Summary: Banks' Resume lands author job as voice of the people
Review: Resume is akin to The Great Gatsby in theme, focusing on beautiful wealthy young people graduating college and coming into the real world. Their vices and the problems of 21st century America come head to head and the question is, "Can they save themselves from themselves?"
Environmental descriptions transcend Resume into a period piece and a travelogue for Chicago and U.I.C. as well.
Even the opinionated will be pleased to let Banks speak for them in Resume.

Summary: Big ups to Banks
Review: "David Mamet" meets "Candace Bushnell" in this yuppie coming of age tale. Paul Max Banks's Résumé reveals more than just stereotypes, but actual people within the superficial Chicago party scene. Both his descriptions and dialogue are extremely phenomenal. Whether you're familiar or not with the book's painstakingly realistic Chicago setting, you'll be glad you read it cover to cover. For a quick, fun and thought provoking read, Résumé should unquestionably be your choice.

Summary: not that great
Review: After reading these reviews, I was eager to read this book. As a twenty-something Chicagoan who's lived in the city for four years now since college, I have to say it's not an accurate portrayal of our generation. True, many are unsatisfied in life, but they don't talk about it the way the Trixies and Chads in this book do. I found the conversations totally unrealistic, which is unfortunate since it's a dialogue-driven book. If these characters are supposed to be true Trixies and Chads, they wouldn't be so pseudo-intellectual. Maybe U of I journalists talk that way, but it's not representative of the typical 20-something. It gets 2 stars for its dead-on descriptions of Lincoln Park & Wrigleyville though.

Summary: When the Script Ends and the Play Continues
Review: At 150 pages in elderly-friendly print, War and Peace its not. However, if you are looking for a great story with interesting and complex characters this book is a great call. The tale is about routine 20-something characters struggling with the varied uncertainties of life outside the suburbs and college when, for the first time in their nascent lives, they are living on their own terms and facing the consequences. The book brings to the fore the fear and self doubt that accompanied the first generation for which a college diploma was no longer a guarantee to financial security. The characters meet this uncertainty with equal parts self indulgence and self pity, but remain likeable due to their spirit and transparency. The meaty description of single life in Chicago is both accurate and long overdue. You may find yourself wishing that the main relationship had more depth, but the same could probably be said for most of your own relationships at that age. In the end, the book leaves us with a thoughtful reflection on the frustration that comes with balancing the expectations we all have for our lives with the realities of our daily struggle to muddle through an uncertain world.

Summary: Resume is a hit!
Review: In reading the book, you'll feel like a fly on the wall clandestinely eavesdropping on the real conversations of typical Chicago twentysomethings. The book provides a great glimpse into the minds of young professionals struggling to cope with real world issues, friendships, and changing lives.
