Summary: Here we go, again...
Review: Serial killer Bekker escapes from his captors and rejoins the world to practice his obsession... capturing (on film) the essence of the human soul as it departs the body at the moment of death. Can he be stopped before any more innocent victims fall silent prey to his malicious science experiment?

Dear reader will enjoy what is sure to become a made-for-television drama aired long after the kids go to sleep at night. Borrowing heavily from the ideas that made American Psycho a unique horror to read, this story just doesn't quite measure up. We've seen this kind of sick-o story time and time again.

Summary: Breaking the Formula
Review: Silent Prey is my least favorite Prey novel thus far. One thing that Sandford does so well is develop the life of Lucas Davenport - his life and the characters in it are almost as interesting as whatever crime he's working on. Silent Pray stripped away that detail, putting Davenport in New York City and only briefly visiting characters we've grown to know in previous novels. Perhaps it was a good move to break the formula but it wasn't entirely successful. But like all of Sandford's Prey novels, it was entertaining and worth the time.

Summary: Super Detective story
Review: The "Prey" series is one of my favorite.

Sandford creates some really great characters in this series and one great detective in Lucas Davenport.

The stories are always gripping and believable. The action is fast paced and nerve racking.

Most importantly, unlike so many other detective novel series by other other authors, the ending doesn't cheat the reader.

Start with the first book in this series and work your way through - you won't be disappointed.

Summary: Dr. Bekker Is Back . . . Great Read!
Review: The best to date in John Sandford's "Prey" series! Lucas Davenport's original nemesis, Dr. Michael Bekker, isback after escaping from custody and is back to his old tricks! Sandford's ability to keep his books in your hands (I took it to work with me one day!) never falters. I was actually disappointed when the book ended; I wanted to read more! I'm a big fan of the "Prey" series anyway, but I'd recommend this one to any mystery fan. A word of warning: if you buy this one, you may as well buy the rest of the series. You'll be back at the bookstore within the week!

Summary: The plot was good, the ending wasn't as exciting
Review: The plot to the book started out great with Bekker breaking out of prison, but as the mystery moved on I really lost focus for the story. The ending with Bekker wasn't as suspenseful or as exciting as the previous prey novels.

Summary: Each one becomes a favorite
Review: This book, my fifth of the series, impressed me. The adaptable Lucas taking on New York. The old nemesis, Bekker, up to no good again. As he attempts to fool the authories in a new way. His over drugging, if you would, continues his fury. A group of vigilante cops in NY add to the thriller, As Lucas has to dig deep to uncover all that is wrong. His womanizing contiues with an old flame and a new interest. The higher up corruption in the book add an interesting line. Overall a good read. I continue to be impressed with the series and am going to seek out a few more of the "Prey" series.

Summary: A Good Thriller, but Why Call it "Silent Prey"?
Review: To me it's getting harder and harder to remember what differentiates one Sandford novel from another. I used to go by the titles, but since they all have "Prey" in them, I depend too much on whatever the other word is. The first novel in which Lucas whipped Bekker was easy to remember, because of Bekker's obsession with eyesight, vision, eyelids, and the sightless gaze of the dead, so I can see why John Sandford called the book "Eyes of Prey."

So far so good, and when I heard that Bekker had escaped from police custody, I was thrilled, and worried of course, for I assumed that he would seek revenge on Lucas. And when I saw the book was called "Silent Prey" I thought perhaps he would change his MO and cut out the tongues of his victims, the way he had previously severed their eyelids. Was I ever surprised to find out that there's really no reason that the book is called "Silent Prey" at all! But, it was nice to have the wonderful and alluring LILLY back in another Lucas book. One of these days, I hope Lucas settles down, he is getting too old to be playing the James Bond part, and even Sandford probably knows it by now LOL.
