Rating: Summary: Another Winner From Harlan Coben! Review: One False Move is another highly entertaining, witty, mystery from Harlan Coben that -- as usual -- keeps you guessing right to the very end. His main character, Myron Bolitar, and his other characters, particularly Win, are fun to follow as they move from adventure to adventure from one book to the next. To all those non-sports fans, don't be scared away by the fact that Bolitar is a sports agent. The sports aspects only provide the background to how Bolitar gets involved in his adventures. Coben's next book is due out soon and I can't wait!
Rating: Summary: Loved the pace, witty writing and the characters. Review: One False Move is equally as witty and exciting as all 4 previous MB adventures. Myron grows up a little more in this one, Win and Esperanza become more fully realized as characters. I can't wait until the next MB adventure.
Rating: Summary: Stunning Review: One of the great joys about reading is picking up a novel, getting stuck into it and slowly, but slowly, realising that you've stumbled across something special. When that happens you slow the pace right down, stop scanning lines and start to read every word. This is one of those novels: Sharp and witty dialogue, a story that moves forward, branches outward and resolves itself without ever once becoming contrived and, best of all, a wonderful cast of characters. Hollywood's displaying a recent talent for being able to deliver films that do justice to this kind of novel (LA Confidential, Out of Sight) - it'd be fascinating to see how they'd cope with a book this good.
Rating: Summary: Read a Harlan Coben - any one Review: Some months back, I went to a bookshop in New Delhi & found one copy of each of the Myron Bolitair series. I bought two titles as they seemed interesting. Two days later, having finished both, I went back & bought the entire lot & both the Non- Myron Bolitair books; which meant that I had cleaned out their Harlan Corben stock as they only had one copy each. The bookshop owners then went & re-stocked many more copies of each title, It's difficult to suggest a specific Harlan Coben Book: I found them all tremendously enjoyable. Read any one & you will be hooked. It isn't necessary to read them in any order but I would recommend that start from the first as Myron's life will then unfold as lives should.... The crimes at the heart of each book can be read in any order.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully, wicked humor and a masterpiece of a plot. Review: Sports agent extraordinaire Myron Bolitar is coerced into body-guarding Brenda Slaughter, the star player of the Women's National Basketball Association. Brenda's father has mysteriously disappeared just as her mother did twenty years ago. Convinced the two are linked, Myron goes back to his hometown just a stone's throw from Brenda's home. Soon Myron is immeshed in politics, buried secrets, and, most distressing of all, implications that his own father is somehow involved. Meanwhile, his live-in love Jessica has announced she wants a two coast relationship; Esperanza, his right hand at MB Sports, demands a full partnership or she walks; and Big Cyndi is back as receptionist to scare away the clients. Luckily his best friend Win is as reserved and deadly as ever. With the skill of a concert pianist Coben plays your emotions from grins to grimaces with the finale equal to the 1812 Overture. A cast of extraordinary characters, an emotional roller coaster, a masterpiece of a plot, and wonderfully, wicked humor assures there is not One False Move in Coben's latest.
Rating: Summary: A Terrific, Snappy, Fast and Furious Mystery Thriller Review: Sports agent Myron Bolitar agrees to bodyguard a rising young women's basketball star as professional favor to friend Norman Zuckerman, who by the way, also doesn't have an agent to represent her. Someone has been making disturbing telephone calls and tracking her every movement. Also Brenda's father, who gave Myron his first chance as an athlete, has disappeared, so its more than growing feelings for the charismatic Brenda that has Myron going back to do a little detecting. With the help of his dangerous and psychotic best friend Win, Myron gets involved in an old murder and the mystery of what happened to Brenda's mother over twenty years ago. Brenda has never believed her mother could have abandoned her and vanished without a very good reason. Myron is told to leave that old case alone, but ploughs doggedly ahead, despite threats, subtle and not so subtle, and he soon finds himself sandwiched between two men running for governor, both slinging still more threats. It's pretty hard to go more than a couple of pages without a laugh while reading this snappy, fast and furious mystery. As usual, Coben's characters make the story. They are always unforgettable, always real, sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic, always a delight. Even though there was violence here, I really loved this story.
Rating: Summary: one fast read Review: This book was my first harlan coben, but it will not be the last. This book made me laugh. Don't let the sport's agent twist turn you away, read this book .
Rating: Summary: A false move would be not to read a Coben book Review: This is my second Coben book, and whilst I would say his novel Tell No One is better than this book, One False Move also keeps you interested until the final page. Myron is a sports agent who is quick with the comebacks, can beat just about anyone in hand to hand combat and generally a pretty nice guy. His new client is Brenda Slaughter, the greatest female basketball player in the USA, she's also hot. Myron is quite happy 'babysitting' her but quickly finds out her life is rather complicated. Her mother left her twenty years ago when she was five leaving her with an overprotective father. He has also just gone missing. Brenda asks Myron to find her mother and once Myron starts poking around into the past he discovers Brenda is also in a lot of danger and her mum disappeared for a reason. This book is a little bit unrealistic in the fact that Myron and his tycoon friend Win (I wasn't aware this was the fifth book they've appeared in until I starting reading reviews on this page as it is isn't metnioned anywhere on or in the actual book)seem to have the ability to beat anyone or groups of people in a fight but it is a work of fiction after all. It is an extremely interesting and enjoyable read. Doesn't grip you as fast as Tell No One does (which does not have Myron and Win in it) but once you get into it you can't put it down. Definitely also buy Tell No One as it is a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: This is one of those rare books where I just couldn't pry my fingers off the cover. I was caught in the web from the opening paragraph. Myron gets more interesting with each book, and this book had it all. It was laugh out loud funny in a few spots and had me in tears at least once. Coben has created the most exciting trio in fiction today. I highly recommend this book and all the others in this marvelous series!
Rating: Summary: Myron kinda loses his way in this one; read to find out Review: This is the fifth book in the Myron Bolitar series. While having read only three of the other six to this point, it is not possible to say with certainty that this one is the best of all seven. But "One False Move" has more in-depth personal interactions than the others that I have read, drawing the reader a little closer to Myron than is sometimes the case. For those unfamiliar with Bolitar, he runs MB SportsRep. But his circuitous journey to this point, after his budding basketball career was abruptly ended due to a serious on-court injury, gives Myron a dimension far beyond the typical sports agent. The book is, as usual with Coben, fast-paced with Myron and Win, his quirky, lethal, and blue-blood partner, encountering all manner of sleaze-balls and people with something to hide. Brenda Slaughter, the girl that the new WPBA basketball league is featuring, should be on top of the world. But her father has gone missing after she filed assault charges against him, not to mention the fact that her long-lost mother of twenty years has been on her mind all of that time. Enter Myron; the league needs its investment protected. But the assignment gets more complicated and riskier by the day. Some reviewers find the Coben books humorous. And they are. But the dialogue is more edgy than funny. Of course, the new office worker Cyndi, the spikey ex-pro female wrestler, is captivating and hilarious. There are some good twists in this book. I missed the one at the end - well actually I missed all of them. See if you can get it (them). Meanwhile I'm starting another Myron Bolitar book.
