Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: Michael is an outstanding writer. The characters could live next door--and do, in your mind.Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: WOW! WHAT A BOOK! Review: After Crazy Ladies, I couldn't imagine how Michael Lee West could do any better - but OH MY GOD! Did she ever! She Flew The Coop is an amazing book filled with amazing yet believable characters. And while the bulk of the book deals with tragedy and pain, it's truly a tribute to the strength of the human spirit and the silver lining behind every storm cloud in life. After this book I decided to read another author's book instead of American Pie by Michael Lee West (just to give myself a break and something to look forward to) but I couldn't sit through the other book just knowing I had another Michael Lee West sitting on my shelf! She is truly one the great contemporary authors!
Rating: Summary: I didn't want this book to end. Review: This book was like eating gumbo, you never know what's going to up next, the details mingle to create a memorable experience,it's spicy and full of texture and you never want it to end. She Flew The coop is one of the best books I have read this year. I am sure it will become one of my all time favorites. The characters became my friends and for the first time ever, I saddened as I saw that I was nearing the end of the book. I would love a sequel! If you don't mind a book that's frank in its sexuality, do yourself a favor and read this!
Rating: Summary: A Jewel...Funny, Sad & Provocative Review: I picked up this book because I was intrugued by a novel "Concerning Life, Death, Sex and Recipes in Limoges, Louisiana." Sounded like quite a combination. And it was. I loved this novel of life, love, neighbors, oversexed ministers, town trollops, and women's changing roles in America in the mid-20th Century. Funny as hell. In fact, I underlined passages and go back now and then for a laugh. But sad, too. And provocative. If you are from Smalltown, America, you will know these marvelously written characters. Hail, Michael Lee West!
Rating: Summary: Don't Miss This Book and More Review: My 16 year old daughter has read this book three times, and I have read it twice already. I want to recommend it to those of you who read and enjoy the books of Fannie Flagg, Rebecca Wells, Lorna Landvick, and Mark Childress. They're all different, so don't expect the same old same old. But you CAN count on laughing out loud and having your eyes tear up.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book! Review: I hated having this book end. It's by far one of the best books I've read in quite awhile. My copy is now going on rounds to friends and co-workers. So far, all have loved it, too. We plan on reading Crazy Ladies for our bookclub next month. Hope it's as good as this one! I HIGHLY recommend it. This book is on my top ten list that includes many classics.
Rating: Summary: WAY TO GO VANGIE Review: I was extremely happy with the decision Vangie made regarding Henry and stuck with it. The punishment to Rev. Kirby was justified however jail time is what he really deserved. All in all it was a great book and I am anxious to start my next book by Michael Lee West.
Rating: Summary: This book just made me feel, well, icky! Review: There's no other way to say it! First I picked up American Pie, based totally on it's eye catching cover. Loved it. Rushed to get Crazy Ladies. Loved it. She Flew...just made me sick. If it would have been my first reading of West I wouldn't have ever read more. The book centers on a minister molesting a child and basically getting away with it. YUK! After a bath, I felt much better.
Rating: Summary: A Reader's Feast Review: Reading this book is like eating a five star feast, only you aren't stuffed at the end. Quite the contrary, you don't want it to end. I love love LOVED this novel.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great. Review: While I enjoyed reading this book, I did not think it was quite as good as 'Crazy Ladies', which I loved. I felt that too many characters told the story, and for that reason I didn't really get to know them. The story should of been told by Vangie, DeeDee, Edith and mabye Sophie. I didn't think Sophie added that much to they story, and found my self skimming over those pages. I think there were as many as 10 people telling this story. I didn't think the story lines were developed that well, with the exception of Vangie/DeeDee/Henery. She should of stuck with only a few story lines. I think she could of done more with Olive, she was the main character in the begining with this hugh problem, and she was sort of forgotten, only mentioned a few times. There were a lot off loose ends in this book (What happened to Fannie? what about Emmit? Cal and Edith, DeeDee's return to Limgoes would of been interesting) It was that way with a lot of the story. I know this sounds nit picky, I just read Crazy Ladies, so my expectations were a little high. Besides that, I did enjoy the book, and would recomend it.I liked the recipies, thought that was a cute touch. I am looking foward to reading American Pie.
