seems like the author wrote one draft, put it on the fridge for a few days, and had it published. It is poorly put together, the characterization is weak, and even the plot is all over the place.

You can tell the people that made the movie thought so too because they changed around the entire story so it would make some sense.

Don't bother with the book. It is a waste of paper.

Summary: Changing the World
Review: The novel "Pay it Forward" is a story about one extraordinary boy. This young twelve-year-old boy set out to change the world. Trevor seemed ordinary on the outside, just like any other normal boy his age except that on the inside he possessed a remarkable heart.

Trevor had a difficult childhood. His father left him, and his mother was an alcoholic struggling to better her life. Trevor's mother was an important person in his life; he adored his mother. She worked hard to support him and give him a loving home. Trevor feels that his mother Arlene would be happy in a good relationship, and he sets out to find her the perfect man.

Trevor's whole story started with one teacher, left scarred and bitter from the war, that assigned an extra credit project that was supposed to change the world. The teacher had given the same assignment out every year and never yielded and results like the one he did this time.

Trevor came up with a plan that was so simple it just seemed to easy to work. His idea was to perform a favor that was out of the ordinary for three people. Instead of having those people pay you back they were supposed to "pay it forward" to three more people. It was intended to spread eventually to the entire world. It was very similar to a living chain letter based on selfless acts of kindness. This young boy believed in the goodness of everyone and set out to change the world.

Trevor helped three people but seemed to have failed in every attempt. The real question is did his idea really fail? The fruit of his labor was unbelievable. Trevor had not realized that his little extra credit homework could ever become something so wonderful and so big.

This story is truly touching. It is extremely interesting especially in the format. The author uses different perspectives to tell her story. She includes letters, Trevor's diary entries, as well as first and third person narratives. This keeps the readers attention because the book doesn't get boring. You always have a different point of view to hear from. This story makes you wish that all the goodness described really existed in people. Trevor's dream makes you hope that something like this would really happen. This book was enjoyable, a book that I would recommend it to anyone because it really has a profound affect your heart. This book is extremely interesting and I couldn't put it down until I finished it, I guarantee you won't be able to either.

Summary: much better than the movie, of course
Review: This is such a wonderful story, it has everything. The characters are amazing. My copy of this book is currently being passed around my office. It just gives you the feeling that you can do something important, that one life can have great impact on many others.

Summary: A eloquent concept, beautifully written
Review: Pay It Forward is based around an absolutely stunning concept of paying favors forward instead of back, thus creating a rapor among strangers. The concept itself was stunningly simple and very well carried out by young Trevor.

The novel was refreshingly written from the interesting perspective of a journalist who originally had nothing to do with the Pay It Forward concept. It was a collection of his musings, interviews with the key characters in the book that had obviously been taken after the fact, and Trevor's diary entries. It was littered with the thoughts of the journalist--the most inspiring and shocking being the anecdote of his broken-down car, the good samaritan, and the shocking revolution that something had caused this generosity to be a common occurance. From that point on, the book had me hooked and without the ability to put it down.

Written any other way, this book would not have been as inspiring. It was written from a point of view that I could understand and sympathize with--the outsider point of view. Had the book been written entirely in third-person, it would not have had the profound impact on me that it did.

A friend of mine bought the book and passed it on to me. I enjoyed it emensely, leading me to purchase a hardcover copy for my small collection of inspiring books. Since then, I have lent my copy out to many people, all of whom loved it.

Summary: Pretty Good for a Teenager
Review: At the age of 14, I consider reading a punishment, not a thrill. But, while rading this book i came to points where i didn't want to stop reading. That was a first for me. I recommend this book for a teen or young adult. It was good and sad at the end. it teaches you that even one person can change the world.

Summary: Pay it foward
Review: I would recommend Catherine Ryan Hyde's Pay It Foward. This book is organized in a very neat way. Each chaptr tells about whats going on in each character's lives. It sows what one person can realy do for the world and how a person can change it. Another thing is some people can relatte to Trevor's mom's drinking problem. There can be some people you know that moght need some help. This book can tach you a lot about caring for people.
