Rating: Summary: Once a Thief Review: I don't know who Ms. Giggles is but if she wants to read romance then she needs to go for it and leave the mysteries to those who like them. She apparently wrote a bad review about Kay Hooper and this book. This is a great book, full of suspense, and I like the character Quinn. I like her books, the plots are good and it's hard for me to put them down.
Rating: Summary: reissue Review: I have not read this bood per se however it sounds like a reissue of Hooper's "men of mysteries" past series that she wrote for Loveswept. It was originally 4 books and it appears they have been condensed down to two. I feel that when a book is reworked normally it loses something. I rated it one star because it wouldn't let me post without a rating.
Rating: Summary: no story and no ending Review: I have to agree with those readers who are insulted by the poor writing in this latest effort by Kay Hooper. In addition to there being very little plot we are expected to shell out [more of our hard earned cash] to find the conclusion of this story. If Hooper wanted to receive [profit] for her book it would have been more honest had she produced one volume and allowed readers to decide wether to pay for her story. She might also have let readers know that this is a reissue. I will not pay for the second installment of this reissued garbage.
Rating: Summary: Confused and bewildered.... Review: I like Kay Hooper's books. The characters are always very interesting and the plots always keep me guessing. However, this time I was disappointed. It said this was a remake of one of her older books. Well, unfortunately, I didn't read the original and I feel as if I'm missing huge chunks of the story. Ms Hooper says she has expanded several characters that she found intriguing and totally deleted characters she felt were unimportant. Personally, I feel she has made a mistake somewhere in what she felt was important. There are characters that seem to have an important impact on the storyline, but you never meet them. Max for example. He's showing his huge collection of priceless artifacts in an attempt to lure some special someone into trying to steal it. Ok. Fine. Max is on his honeymoon, though, so instead of the story centering around him it centers around his employees. HUH? Why bother mentioning him at all then? We have scenes of him on the phone to his employees (Morgan and Wolfe) or scenes where he's having conversations with other mysterious characters that we never get to actually meet. The whole experience of reading this left me so confused I don't know if I'm ever going to finish this book. Well, I did finish the book. But I had to force myself to do it. I have to say now that I'm even more disappointed than ever. If I could give it less than 1 star, I would. The ending left me even more confused as to why this story even needed to be told. There is no real ending. The story just stops suddenly, making you suspect there is a sequel in the works. Thanks, but no thanks. It's headed to the used book store. I won't be buying a sequel either. And you can be sure that from now on I will read the covers of all Kay Hooper books very carefully just so I won't go through this again. As for the fact that this was condensed from 4 previous books... Why not just reprint the original stories and then maybe those of us who didn't read the originals wouldn't be so disappointed and confused?
Rating: Summary: Rewrite is lacking Review: I read the Men of Mysteries Past when they were released by Loveswept and loved Quinn from the instant he was introduced. I was happy to see his role and his heroine's role expanded in Once a Thief. I especially enjoyed seeing their psychic connection. The other nice thing about this book was we didn't have to read boring Max and boring Dinah from book 1 and I'm hopeful we won't be stuck reading about Jared and his heroine when Always a Thief is released. However, overall, I found Once a Thief to be disappointing. I didn't mind that much of the story focused on Wolfe and Storm. What I did mind was that Hooper closed the bedroom door and then picks up afterward. Her original Loveswepts had love scenes in them and I see no reason for the author to have cut them out. I also felt the story was hurried compared to the original. The biggest disappointment to me was reading Kay Hooper's forward in the beginning of the book. Perhaps it's just me, but it seems like she's embarrassed by her beginning as a romance writer. She shouldn't be embarrassed at all. While romance does not get the respect it deserves from others, I would hope the authors who write it would respect the intricate juggling act it takes to create a well-balanced and emotionally satisfying story. Right now, my biggest worry is that Hooper cut out the love scenes between Morgan and Quinn in Always a Thief. I'm so hoping I'm wrong.
Rating: Summary: "Fun Story" Review: I thought "Once a Thief" by fabulous writer, Kay Hooper was a lot of fun to read. I liked her colorful cast of characters and the storyline held my attention throughtout the entire reading of of the book. (Recommended Reading for anyone that enjoys a fun romantic suspense novel!)
Rating: Summary: What happened to ending one story before starting another? Review: I usually enjoy Kay Hooper's books, and I probably enjoyed this one the first time around. But this book has left me confused. Normally we have one set of primary characters whose story concludes at the end of the book. Who was the Primary here: Morgan and Quinn or Storm and Wolfe? And if I have to wait to next summer for the book to end, will I even care? I don't mind waiting a month or two, but six months is a bit long. Why not make just one little larger book with both sets of characters, but give me an ending, please.

Rating: Summary: Confusing & undeveloped Review: I'm trying to write a bit of a synopsis, but I just can't; there were a million things going on in this story and none of it seemed to come together very well. I guess that's the basis of my review. I am a huge fan of Kay Hooper and I really enjoyed her 'Shadows' & 'Evil' series, so I guess that increased my disappointment with 'Once A Thief'. There were too many characters (5-6 main ones) to allow for proper development and as a result I never found empathy for any of them. I also didn't get into the romantic sideline of the novel either, as I found the perky-cocky-arrogant-annoying security expert female protagonist extremely difficult to like. Sadly, there was also a lot of really smart people doing really stupid things: exhibit director telling reknown thief inside information, lying female crushed by wronged male's anger at discovering her lies, rich man playing games with half-brother for 'his own good'. Ugh. I think this was half a book and it kinda showed. My recommendation is to wait until the next one is available and read them both together. Maybe it will all come together better then. I gave this book 2 stars because the writing style is still good.
