Summary: Gripping thriller with some unnecessary character buildup!!
Review: I am starting to be a fan of John J. Nance after reading "Headwind." That book was fast-paced from beginning to end. It was like reading two books in one. Pandora's clock is good but not as compelling as Headwind. I felt that the story was coming from watching all those air disaster movies from the past.

Pandora's Clock is about a biological virus that has infected a Boeing 747.
The story focuses on two parts of this deliema.
One: If the virus is contagious, will it infect the population
Two: What do we do with the passenger?

In flight, the pilot of the Boeing 747 has to decide what to do when he finds out that his aircraft might be infected. But on the ground, the CIA suspects the aircraft as a threat. Now what does the pilot do? Does he follow orders or does he take things in his own hands.

This is a gripping thriller that will have you turning the pages to find out what happens next. In beginning it might take some time to get into the story, but by the end it would have seem like time passed fast. I gave it a four star because the story moved and the overall book was good. I would have given it a 5, but there was some unnecessary talk with passengers that have nothing to do with the plot. I felt like I was reading a book version of past air disaster movies like "Airport", where there was unnecessary slowing down to create emotion with the passengers. Stick to the main characters and we will decide how the passengers would fell.

Summary: I was left expecting a little more from this story.
Review: I bought this book after being intrigued by the ads for the miniseries on TV, which I missed due to work. I'm a big fan of Michael Crichton (I believe I've read "The Andromeda Strain over a dozen times) and the techno aspects of his books. I also enjoyed the movie "Breakout," and was looking forward to another "viro-thriller."

Unfortunately, this story left me wanting. It did start well, immediately captivating me while reading Prof. Helm's adventure in the Bavarian forest. It kept up a good pace until the last quarter of the book, when it disappointingly became mediocre and predictable. Mr. Nance also seemed to introduce new characters on a whim, just because he needed them at that certain point in the story line. How many government departments and companies does Dr. Rusty Sanders have friends working at? I was also disappointed that Mr. Nance did not immerse more into the technical aspects of the story, detailing with greater accuracy the mechanics of virus infections or the workings of the aircraft and other equipment, along the lines of Tom Clancy. Especially considering that his character development did not enable me to have feelings for any of story's main characters.

I would say the story is acceptable as a time filler, such as while on an airplane (or, maybe not considering its plot). Not one I would ever consider reading for a second time.

Summary: Excellent read!
Review: I could not put this book down. Every time I am on a plane, or even see a plane for that matter, I can't help but wonder "What if...". It really makes you think twice about all modes of public transportation.

The next time you find yourself suddenly feeling sick, think back to the last 24-48 hours to all of the places, faces and things you've touched and then ask, "what if...".

Summary: fast moving and entertaining
Review: I enjoyed the fast moving plot but was very disappointed with the ending. I had the impression the author just got tired of writing and just went ahead and wrapped it up. Over all it was pretty good

Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! BETTER THAN DEMILLE'S MAYDAY!
Review: I have not heard of Nance before but the gist at the back of the book instantly caught my attention & curiosity. After reading it, I must admit, Nance's Pandora is much better than DeMille's Mayday, although both had a similar plot --- an airline in distress. I just found Nance's story & characters with more depth than DeMille's. & even the "anatagonists" were not all evil, despite their own ulterior motives. Even Yuri was a character to admire inspite of the role he played. Of course, I was routing for Holland all the way. At the back of my mind, I knew that it would have a good & happy ending but I was not expecting the twist (I won't mention it any longer for those who have not read it yet), which made it even better.

Summary: Excellent!, very descriptive and full of action
Review: I love the way Nance mixes aviation, secret government plots, and national burocracies. His writing style is very detailed. The plot involving the CIA is full of exciting twists, turns, and wild goose chases that build excelent tension, however if you do not follow it closely you will be easily confused. I, being an aviation enthusiast myself, found the aeronautical aspects of the book to be very thrilling, although somtimes a bit unbelievable. Over all it is an excellent read.

Summary: An exciting and awesome adventure
Review: I read this book for a project for school and I was afraid it would not be that interesting, but it is very interesting! I read it in a week. John Nance is a good author. I really did not want to read a book about biowarfare or airplanes but I'm glad I read this one. John Nance is a very talented writer, I had fun reading this book! If you want a good, exciting and adventurous book then read Pandora's Clock.

Summary: I couldn't put that book down !
Review: I thought Pandora's Clock was one of the best book's I've ever read before. I just loved it because.. In class one day, the bell rang and I was upset because I thought I had just reached the turning point of the story.. Turns out it was only the begging of the turning point ! I had my nose in the book every minute I could. I just HAD to know what was going to happen next.

Summary: Pandora's Clock
Review: I'm not a fan of thrillers, and found this one to be typical of the genre. I have to admit, I was worried that I wouldn't even be able to finish the book when I ran across this unintentionally hilarious sentence in chapter four, when the diplomat's assistant sees the tall, broad-shouldered pilot for the second time: "The same vibrations that had shuddered through her back in Frankfort erupted again now with seismic force..." Fortunately, I didn't notice any other writing along those lines, although the author did seem to be obsessed with beautiful, busty women. It's funny the way that male authors so often write about some average-looking, over-the-hill guy who ends up with a drop-dead gorgeous sweet young thing. Personally I would have found this book a lot more fun if the pilot had been a middle aged woman and the diplomat's assistant had been an Orlando Bloom clone!
