Rating: Summary: My favorite book of all time Review: I first read this book when I was 14. It captivated me then and still does. I've lost count how many times I've read it; I read this first copy literally to shreds! The historical accuracy and detail interwoven with the story of Amber St. Clare is astounding...Ms. Windsor's research is impeccable. This book made me love all things English and awakened in me an interest in the British monarchy throughout history. My dearest wish is to visit England and London some day and to visit the sites mentioned in the book. I do have to admit I was severely disappointed with the ending of the book. If there was a sequel, I would appreciate knowing the title because I would love to read it. And for those who may be interested in viewing the movie, don't bother. This book cries out to be made into a mini-series! Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
Rating: Summary: Forever Amber will be around forever Review: I first read Forever Amber about 10 years ago and was flabergasted at the historical detail entailed in the story. Generally books that contain this much history can tend to be a tough read, sometimes boring. Not the case with Forever Amber. The characters are rich and true to the period, the background setting is exciting and realistic. The main character Amber St. Clare is certainly exciting, maddening, funny, and outragious. She is a survivor that you can not help but admire despite her flaws.I have just finished reading this book once again, which, for me is very unusual. I am an avid read of historical books but there are not many that I make a point of keeping on my bookshelve. This one is there to stay in my collection! I would appreciate some HELP in finding out if Kathleen Winsor did write a sequel to Forever Amber, and if she did what is the name of this book? Possible sources for tracking books out of print, etc.? Any information would be helpful. Thank-you.
Rating: Summary: THe life, loves and times of Amber St Clare........ Review: Kathleen Winsor's 1940's novel of Amber St Clare and Restoration England remains one hell of a book. She runs away from her adopted parents and village with a handsome Cavalier whose love she will pursue throughout her eventful life. 1660's London springs a multitude of up and down surprises for the novel's irrepressible heroine. The historical accuracy : the court and loves of Charles the Second, the theatre life, the plague and the fire of London, is particularly entertaining. Personally think that this book shadows "Gone with the Wind" - and it calls to be made into a TV mini-series
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I'm 14 and just read this amazing book last week. It was so wonderful. I read Gone with the wind and the sequel Scarlett and I must say Forever Amber is right up there. Amber's love for Bruce and his rebellion(in a way) draged and still drags at my heart. I so wish there were a sequel. Forever Amber needs a sequel. I recommend this to anyone! Happy(yet wonderfully streesful) reading!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I first read this book at about 15 years old after my mother gave it to me. She too had read it when she was a young girl. It's a fascinating tale that you will never forget. Excellent.
Rating: Summary: Forever Amber - forever Review: I too read this book as a teenager (7times then) and then as I grew up lost track of it. I am delighted to find it again and reread it. I don't like romance stories, however, Forever Amber is more than romance. It's an adventure story, a story of determination and a story of history. I reccommend this book to anyone - however, no one is going to borrow my book. They have to get their own.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS STORY! Review: I FIRST READ THIS WHEN I WAS A TEEN-AGER, AND I AM NOW 43 YEARS OLD! I HAVE LOOKED HIGH AND LOW FOR ANOTHER COPY AND I AM SO THRILLED TO HAVE FOUND IT HERE! I WA SO ENTHRALLED WITH AMBER THAT I NAMED MY DAUGHTER AFTER HER. SHE IS NOW 22! THIS STORY STAYS WITH YOU A LIFETIME!
Rating: Summary: Forever Amber Review: This is by far the best book I have ever read. It is an epic novel much like Gone With The Wind, with characters just as unforgettable. The book reads like an action packed movie, and you just can`t wait to get to the following page to find out just what has happened to Amber!
Rating: Summary: forever amber Review: My mother read this book when she was just 15. after finishing it, she promised to name her first daughter after the spitfire Amber St. Clair. When I was 13, I decided it was time to read it. It took me 2 months to do so, but it was a great accomplishment. Since then, my book has become tattered and discolored from much use. It is even held together with a rubberband! I have read the book at least 6 times and have no intention of retiring it to the top shelf of my book case. I recommend this book to everyone, young and old. It is truly a timeless classic and will remain forever in my heart, right beside Gone With the Wind.
Rating: Summary: METICULOUSLY WRITTEN Review: This book is one of the last century's great pieces of fiction, a brilliantly written account of an English guttersnipe's rise to eloquence. Kathleen Winsor's book was immensely popular when it was first published in the mid-forties. The beautiful movie star Ava Gardner was caught reading it once by her intellectually brilliant bandleader husband Artie Shaw (who dismissed it as trash); after the two divorced, Shaw married author Winsor much to Gardner's dismay and fury! Justly famous for it's earthiness and realism, the author writes with impeccable attention to historical detail and this book is highly recommended!
