Summary: Fast paced and fun
Review: Now this a book I loved. It was fast, action packed, enjoyably over the top in places and breathtaking. I love stories that take place in Antarctica. I have a collection of them, and this is one of my favorites!

Summary: I loved this book
Review: I really liked this book and I don't usually read alot of books but this is was an exception to my rule. I couldn't put it down. It's full of action from the start to the end.I recomend this book to anyone. Matthew Reilly has done a great job writing this and I can't wait to read what he writes next.

Summary: Smashing story - hard to put down!
Review: Over the last years I have really taken to fiction that is well researched and that displays in-depth knowledge of the topics it covers. Matthew Reilly displays an incredible amount of knowledge on tactics, armament, Arctic conditions and other elements present on this novel.

What makes it a book that you will NOT put down is the gripping, super fast action ride you embark on from page 1. Unlike Tom Clancy's books, which usually develop the context within the first 50 pages or so, Reilly drops his reader into an action roller coaster from the very first page of his book, developing the context as the story unfolds.

So far I have read Contest and Ice Station, and am halfway through Temple, and can wholehartedly recommend Ice Station to anyone who enjoys fun, good action books.

Summary: SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF IS CRITICAL!
Review: If you can forget the fact that nearly every edge of your seat cliche is used over and over again in this book...it really is quite fun.

Die Hard meets The Abyss meets Orca meets Leviathan meets The X Files! That's how I'd describe this book. And every cliche from every one of these movies is used here...with literally 40 or 50 more thrown in for good measure. BUT, IT'S FUN!

So strap yourselves in...and when the young girl is hanging from the side of a ledge by a rope that's about to break, and then the hero grabs her hand just in time, but then the glove that she's wearing starts to slip out of his grasp, and then he grabs her by the hood of her parka...JUST IN TIME...but the hood is not actually sewn to the jacket...it's held on by buttons that start to pop of one by agonizing one....well...you get the idea.

BUT IT REALLY IS FUN.....suspension of disbelief is critical...but it really is fun.

Summary: Die Hard in Antarctica
Review: Wilkes Station, Antarctica - a research base - is the scene for Reilly's story featuring Lt. Shane ("Scarecrow") Schofield. He commands a marine recon team responding to a distress call. The team discovers that far beneath the station, scientists have come across a mysterious object buried in the ice. The implications of the object are vast and far-reaching, causing other countries who have heard the distress call to send their own special forces teams to investigate.

Suffice it to say that all hell breaks loose when various parties converge on the station in the quest to claim the mysterious item.

To call "Ice Station" an 'action-packed thriller' is to do it a disservice. It is chock-full of gunplay, tactics, astounding rescues and outrageous chase scenes. In fact, the action is so "over the top" - and Schofield portrayed in crazily superhuman terms - that only Reilly's attention to detail and command of his subjects salvage the final work. He covers the details well - and in interesting fashion. For instance:

"The two nitrogen charges on the bridge went off. Supercooled liquid nitrogen blasted out in every direction on C-deck, splattering every SAS commando on the surrounding catwalk. The results were horrifying. Nitrogen charges are like no other grenade - for the simple fact that they do not have to penetrate the skin of their victims to kill them... When a human body is hit ba burst of supercooled liquid nitrogen, that body becomes very cold, very fast... The result: total body hemorrhage."

Looking for a pure, escapist action thriller? Then look no further: "Ice Station" will fit the bill.

Summary: I love this author!
Review: I loved this book. I had read this author's book Temple, loved it, and when I saw Area 7, I bought it, not reading the description and not knowing that the characters had been introduced in this book, Ice Station. So...I bought it to read before I read Area 7, and I LOVED it. It is exciting, fast, hard to put down, and a must read. I look so forward to reading Area 7, and have already preordered Mr. Reilly's book called Contest. What a fun, exciting author, I'm suprised he is not more well known. Read this book, read his others, and enjoy!

Summary: You Can't Put It Down
Review: Once you open this book, your hooked to the last page! Action, killer thrills, bad guys and good Marines plus a mystery it doesn't get any better. After you finish this one you have to get his other books-Temple and Area 57. This author reminds me of Clive Cussler for action-adventure.

Summary: A Fantastic International Debut!!
Review: Matthew Reilly packs a wallop!!
Ice Station is a book that will have the wind knocked out of you. This book is LITERALLY unputdownable! It's so engrossing, it'll ruin all your schedules! Action, action, intrigue, and even more action -- watch out for Reilly.

Summary: Great! Yet Absurd!
Review: The plot clenched me tight, but there were many absurd parts. Such as the "killer" killer whales, The hovercraft chase, and the fact that the SAS took a serious beating from 12 marines. Lets take out the whales, and add maybe an equal number of Navy SEALS fighting the SAS. The SEALS are the only force equal to the SAS... so Reilly, please make the story slightly more plausible.

That aside this book was amazingly entertaining! It was action action action. Definitely a great book to take your mind of the daily cycle of...! Buy it today... but not in hardback.

Summary: This book is one heck of a ride
Review: Ice Station is a GREAT book. I found it. Read it. Loved it. I haven't read a book this good in a loooong time. I won't write much of a review, but when I was reading this book, I kept thinking what a great movie this would make. On the 'hovercraft chase' part of the book, I saw Scarecrow as a mix between Bond and an all out assualt maniac that is lucky, skilled, and acts like he's done this a million times. This is a MUST READ book.
